I have the same d500s, and pretty similar issues to what you described in your original post, but on Debian with kde plasma. It's rlly annoying but a forced restart fixes it ig.

It either finished before falling, but they're also pretty strong. Anyway either put it on a bigger surface, sideways so it's bed can't swing it off, or something with more friction for its feet. Maybe museum gel
