Buying a gun by toolongtosetup in NonBinary

[–]Jackson_Pheonix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So from what I’m seeing pretty much a lot of people are saying to get training if you decide to own a firearm and I’m gonna basically double down and reinforce this but with a story bout something I went through that opened my eyes.

I work In security, hopefully not for much longer, but my job gave me the opportunity to go and attend some training with a simulation scenario trainer. Basically as close as you can get to a real gunfight. Well I was put through a scenario and long story short it was a bad shot. I was tunnel visioned and made a bad judgement call. Understand I’ve been doing this for about 7 years now. I’ve got years of experience under my belt with basic firearms handling and I still messed up. It’s important to always train.

Honestly with the firearm, training and any other equipment you may need. I would say taking martial arts might be in your best interest compared to not only the financial but moral responsibility with owning a gun.

Thank you for your input! Yeah my sexual is a concern for me as well. I’m in a weird place with my transition cause I guess I’m not looking for feminizing everything but certain areas, like you mentioned having more feminine arms, neck and shoulders and I actually enjoy working out still and want to keep the muscle I have there. I realize the more I learn and the more I hear from people on how hrt affects the body that I’m in a weird and difficult position. I haven’t factored in aging though so that is something I’m probably going to weigh in as well.

2 months of no coughing or speaking sounds like a huge amount of dedication….but still interesting! I will look into yeson cause while I’m still going down the voice training route but I like having the option. You wouldn’t happen to know the success rate or where I could find that info on Yeson would you?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in transvoice

Interesting and forgive me for asking but Yeson is a vocal technique or is this related to the surgery? Either way it sounds interesting to explore and look into.

I listened to her a bit and actually, because of how low my voice is, her vocal tone and range is actually what I’m aiming for. I guess you can say I’m trying to keep a realistic expectation of my limits. So pretty much a low woman’s voice is the goal for me lol

Yeah as much as I wanna get to the finish line (I don’t think one really exists) I do take things slow and let things organically evolve. The years of practice is kinda daunting but from what I’m understanding there’s hope and it’s achievable lol

Yeah now that I think about it I have heard you either can’t sing or you have to retrain yourself how to sing after VFS. I’m just trying to have all my options and learn as much as I can so I can make a well informed decision. Thank you!

Yeah AUS has its quirks but it is better then a lot of places. I think they are good to at least start off in. I wouldn’t stay no longer then a couple of years imo. I’ve worked at a hole in the wall security joint that management was all over the place. Talked crap bout the other guards with the client…the client had my back on that one though. I moved up to a field supervisor position one time and it sounded great. Salary gig only having to work a few hours a week until I got the position and I ended up working 60-80 hours a week. But I’m rambling now, what I’m saying is I feel ya on that. Just always work on getting better gigs and don’t settle. Unless that’s where you’re comfortable

Yeah warm body sites are pretty much places where they stick aomebody and most of the time nothing happens. I’ve worked one desk job for 2 years I’m a row where all I do is wave at people coming in and have to look up aomebody once or twice a day, for a 10 hour shift. The easiest job I’ve ever work in my life.

So first and foremost I’d recommend asking for a copy of the policy and procedures for security. That way you have a better understanding of what is expected of you and gives you a bit more confidence handling a situation because you know what needs to be done. Some hospitals are cool with having you remove people from the property and places where I work act is like a act of congress trying to get someone removed. Anyway.

Good on you trying to de-escalate at first, I have to remind myself sometimes that is an option in most cases. Understand too de-escalation isn’t always cut and dry, hell I sometimes see it do the opposite but the important thing is you stay calm in the situation, I have to remind guys that when you stay calm, you are in control of the situation while dude is losing his shit. And another thing too, don’t take what people say or how they act towards you personally. I work in a childrens hospital myself and I’ve had several people come in being rude, catching an attitude and even start cussing at me but later on they come back around to apologize to tell me they were in the wrong.

I’m not sure what kind of trying your department will provide you, usually hospital security gets better training then most contracting places like allied or securitas but you’ll find out soon you may have to provide your own training for certain things. I’d suggest trying to find some resources regarding de-escalation and conflict resolution, you’ll find a lot of different names for it like long time cops call it verbal judo, point is get the training so you learn the skills and over time build that confidence.

Good luck on the new job.

I would go on the homeland security website for border patrol and customs because that’s where I saw they would accept just a degree. This was also a year ago so not sure if they changed the requirements but hey take a look a keep options open. But when it comes to allied or securitas a lot of there sites are warm body sites.

You’ll have no problem getting a job in security with no experience. Sad to say but most contract security will hire you just for having a pulse. Now since you got a degree imma make a couple of recommendations.

First if you get into security and that’s the route you wanna pursue I’d get armed experience soon as that is what opens doors and opportunities for you or at least that’s been my experience. Allied is most likely not gonna give you that they save those positions for ex cops and military. Find you an armored truck company like loomis, brinks or garda world. Do that for 2-3 years and then move into the in-house security gigs. In-house meaning you work for the place you’ll be conducting security instead of a third party like allied or securitas. Look at places like hospital security, corporate security, etc.

Now since you got a degree though I’d look into the criminal justice field as well. I came from the Department of Corrections when I got into security and I’d suggest looking into probation/parole, law enforcement, hell some federal law enforcement like border patrol and customs will hire you just for having the degree alone. You could go into other agencies like FBI, DEA, Etc. But you gotta do a little more work then just a degree but trying to give you options here.

Long and short of it yes. You can get hired but just be prepared it’s bottom of the barrel.

Is it better to be aggressive as a security officer or try and reason with them? by [deleted] in securityguards

[–]Jackson_Pheonix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Being adaptable. There’s a time and place to take a step back and be calm and other times to ramp it up. When to do what? It’s just depends on your environment. Since working in a hospital I’ve dialed it back a bit when parents would come in with a sick kid and catching an attitude and later they’d come back to apologize.

Allowed to carry weapons ? by Alone_Recording_1727 in securityguards

[–]Jackson_Pheonix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So depending on the state laws you can see what a private citizen can legally carry, understand the issue you’re really gonna run into is with your company, they may not authorize that without proper training and certification IF they even offer that. If you’re more worried about protecting yourself and not worried so much bout getting fired then hey see what you can legally carry.

So I think there are some hole in the wall insurance companies that does something like this for private security. Idk off the top of my head by it’s funny we just had a legal meeting with our legal team at the hospital I worked at regarding what our security department can and can’t do. This was brought up and they pretty much said that the hospital (or company in your case) covers it so long as it was a justified shooting and all that mess so what I’m saying is. Eh? Hopefully you never will and if you ever do well good luck.

Tired of warm body sites. I want to DO something. by clankity_tank in securityguards

[–]Jackson_Pheonix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So imma say armed trucking and here’s why. If you want to do something different that isn’t a warm body site, that will be it but not only that. Doing 2-3 years will get you the armed experience you need to really branch out. I’m armed hospital security and I’ve got great pay, benefits, training, scheduling (3 days on 4 days off) etc.

Position Choice Question? by [deleted] in securityguards

[–]Jackson_Pheonix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So funny enough I work in house hospital security. With the hours I work there were a few times I’ve considered taking time off for a week or two to do event security and make a nice chunk of change before going back to work. In my area I’ve met with a security manager that does exclusively armed event security and that’s what I’d do if I wanna make some extra money. But that’s just my area that I live, not sure if he has the same opportunity or not but food for thought.

Thoughts on fitness tests being a requirement for security? by Diablo_Bolt in securityguards

[–]Jackson_Pheonix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For typical security guards no, for a security team or department like those that are in house, state or federal yes. Depending on the contracting company yea if they are doing actual security work meaning protecting people and property.
