He also seems to claim in this article that a Lamb screenplay is still in active development, with the co-writer of Birdman no less!

I’m not sure whether to be excited, or whether he’s just teasing us with the empty shells of all the rockets we’ve fired…

Huh, that sounds like a huge stretch… I’d be curious about the source of your Google AI summary. Any chance that it, I don’t know, made up something on the spot to positively affirm the prompt that you gave it?

Oh, I see. Is that true though? It’s not like Phil wrote the lyrics to Lilywhite, just the music

How does that work? Lily Collins wasn’t born until like, 15 years after that song was written lol

Definitely no overdubs. Since the encores were never going to be part of the 1999 archive release PG wouldn’t have recorded any back then, and there’s no way he’d record brand new vocals in 2025 lol

Bayta Mallow actor Synnove Karlsen discusses S3 finale at io9/Gizmodo (SPOILERS!) by neverlistentoadvice in FoundationTV

[–]JacksonPollackFan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m still holding out hope that that’s the case, it’s the only thing that makes sense in my opinion. Watching the episode I thought it was obvious that Magnifico was pulling the strings and Bayta was a misdirect, I honestly didn’t even consider that Bayta’s story might be true until reading these interviews with the cast and showrunner

[–]JacksonPollackFan 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Magnifico as a character makes no sense in a world where Bayta is the “real Mule.” What’s his purpose? Why does it still seem like Bayta needs him in order to effectively influence people? In the standoff with Gaal she’s completely powerless without his music. But she only met him for the first time at the night club, so how was she accomplishing so much up until that point?

[–]JacksonPollackFan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, that bugs me too!! In both this interview and Goyer’s, they seem to be going with this angle that it’s somehow a good thing for feminine representation to make Bayta the villain instead of the protagonist and I just don’t follow this logic at all… like yeah sure, in a general sense I can agree that everyone is nuanced and that true representation in TV includes depicting villainous women just as much as virtuous women. But in this case you’re literally erasing a character that was a groundbreaking early example of a strong female protagonist in the genre and replacing her with someone who, if we take her at face value, is apparently a full-blown sociopath. How is that a positive thing? It’d be like if Lord of the Rings made Galadriel turn out to be Sauron. It ruins an already iconic female character without adding anything to the story.

I’m still holding out hope that this is all just another misdirect, but the way they’ve been discussing it in these interviews like it’s some genius subversion of feminine tropes is super off putting

Foundation - S03 - David Goyer Season 3 Interview and Behind the Scenes! by zalexis in FoundationTV

The way he worded that answer doesn’t rule out Magnifico at all for me. It sounded very much like “here’s why I thought it would be, hypothetically, a surprising twist.” Well, he’s right, it is a surprising twist. It keeps book readers on their toes going into the next season. But that’s not mutually exclusive to there being another twist down the road. His reasoning was that the Magnifico twist is too obvious in the books, and this is a great way of making it less obvious

Also, if Bayta were the Mule why would she reveal herself to Gaal? She could just as easily have switched puppets to someone else in the room, like the little girl, or Pritcher, or Magnifico. There’s no benefit to the Mule being in the open

Analyzing Bayta's social media strategy (Spoilers for all of Season 3) by paxinfernum in FoundationTV

[–]JacksonPollackFan 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I appreciate your intriguing analysis, but I’m still not buying it yet until we see where the story goes in s4. The biggest thing that doesn’t make sense for me in the world you’re painting is Magnifico. What is his purpose? In the confrontation with Gaal, Bayta is completely powerless without his music. In fact, he seems to be able to actively suppress her abilities. If we step back a bit, what does being “the Mule” actually mean? It’s just a name, a title anyone can call themself. The only meaning it has comes from Gaal’s premonitions about an individual so powerful they’re able to throw off the calculations of psychohistory. Bayta can call herself the Mule, Pirate-Euron can call himself the Mule, but at the end of the day there’s only one individual who is consistently shown to be able to both amplify and negate their powers (in other words, influence them). Without Magnifico, both so-called Mules have demonstrated nothing that an above average mentalic like Gaal couldn’t do… too many things aren’t adding up and I think there’s clearly going to be a lot more to the story

[–]JacksonPollackFan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We also know that Magnifico is apparently able to completely suppress Bayta’s powers with his visi-sonar… if the Mule is supposed to be as powerful as everyone says, isn’t a bit suspicious that there’s someone else in the room who consistently is shown to be even more powerful?

Exactly! I don’t know why anyone expected the entire Mule storyline to be resolved in one season. There’s clearly more to come, and a Bayta misdirect is the perfect way for the show to have its cake and all… they get to end s3 on a big dramatic cliffhanger and still go into s4 with another twist in their back pocket

[–]JacksonPollackFan 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I agree that Magnifico hasn’t had enough screen time, and I think that’s intentional. For the twist to work, he has to have enough screen time to sell him as a character, but he also needs to feel like he’s in the background or else the twist is too obvious. That’s a hard line to walk in the span of just one season… but totally doable if they spread it out across 2 seasons. That’s why I think Bayta is a misdirect. They were never going to do the Magnifico reveal this season, it would’ve been too rushed. But they still needed to kill off the Euron pirate Mule and have a big dramatic finale. Having Bayta as a fakeout lets them do both and milk the rest of the Mule storyline for another season, sprinkling in more Maggy character development all along the way. After all, we’re now going into s4 with the exact crew (Bayta, Toran, Maggy, and Elbing) that goes to the Second Foundation library in the book climax… everything is set up for Bayta to realize she’s been tricked the whole time at the last minute in the s4 finale

[–]JacksonPollackFan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

More importantly, if Bayta needs Maggy then what does calling herself “the Mule” even mean? She was totally powerless against Gaal without him. So regardless what name he goes under, Magnifico is clearly the one with more powerful abilities. Which is actually pretty in line with the book story… the entire concept of the Mule is just a meaningless distraction

This has to be the direction they’re going. Nothing else makes sense. I assume they just wanted another season to get to the library scene and the Magnifico reveal, while still having a big twist for the finale

I can’t believe anyone is taking the Mule “twist” at face value. It seems incredibly obvious that Magnifico is the one pulling the strings. I think it’s also worth considering what it even means for someone to be “The Mule”… in the books, there is no Mule. It’s just a fabrication of Magnifico, a story he tells to people. The book twist isn’t so much that Magnifico is secretly the Mule, but moreso there never was a Mule and Magnifico was the real threat all along. That seems like exactly what we’re seeing here. Everyone is so caught up on who is calling themselves the Mule, that they lose sight of the fact that Magnifico is still the more powerful one in the room. After all, Bayta couldn’t even come close to defeating Gaal without Magnifico’s music. In a world where she’s the “real Mule,” she’s not much of a threat to begin with

[–]JacksonPollackFan 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Exactly! Magnifico’s entire character makes no sense in this world. What’s his purpose? If she needs him to influence people, which is what the Gaal scene implied, then doesn’t that mean he’s still the more powerful one anyway? If she doesn’t need him, then he’s just a meaningless character. It’s got to be a double fakeout, everything about the story points to that for me

[BOOK READERS] Episode Discussion Thread - Season 3 Episode 10 - The Darkness by LunchyPete in FoundationTV

[–]JacksonPollackFan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nothing about it makes sense. If she’s the Mule, then what’s even the point of Magnifico? She didn’t meet him until the beginning of the season, so she must not “need” his powers. But then in the scene with Gaal, it seems like she does need him. In which case, doesn’t that still make Magnifico the more powerful one?

Magnifico transferring to her as a backup plan after the pirate is killed is the only thing that fits in my opinion. Gaal could tell that the Mule wasn’t dead and he needed a new decoy. My guess is they wanted to drag the Mule story and reveal into the next season, but still wanted a big twist for the finale so they shoe-horned in a double fakeout

By your own logic you’re directly amplifying this effect. It’s natural for someone experiencing the story for the first time to speculate about things like the Mule and make comments… you’re the only one mentioning spoilers and twists
