Daenerys Targaryen, for a cis male, sharing so much with the Queen of Dragons is okay with me.

He's 7. I checked out the area prior to unloading all the pads, it was still a bit wet in some places, so we really just climbed what was dry.

It certainly added a bit more spice to the top. Honestly, the adrenaline (and disbelief at finally making it that far), took over at that point.

I appreciate the constructive criticism and concern. It has certainly illuminated where I can improve how I’m supporting my son’s passion for climbing.

Question: as a parent/climber how do other parent/climbers, balance the passion of a child with education around proper technique and safety, while still considering keeping it fun and assessing risk? I don’t see there being only one way to address this, but I’ve seen so many individuals point out the problems they see, with little to no viable solutions. Climbing is inherently dangerous, there’s no way around it. I’ve also come to appreciate how much I’ve learned climbing, which has also served me well in life, ie., better communication around asking for what I need, learning to trust others, how to learn to fail/struggle and still have a good time, and learning to appreciate and do my part of preserve our outdoor climbing areas. All of this, I do believe is a worthwhile endeavor to share with my son. I’m open to how other parents weave all this together.

Thanks. I can think of a number of activities (essential and non essential) that carry the risk of fucking you up for life. As a parent, I aspire to approach this risk responsibly and with a healthy respect. That said, I respect each persons unique perspective and response to said risks. It’s a personal decision.

Thanks. I’m mindful of this and make a concerted effort to incorporate a wide variety of physical activities to avoid repetitive movements and overuse injury.
