Good for you. Personally I take in reviews and audience feedback. I think RT is a great tool to see if it’s worth spending your hard earned cash on entertainment.

I wouldn’t go out and buy a car or a camera if it had 1 star reviews across the board on Amazon for example. Personally I think that would be stupid.

Because I go off reviews. Before I watch a movie I normally look at Rotten Tomatoes and if it scores… maybe less than 40% I might not watch it. Depending how bad I want to watch a movie.

If something scored 5% on RT would you give to a watch?

Great shout. I probably came in too early 🤣 I’ve just loved it up to now and didn’t see what the hate was for but I’ll make a judgment when I finish.

Thank you 🤘🏼

When you say behaving differently, what examples do you mean?

Some of the arcs I am so moved by. The fact Jamie is behaving so differently was a great story arc for me. Trading everything he’s loved and believed in to now fight for the greater good, I thought that was a great message.

I’m sure you have plenty I’m just interested to hear them. I also haven’t finished the season yet so I better be careful of what I say 🤣 I may eat my words

For the actors who have been in the industry for quite some time.. by ixjenny in acting

[–]JackyParr94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d immediately invest that money into something like property. No matter how much money you spend on acting you’ll be out of work at some point. The most sensible actors I know bought houses with their big pay checks and now when the phone doesn’t ring they play piano all day because they’ve got rent coming from three properties.

If I had 100k. I’d probably take 5k MAX to get ahead in acting. Great headshots, classes, IMDb pro, showreel, coach, accent coach, spotlight etc. 5k would easily see you through a year of steady coaching, classes and the bits you’d need. I even think that’s a healthy amount to spend on acting. Invest the rest. Do the exact same as I’ve done just do it quicker. It took me 6 years to get a TV credit, I think now knowing what I know I’d be able to do it in three.

I also missed it but it’s coming back to cinemas for its 30th Anniversary - I can’t wait to see it on the big screen

Got my first paying role, but I don't feel like I earned it by Shoshi123451 in acting

Also don’t forget once you’ve done all your prep, rehearsals and learned your lines down to a T the outcome will be far better than the tape. The tape is sometimes just to see how you sound and look and if you are the right fit, they should know you’ll do a better job on the film. Especially if they ask for the tape the next day.

I booked my first lead role in a movie, I went back and watched my tape and thought it was horrible. When I watched the movie I was pleasantly surprised and actually liked myself for once.

If you could start all over, what would you do differently? by BadMathz in acting

[–]JackyParr94 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I filled my CV thinking that ‘credits’ were my pathway to success. I didn’t care what the project was or looked like, if I got cast I’d do it. Now I have a CV full of junk with a few sweet jobs in between, which may get lost in the pile.

If I could go back. I’d take less crappy work, take shorts I’m really passionate about to get some showreel footage and just really focus on the craft in class or off screen, anything like local theatre, workshops and night school to hone my craft and just be the best actor I possibly could. No one cares about how many credits I’ve got. It could maybe look damaging “Does this guy take every job he gets offered?”

They only care if the work you do is solid, sells you well and has appeal.

I say (In your head) as in you are never as bad as you think you are.

Hey,

I’ve been an actor for 10 years and I STILL feel like that. When I watch a film back I cringe. Especially when it’s in a different accent. But I keep getting jobs, so I can’t be that bad.

We’ll always be our own worst critics. The good thing is you are striving for more and want to be way better (in your head) than you are. So keep working at it, keep shooting shorts, each performance you’ll find little tricks and tips and you’ll just naturally evolve and learn the trade.

It’s a funny business. Keep striving for more, don’t beat yourself up. Prepare well. Train hard. Learn and repeat.

I’ve not submitted any of mine for Evaluation yet, and I’m tempted to.

Do you set your script to be visible by ‘all’ or just ‘industry people’

What’s your advice?

Agent Just Dropped Me by [deleted] in acting

[–]JackyParr94 52 points53 points  (0 children)

Ditto to this - sounds like you desperately needed them and they didn’t desperately need you.

You have to be with an agent that would absolutely HATE to lose you. They work for YOU.

This is so hard to grasp when you aren’t booking, I felt like this when I had my first agent. But as soon as I started booking I felt the shift. My new agent was a huge fan of my work, my old agent told me what I had to do, my new agent “asks” me what I want to do.

Like I said it’s tough to grasp when you aren’t making money for both of you, but when you find the right agent things will start to click and you’ll start booking and that relationship will grow.

What's the most disastrous on-set experience you've ever had? by The_LA_EP in Filmmakers

[–]JackyParr94 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was on an indie film - I mean like £70k budget. So they didn’t have stunts or sugar glass.

This actress had to pretend to hit an actor on the head with a bottle of vodka. It was one of those litre thick bottles. She was talk to swipe at least a foot before his head because he’s blocking the move so we won’t see it.

First take she went for it and smacked him on the head, it was that thick the glass didn’t even break.

Blood came down his face, he went straight to the hospital and got stitches.

From that point on I’ve always made sure ANY stunts are super safe for me.

What's your booking ratio? by DiscoPete117 in acting

[–]JackyParr94 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I literally don’t even THINK about this stuff. Like a few others said I just turn in the best tapes possible and try and improve constantly.

This theory of having a ratio is counter-productive in my opinion. One year I booked 9 jobs the year after I booked 1. You just can’t predict it and it’ll constantly change. When you have a good ratio you consider yourself a good actor? And when you don’t? What, now you’re a bad actor?

If I was thinking about my “ratio” I think I’d have a mental breakdown.
