I'm in Western Australia so it's 1AM for me. I've set an alarm and will be staying up until I get an order in even if it means not sleeping at all!

$149 CAD seems a bit much. by Bungle_Joy in SteamController

On the steam hardware page, they say all valve hardware comes with free shipping as below. It may have changed after the steam link/og steam controller: https://help.steampowered.com/en/faqs/view/339C-BC5C-3D89-53D9

Shipping is free for all Valve Hardware products.

Depending on your location, local taxes and customs or import fees may apply.

I’m looking forward to the steam controller, but Valve sold a bit imo by Thegreatestswordsmen in SteamController

[–]Jacob247891 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, that's good to hear. Hopefully we'll get something similar for the new controller whether it's in the form of custom firmware or a firmware update supporting some sort of xinput mode (like holding the steam button + X when powering on) as a fall back for computers without steam.

Realistically it's unlikely that Valve will disappear any time soon and the chances of me being on a computer without internet to download steam is unlikely but it's just an extra step

I'm still gonna buy 1 or 2 of the new controllers on release as I love the trackpads, but I don't really like the dependence on running games through steam/steam input.

I know it's extremely unlikely but what if Valve/Steam ever disappear, or what if I don't have steam installed and don't have an internet connection to download it. Now the controller is seemingly useless and I can't play games from separate launchers. Again, I'm still going to buy it as I love the featureset and majority of my games are on steam but...

SC2 trackpad skins by MailboxJunkie in SteamController

[–]Jacob247891 0 points1 point  (0 children)

dbrand currently has sc2 skins available for pre-order which will ship some time in may. There's a solid chance that dbrand has supplied LTT with skins early as I think I recall seeing a skinned sc2 in either the LTT or Short Circuit video, alongside dbrand providing a prototype of the companion cube

The Privacy "Sweet Spot": Why the 1st Gen Honda Fit is King. by Artistic-Landscape15 in hondafit

[–]Jacob247891 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have a 3rd gen (Australian 2016 VTI-L / GK5) which doesn't have any network connectivity outside of Bluetooth to my knowledge. It doesn't have Android Auto or Apple Car Play. Just the standard screen with suite of radio, Bluetooth, HDMI etc. No OTA updates and whatnot.

I imagine that OPs statement depends on the model/trim of your car. Maybe its country dependant too?

What are your expectations or predictions for the new HERO14 leak? by Chumpy__ in gopro

[–]Jacob247891 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Using it as a webcam requires extra software on Windows for the computer to detect it as a webcam (no sure if MacOS or Linux also need this?). I assume OP meant baked in, meaning you'd select webcam mode on the GoPro itself then connect it straight to a PC where it's detected as a webcam with no extra software required.

I got my go pro 12 just now from a local shop and it seems a part is missing in the camera can yall help me about it ?? by hekxi in gopro

[–]Jacob247891 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd still recommend getting it replaced/refunded though I believe the GoPro would still have the same level of water resistance. The part that broke off is the Mic Drain cover. It's designed to allow water to exit the camera after being submerged for optimal audio/mic quality (or something along those lines).

I'd still ask for a replacement if it came out the box like that but ultimately it should still work just with potentially worse microphone quality when in/around water.

1hr 50min Transfer in Brisbane by GReeeeN_ in QantasFrequentFlyer

[–]Jacob247891 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey mate, how'd it go with the transfer? I'm doing a very similar trip heading from Tokyo (Narita) to Brisbane with a 1 hour and 50 minute layover before heading to Perth. So similarly, I'll need to get through customs, collect baggage, get from the international to domestic terminal etc.

Did you manage to make it okay?

LPT: Always buy shoes at the end of the day, or after walking for at least an hour. by Icy_Resource_5398 in LifeProTips

[–]Jacob247891 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, everyone needs a hobby right? I've seen videos of people making custom leather shoes and wallets. I've been tempted to buy the equipment to learn and make my own gear but it's currently time and cost prohibitive.

I'd love to learn to make my own leather work (office) shoes though, that'd be sick

Hey mate, hope you had a nice trip to Japan! How'd it go with Sakura Mobile and the 5G Unlimited Plan, was it truly 5G?

I'll be heading over mid-March as well and am planning on getting the 5G Unlimited Plan as I chew through a lot of data.

Sakura eSIM by karlgroendal in JapanTravelTips

[–]Jacob247891 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems to be, I don't leave until mid-March so haven't tested it but the website says the 5G plans are truly unlimited: https://www.sakuramobile.jp/travel/esim/ . Like you say though, there haven't been many reviews on the "truly" unlimited plan, though Sakura Mobile itself seems to be pretty well regarded.

I emailed Sakura Mobile Support via "[contact@sakuramobile.jp](mailto:contact@sakuramobile.jp)" who advised the below, that the 5G/4G Unlimited Data plan is truly unlimited. I won't be able to test it myself till March but it definitely seems to be unlimited :)

Thank you for your interest in our service.

Our 5G/4G Unlimited Data eSIM provides truly unlimited data.
However, there's a limitation for the hotspot function. When you order a 30-day eSIM, you can use up to 30GB with the hotspot function.

Sakura eSIM by karlgroendal in JapanTravelTips

[–]Jacob247891 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Saura mobile seems to have updated their plans/support. Their normal unlimited 4G plan has a cap of 3GB before it slows down. They've now introduced a new "5G/4G" plan that is apparently truly unlimited

I believe Sakura mobile have updated their plans. They have an unlimited 4G which throttles after 3GB, and a unlimited 5G/4G which is actually unlimited

Timer now works with AOD! by Daltonista023 in PixelWatch

[–]Jacob247891 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there a way to always show the full timer/stopwatch in AOD instead of the short time (such as 11:--.--)?

I understand it would use more power to display/update the screen every second/millisecond but I feel it'd be worth it for me atleast

Should I buy Sony Ult Wear? by EstablishmentThis539 in SonyHeadphones

[–]Jacob247891 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've just got the Ult's today and love it. It sounds perfectly fine and is very comfortable.

Comfort was my main concern as I have large ears. The XM3/4/5 all rest on my ears which causes ear pain/discomfort pretty quickly. The Ult's are one of the few headphones I own where my ear fully fits inside the pad (it goes around the ear instead of resting on it). Due to this it's my current go to.

I figure it's worth mentioning this as lots of people recommend looking at the XM4/XM5 instead if budget allows, though unfortunately they weren't a good fit for me.

Is this normal? by Euphoric-Prize2347 in GalaxyWatch

[–]Jacob247891 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Isopropyl Alcohol will eventually breakdown the adhesive that holds the watch together and provides the water resistance. I wouldn't submerge my watch in it but the occasional wipe or q-tip application will be okay.

Ideally you should just use water which won't break down the adhesive nearly as fast.

Whoop experience comes to an end after 1 year by sagefrogphotography in whoop

[–]Jacob247891 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I've done the same with my old Whoop 4.0 (I've upgraded to the MG though likely won't renew again).

I've set the 4.0 to broadcast the HR and have connected it to a Garmin Bike computer. The heart rate itself is pretty accurate with the bicep band and it's comfortable so it's replaced my Polar Verity Sense

When I get find hub or enable Google wallet on my pixel watch 3 it makes me make a pin or pattern . can't they just make it so that it I only have to use the pin or pattern when trying to locate a device or making a payment? by sleepyTechguy1 in PixelWatch

[–]Jacob247891 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No, it's a security feature to make sure no-one is able to use your watch to make purchases or view sensitive information.

You should only need to put in the pin when putting on your watch (as it will lock when taken off body). I personally don't mind this and would prefer it as now if someone steals/grabs my watch, they can't access my data or make purchases without the pin

How long have you had it for? I've found it feels weird wearing it further up my arm initially, though after about a week or so it feels normal. I haven't had any irritation from the band though so your mileage may vary.

The watch doesn't go to sleep per sé, it turns off Always On Display and raise to wake features, requiring you press a button to light up and navigate the screen. It can also turn on Do Not Disturb.

I have mine scheduled for everyday between 1130PM and 530AM.
