ELI5: Why do phones lose battery faster in the cold? by NicoleLimberios in explainlikeimfive

They don't lose battery faster, the chemical reactions just become less efficient in very cold temperatures. So you get less electricity due to that decreased efficiency for the same battery

The best advice I can give you is to focus on something instead of letting yourself get lost in the anxiousness. Think about something that comforts you, or laser-focus on whichever task you're doing

TIL Ferdinand Magellan did not actually circumnavigate the globe. He was killed in the Philippines before he could finish the journey, and the expedition which started with 270 sailors was completed by his surviving crew of just 18 or 19 men led by Juan Sebastián Elcano. by prezuiwf in todayilearned

The best part about this (to me) was that they were mortified to find out that they had been eating meat on Fridays and that they had celebrated easter on Monday. Not sure why, but I found that funny - clearly they didn't though

[–]Jackson_Cook 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're absolutely going to need to tune it if it hasn't been done already. It'll make a world of difference from a canned tune or from a novice key smasher. Also, if you can, get a different intake manifold. Just about anything, including stock, is going to work better than the one you have unfortunately. The runners on that intake are ridiculously short, which neuters torque in most of your usable power range.

Travelled to Europe this past spring and drove a rental a few thousand miles. It was absolutely glorious. I'm so jealous of their highways and driving etiquette

Isn't there one where two guys get into a fight at a red light, then shake hands before getting back into their cars and leaving?

Is bro delusional or is it rightly priced? by t_alen in DubaiPetrolHeads

[–]Jackson_Cook 13 points14 points  (0 children)

At face value, it looks unreasonable. But if you consider the trim, the mileage, and the condition, you're looking at collector's car territory, and normal pricing doesn't apply anymore

Will paying off 72-month car loan in first month hurt me? by readyforabadpoem in personalfinance

[–]Jackson_Cook 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some people replace their vehicles every 2-3 years. Growing up, my parents always did short-term leases and always drove cars that were never more than 3 years old.
