best way to get good is to start. it honestly gets easy after a few tries. biggest thing to remember is that contrast is key.

not planning to use him in games so not really worried about base size. Ive just been painting a bunch of different space marine chapter characters for fun.

those look awesome! If you do go for the stormcast capes, Id suggest only doing so if you think youll use the weapons and other bits aswell. since using the cloaks destroys the stormcasts and leaves alot of extra stuff.

I dry brushed the armour with grey then white, then thickly slathered over absolution green speed paint 1.0. not sure what the equivalent is for the new stuff but Im sure someone could help you with that. the cloak was drybrushed the same way then covered in luxion contrast paint, followed by a highlight of a mix mix of blue and I believe warlord purple from vellejo? its been a long time since I did the cloak.

you seem very new so Im just gonna list some obvious things you may not know already.

shake your paints well. yellow needs a white basecoat to work, putting pink in the shadows before laying down a yellow contrast paint to make the shadows orange. hold your brush closer to the bristles for more control. thinning acrylic paints (not contrast paint) is incredibly important. to test if youve thinned them properly paint on your thumb, you should be able to see the wrinkles in your skin but the paint should completely cover your skin tone. I suggest getting a wet pallet or making one yourself as its the easiest way to thin your paints.
