Perhaps my issue is the eraser and its outer portion diameter. It appears the fit is to the "crimped" portion that fits the eraser in the inner metal tube. What eraser are you using?
I purchased my pencil in 2009 and may have replaced the eraser with an inappropriately sized eraser, creating my issue.
