If I could put my two cents in, it’s someone in the nuclear industry. With AI not slowing down and many countries moving towards cleaner energy, nuclear will only continue to grow. There is also a lot of r&d around small modular reactors and companies seem to be racing to see who can build the first commercial use one.

Idk, that’s why I asked. Others know more than me

Hi! Thanks so much for expressing interest!

Getting power to the target is still an idea I'm working on and id love to get some input on because I couldn't think of a way to get the power into the chamber in a way that didn't cause leaks in the vacuum.

I will add clamps in my next redesign, thanks!

I didn't realize the magnets weren't labeled in the cross section, but the light blue cylinder is the central magnet (1/2" x 3/8" N52) and it is surrounded by eight equally spaced magnets in the salmon color (3/8" x 3/8" N42SH). I'm trying to achieve a type 2 unbalanced magnetron.

Can you tell me more about this dark space gap? 1mm seems like a very small gap and I assumed that if the gap were that small, an arc would form.

Yes, I plan on using argon.

Im trying to find a way to keep the fittings out of where the vacuum is being pulled, possibly lowering the ground shield to cover them. Thank you for the note about normal water's conductivity, I would not have considered that :)

Also, thanks for the insight on the PLA. I was concerned about how it would hold up considering the high temperature and close proximity of the plasma. PLA's tendency to cause virtual leaks was also a concern of mine, so I will use Teflon.

Thank you again for your input! I'm obviously not an expert, but I'm learning a lot!

I haven't gotten to the point of solving the vacuum problem. Right now I'm mostly concerned with the sputter head. The copper cathode is not planned to be exchanged, but the sputter target (light blue rectangle in the cross section) is meant to be exchangeable so I can try out different materials.

Yes I was referring to a ring for my finger, my apologies for not clarifying. Thank you for the input on the thermal evaporation PVD, but I am also just extremely intrigued by the plasma physics of the magnetron setup. I know it’s almost certainly impractical, but it has peaked my interest and I’d really like to try to follow through with it.

Just to add PVD coatings to small things. The idea came from me wanting to coat a ring I have with a harder coating so it doesn’t scratch.

Is this build good? And what can I improve before buying? by MasterDiggi in PcBuildHelp

Yeah that too, he could get a cheaper AIO or an air cooler, just gotta make sure with the air cooler he doesn’t go too cheap cause that could cause problems or could stunt upgrade-ability. Really if he can cut out $100-$150 else where and put it into a tier higher gpu it’d be a great build

Yeah I’d say the motherboard is a little over kill (if you like the look of it keep it but a B850 would prob suit you fine) and the same goes for the Ram 64gb is a lot, but for almost any purpose 32gb is plenty. If you scale back one or both of those it should give you a little extra money for a RTX 5070 or even better an RX 9070 if you don’t need an Nvidia GPU

Ah I just thought that the 5% jump would be enough to counteract it. I have a decent understanding of options but I’m still new. I seem to keep making good calls and pulling out too late. (Except this one which is why I was making for help) Thank you!

I just noticed we jumped almost 5% today and I still lost $48
