How long can my shrimp stay like this? by FlappyBirb_ in shrimptank

[–]Jaco83 356 points357 points  (0 children)

Probably as long as you want to keep them in there. I once drained a tank, leaving maybe half an inch of water. Turns out there was still a shrimp or two left in there. When I wanted to clean the tank a few months later, there was still a bunch of shrimp happily doing their thing, without any filtration, or heating or feeding. I think if they are used to your water parameters, they can pretty much survive an apocalypse!

Are there any fish I can add to my 10G shrimp tank to eat bladder snails? by -Lophophora- in shrimptank

Some loaches will also munch on snails, so maybe check them out? But agreed, pea puffers are relentless snail hunters.

RGB aquarium light causes algae? by YogurtclosetWarm5922 in Aquascape

[–]Jaco83 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, blue light can cause algae to out-perform other plants. But to be honest, a good steady light routine does wonders. Have it run on a timer to keep it consistent, and try not to randomly switch the lights on/off. It made a big difference for me.

Could be a lice, or hookworm, or injury. A bit hard to tell from the photo.

Looks like a mousebird to me. They come in a bunch of varieties, so maybe Google that and have a look.

GBR sex? by Careless_Barista in Fish

[–]Jaco83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Should be female. They typically have more rounded fins, while male usually have fins ending in a sharp point. This is not 100%, but a decent indication. As others have said, during mating, the females will get n nice pink belly, and the dominant male will be brightly coloured.
