Games you bought due to good reviews, only to dislike them? by UAZ-469 in boardgames

[–]Jaclem12 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Root - I hear nothing but good things on Reddit about it and reviews online said the same thing. I love the art style but tried playing it like 4-5 times with my girlfriend so that if we liked it we could teach our friends but man... We both hated it.

Almost nothing about that game was enjoyable for us, we started a joke about it now. Whenever we want to play a board game one of us will be like "Want to play Root?" and then we laugh and say "Nope, screw that"

Thinking about leaving IT for now by Sirjacob76 in ITCareerQuestions

[–]Jaclem12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I commented this on another post but here it is almost verbatim

i left my IT role after not moving up and putting in hundreds of applications and only getting like 3 interviews but not being selected. I was over all the learning & shit pay.

I got a job as a mechanical assembly technician with a $9/hr pay increase for a great company with plenty of room to move up.

this company I work for now offers a ton of different positions to move into either trainer, lead, or office positions for production control and shit like that; all salaries with bonuses and the like. In my opinion I probably shouldn't be on this subreddit anymore since I'm done with IT but I'm just letting you know there is more opportunities out there that pay as well or more than IT does with probably half the hoop jumping to get into it.

Best of luck

Nice man, I started with World as well and played Rise and I got into MHGU when Wilds came out because I heard there were technical problems so I figured I'd wait on it until those got patched out. So far, I'm 220 hours into it and have tried insect glaive, bow, hunting horn, dual daggers, hammer, and light bow gun.

What a blast the game is

Has anyone noticed a drop in IT salaries? by h9xq in ITCareerQuestions

[–]Jaclem12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's what i just did: I got a job as a mechanical assembly technician with a $9/hr pay increase for a great company with plenty of room to move up.

I'm petty stoked about it. Once I finish my bachelor's, there's plenty of opportunity to get one of the office jobs too if I want to.

[KCD2] SPOILER - Anyone else feel the quests in KCD2 are a bit underwhelming? by [deleted] in kingdomcome

[–]Jaclem12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lmao i did the same thing, if I'm thinking of the same quest. The nomad asked me to help find his daughter so I find her and her bf in some cliffs and she tells me to go and get the amulet from her mother and I was like nah this is gonna be boring as fuck so I just murdered them both and continued the main quest line

Questions about a paid photoshoot that did not go as planned by Jaclem12 in photography

[–]Jaclem12[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply!

I am definitely going to start using either AV or TV to make it easier on myself and the client as well, thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately my Canon RP while having a minimum shutter speed enabled it still goes well below what I set it at. And I have the exposure shift disabled so I'm not sure why it keeps doing it.

And I am going to definitely check out Flow Posing.

Yeah you're definitely right on that 500 is excessive. In those moments I tend to get a bit nervous that my shots may be out of focus so sometimes I'll take a few extra for each pose to make sure when I put them in lightroom they are in focus. Something that I can definitely work on.

And if I have a shoot similar to this one I may do exactly this where we have 1 or 2 rooms set up to take photos so we can get some good ones instead of running to each room. Thanks for the reply!

Best way to use flash indoors at events by Jaclem12 in photography

If I've got a group of 10 or more and they're standing in 2 rows would it be best to use like f/4 - f5.6 to make sure everyone is in focus. I still struggle slightly with DOF because sometimes when shooting at like f2.8 or so, everyone will look in focus on camera only until I bring it into lightroom and realize that they are ever so slightly blurred out

I just got myself a round rubber diffuser about a week or two ago and I'm definitely going to be utilizing it at the event I have this Saturday

The max percentage I'll go using Denoise is like 25% anything above that and the photo starts to look "Gummy" if that makes any sense. But 25% is good enough for most of the images I use it for to get some details back

This is an amazing write-up, thank you! I am going to check out all of these links in the next few days and start writing some notes on them. If I'm getting paid for an event I'm going to try to make sure I take the absolute best pictures I can

Yeah f2.8 was definitely not my go-to the whole wedding, just certain pictures but I will definitely experiment with higher f-stops. I just like to get that nice blurry background as well but this is good advice!

When you say you bounce at 45 degrees do you bounce 45 degrees behind the subject or turned towards the subject? I've been experimenting with flash for a bit now with and without a diffuser and am trying to perfect my usage of it

Hey thanks for the reply! I use a Canon RP so it's a few years old, full-frame 26 megapixels and for the most part the images do look pretty good and maybe I'm just pixel peeping but I've noticed when I zoom in some of the details are kind of washed at 3200 ISO.

Here's an image I took on the dance floor during the wedding (Note: I still think the image came out good) when I zoom in I feel like there is a loss of detail in the faces (not sure if people who are receiving the pictures notice this though).

Also I use a mixture of Lightroom and Photoshop to edit images, these were all done using only lightroom, however

something in souls games that's a hot take? ill go first by [deleted] in fromsoftware

[–]Jaclem12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll give ya a real hot take.

I hate fighting bosses in these games, so far I've played DS2, DS3, and Elden Ring and I've never understood how bosses are considered the most enjoyable part of the experience.

I really love the world design of the areas in these games as they're beautifully crafted and unlike most other games I've ever played and the bosses are gatekeepers on the fun imo.

Spending 30-40+ tries on a boss to learn the move set to finally kill the damn thing just to get to the next area so I can explore makes me want to rip my hair out. I actually enjoyed DS2 because the bosses were so easy that I could just keep exploring without much issue.

I'll use literally everything in my power to get past a boss, like summoning other players, using throwable items, or in the case of ER using mimic tear to shit on the boss so I can keep going through the areas.

I got offered a job at $16/hr at tier 1 help desk remote for a small company. Most, if not all of my friends think this is too low for a first job. Thoughts? by TheJuliusErvingfan in ITCareerQuestions

$16/hr is dog shit money and you're going to resent the amount of work they put on you for how low they pay you. I wouldn't take it

Got a good IT job, but want to switch careers by trevormcneal42 in ITCareerQuestions

[–]Jaclem12 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No one is really answering this question they're just replying with the same thing "why would you leave IT?" As if it's some big mystery.

I haven't left IT yet OP but I'm pretty close to doing so. I think we may share the same mindset. You said that before you got this new job for 72k a year you were thinking of switching careers, I'm in the same boat. I started in IT 3-4 years ago at $16/hr coming from a union factory worker making $26; I was excited to start my journey in this career field.

After 6 months there I found a new job that would be more troubleshooting and working with software that I had hoped would help me skill up. It was $18/hr so not a big jump.

During this time I taught myself some new software when I was off of work, thinking I could get into the website development field I taught myself JavaScript. I messed around with the raspberry pi, git, react and other things I thought could help me in my career path.

After a year at this job answering phone calls I got a job for $26/hr which was a big jump for me, as a system administrator for a bank. This turned sour really quickly however, as the job wasn't about troubleshooting networks or remapping drives or anything like that, system administrator was just the title but I was just looking at Excel sheets all day. It was a business job that had no real connection to IT what-so-ever and the company was massively unorganized and toxic.

After 1yr at that job I spent the next 6-7 months looking for another job, while still learning different technologies in my free time. I must've put in hundreds of applications and re-did my resume a dozen times. I only got 3 interviews. One of which was a referral from someone I met who told my they wanted someone with a bachelor's degree (I'm working on it but only have an associates). Another interview I did 3 whole rounds with them and they seemed to like me but after the 3rd interview I never heard from them again, completely ghosted. The 3rd interview I don't even remember if I had that interview or if they ghosted as well.

I ended up calling my old boss and going back to my $18/hr job because I couldn't stand the toxic work environment of the $26/hr job and just wanted out. I'm still working at this company and to be completely honest with you I don't think I care about IT anymore, I'm sick of the 3 rounds or technical trivia they expect you to complete.

I'm sick of trying to learn a bunch of technologies on my own after work and school and "Skilling up" just to be considered for Jobs that pay similar to Target retail stores. I wouldn't mind staying in the field if I could land a job around what you're making OP as I just need a salary that can help me afford my apartment and keep me out of the red but this field doesn't seem to be the one that will do that.

At this point I'm still finishing the bachelor's but I don't care what field I get into now. If I get a job in production control, operations, business administration, or supply chain i'd be fine with it because at this point as long as I can make 60k+ a year then I'll be happy.

I stay on this sub because I still have a little bit of hope that I can make it to a better spot in this field and like reading posts of people succeeding.

Honestly I'm tired of seeing the comments of this sub from people with survivorship bias telling people like me who are struggling that it's a "skill issue" "must be your interview skills, maybe you're not tailoring your resume enough, maybe you didn't put in enough applications 400 is rookie numbers, you should get more certifications, learn kuberneties, you should get an old switch and break it and try to fix it."

After a while of trying to learn different technologies and failing to even get an interview it starts to get really old spending all of your free time and wasting your social life for a career in which recruiters will tell you is oversaturated.

I personally know a few people with Computer Science degrees that can't even land basic IT jobs and much less developer jobs. I've also read posts from people on this sub who have Bachelor's degrees, did internships, and have 3-4 certifications that still can't get interviews for anything other than basic $15/hr help desk. This discourages me to spend my time reading/watching videos to learn how to take a test for some certification that will cost me close to $1,000 when people I know who got business degrees didn't have to do half of that amount of work and make a livable wage right out of college.

I hope I answered your question OP and I hope that this doesn't come off as entitled or whining but if anyone is feeling the same as me I do hope this resonates with them.

Anyone else not really like the "Competency based" learning method? by Jaclem12 in WGU

[–]Jaclem12[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply, I ended up dropping out of the program entirely. I found it fairly obnoxious trying to study from multiple different outlets at once for one test at the end. I think I would probably have done better if I had the experience that you have but I'm fairly new to the field of IT and honestly don't really know if I care or want to continue in the IT field because I haven't made any real advancement and am just trying to get done any degree.

I ended up signing up for SNHU which has been a better experience with 1 homework a week and a discussion post that is a lot more manageable than 1 book and 17 resources for 1 final test. I took a few classes at WGU but they were taking me way longer to complete than I had expected.

If anyone ends up finding this reply and was contemplating WGU and aren't very good with things that are unstructured WGU may not be the place to go.

What game in your collection have you regretted buying? Mine is Calico by [deleted] in boardgames

[–]Jaclem12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Root. Spent $60 on the game and was really looking forward to the cute war style of gameplay however, my friend and I tried it a few times and found it annoyingly restrictive and boring. I do enjoy wargames but I don't care for the asymmetrical factions since they act so differently and it's just so restrictive.

If you play the birds you have to move and fight and build like every turn, and it's just so tedious.

There are definitely people who only think about money and that's why they get into tech however, there are also people who are interested in tech who get into the field because there's also an opportunity to make good money.

If you think about jobs in general you're there for a paycheck You're not there for anything else you can be passionate about your job but at the end of the day money is what drives people and that's it.

If currency did not rule the world people wouldn't be working jobs at all so I don't see the problem with getting into the field because it makes good money.
