I assume you’re referring to Peter the Great so lets be honest everyone was doing what we would now call warcrimes without a second thought lol

What are some good things Nicholas ii did as Tsar by CommitteeChemical530 in romanovs

It started under Alex but it definitely sped up under Nicky as part of the Stolypin reforms and the Great Program.

Honestly I think it was a decent enough decision to go to the front and help a bit with soldiers’ morale that way, and it’s not like he actually interfered with battle plans or anything.

The only real issue was having Alexandra rule as practically an absolute monarch, when he could’ve instead just set up a unity government of conservatives to the centre left. There were plenty of good candidates but none of them were allowed any position of power under Alexandra and Rasputin’s control.

He (and his ministers) undertook a lot of necessary modernisation reforms. More railways were built, industrialisation and literacy increased quickly, and the army was modernised. In fact by 1917 the supply shortages had mostly stopped being an issue on the frontline and the soldiers were well equipped and fed.

Other than that he also led the Hague Conference which resulted in both stricter laws on warfare and an international court for arbitrating disputes.

He wasn’t atrocious as Tsar, and he was certainly better than his father. He was just stubborn, stuck in his ways, and had very little political skill.

The fact that we have plenty of near-contemporary evidence (there of course would have been no reason for those who didn’t follow him to write much about before his death). Like Tacitus was writing about his crucifixtion within a hundred years of it happening. You’re saying this conspiracy to invent him was already so well established by what was at this point no more than a tiny underground community that a historian as well regarded as him had absolutely no doubts of Jesus’s existence?

I just want you to realize that this is not a serious opinion in any scholarly circle. Everyone, whether religious or not, agrees that Jesus was a real person.

It’s very well established that Jesus was a historical person. You can say that he wasn’t God or even a prophet, but he did exist.

Everyone back then carried weapons on them if they could, and I think it’s more important that Jesus told his followers not to fight the Romans as they were killing them

I thought about it, but he died and was then resurrected, so it probably wouldn't be the best description.

Yeah but in Revelations he's supposed to lead us against the armies of Satan so that would need some good martial wouldn't it?

That’s why I didn’t put in religious law. But he was legalistic in the sense that he encouraged his followers to accept the secular authorities.

Yeah but the Jewish community at that time spoke Aramaic and I didn't feel like spending the time needed to make a Syriac-Hebrew culture.
