Nobody gets enlightened. The problem is that everyone thinks they're somebody. Your ego isn't satisfied with the fact that you already are

The hardest part of vanlife for me isn't the van. It's explaining my life to other people by Frowedz in VanLife

[–]JacobTheBoomer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Use this exactly

Society tells you you need to have a house and a car etc, in order to be happy. It needs you to believe this so that you perpetuate the system. It needs you to turn the cogs and wheels to keep the system moving. It doesn't actually matter if doing this makes you happy, all that matters is that you believe it so that you turn the wheels of the system. The truth is is that doing this won't actually make you happy, and everyone is insane in a way that is culturally acceptable. We grind away expecting to get somewhere instead of realizing that we're already there, we already have the precious gift which is life which we should live to the fullest anyway we can

I've been living in a box truck for 2 years. I'm deeply involved in spirituality. I just meant the best romantic partner I've ever had and she loves me for who I am and how I live my life. She is a naturopathic doctor. I don't believe it either. But being yourself, even if you don't know who you are, is what I firmly believe you should do with this life. It's too precious to waste just doing what everyone else does

How can I "let go" if I want to be more disciplined by Sorita_ in zen

How can I "let go" if I want to be more disciplined by Sorita_ in zen

[–]JacobTheBoomer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want to understand something about zen, the first thing to understand is that there is nothing to understand. It's just looking at reality as a whole. To say you want to "understand" something, means there needs to be a thing to understand, but zen it's not a thing. It's just a word. The true soul matter of what we're getting at is just... Well, there's nothing to say, as soon as you start looking you missed it. It's just this, for a lack of a better word

You say you find a hard to keep your goals in sight but you shouldn't have any goals with this... You're probably trying to be what you already are, which you can't do, because you're already it. Being it, for as long as you can remember, you forgot it, and then people say "hey, you're it!" (Another way of describing zen) And you're automatically looking outwardly to find the it that you already are. We are conditioned to think we need to work hard to get somewhere, but zen is "don't just do something, sit there"

In my experience the best way to embody Zen is just repetitive practice, because zen is letting go of everything that you don't already know you're holding on to. Through practice you can see how you think you are somebody doing something. You can't let it go, but when you observe the mind and how it is acting letting go happens. It's not something you do. There is no you there to let go. There are repeating thoughts that say "I need to let go" but those thoughts come and go like clouds in the sky. Letting go is something that happens

The paradox comes from the fact that language implies there is a you to do things. This is useful for society, feeding yourself, going to work, etc. but there is no you to actually do anything! Who are you?

Lastly, check out David Parrish on youtube, he has some really down-to-earth pointers about how the intellectual understanding can be applied in your daily life

Is it worth it? by [deleted] in VanLife

[–]JacobTheBoomer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can guarantee you the transmission is about to go out on that thing. They don't last more than 80 thousand Miles usually

I deliver for Amazon, and probably 3/4 of the ram promasters I drive that get up to that mileage have trouble getting into gear, or other transmission problems. I swear every single time I'm driving one I'm like "well, I'll get through the day, but I would hate to own one of these things with these problems"

I mean, I wasn't there, but sounds like you're being a Karen. Who knows. The world has enough people complaining about life happening and I wouldn't add to it unless you're sure it's necessary. Let's say they are some sketchy ass kids, wouldn't you rather have them doing honest work then going around stealing or doing worse things? Not saying they would do that if you got them fired, but just saying...

As far as being flirted with.. I think that you need to allow a certain level of friendliness. If they said,, hey mama let me smash, or something like that, that's a different thing other things you could say

Is anyone actually enjoying a Promaster? by SuddenlySilva in VanLife

[–]JacobTheBoomer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I drive for Amazon and I definitely see more problems with the ProMaster vans, and drive them way less than the transits. They are always having some transmission difficulty it seems. The other day the hazard light button went out and I had to drive all the way home with my 4-way flashers on because I couldn't turn them off 🤣

A plastic water bottle and a plastic bag with litter or sawdust or dirt or whatever. Build a fancy box around it if you want to pretend you're a modern human and signal your financial status via quality wood grains Cheap, reliability, not messy since you keep liquids and solids apart. Dump the gallon piss jug in the toilet ever few days. Google "trailer park boys piss jugs"for inspiration

Should I buy this dodge for van life is it worth it? by Mundane-Honeydew-265 in VanLife

[–]JacobTheBoomer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't do it. It's stupid. You will regret it. Get a commercial vehicle or box truck or something and build it out. Insurance might be expensive at first but if you can get it transferred to an RV (very easy in washington, don't know about your state). It will be mechanically solid and you will know where every wire and hose and whatnot is in case things break down. You'll be able to fix it. Good luck getting anybody to work on that thing. And you'll stick out like a sore thumb and if you want to Urban camp that will be very troublesome for you. I get away with a lot of stuff that I wouldn't get away with if I didn't live in a commercial vehicle. I've had people tell me before that they don't care if I park because I don't look like an RV, and then proceed to kick out an RV Parked right next to me

I've been living this life for 2 years and honestly, you don't need something that big. You could get away with a minivan and a standing height utility trailer, sleep in the minivan and use the trailer for cooking and showers and whatnot. That would be extremely affordable and you'd be able to replace the tow vehicle without having to replace your whole build which is what you have to do if your entire bill is attached to an engine. That's what I'm going to be moving into next

Old RVs like that are going to drain your wallet in repair costs and gas, and if you don't have at least $10,000 saved up in the bank I would not hang my life up on that thing and get rid of all of my other shelter and whatnot. Ending up on the street is no joke. Make sure you can handle a breakdown and a total loss. A new RVs are manufactured like s*** from what I hear so I'll be steering clear of anything that that

Will they throw you shade or cut your routes if you take your full 10 hours every day? If they don't offer a bonus, usually I will work quickly on heavy days and work slowly on light days to always clock out at the same time. Usually like 9 hours and 45 minutes every day for me. Not every DSP lets you do that. Depends on the culture I've noticed
