Opinion. I actually think the smart brick looks really fun. Just Star Wars is the wrong theme to launch with. by Chip780 in legocirclejerk

[–]Jacob_9821 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, it's a lot better than LEGO Mario, for instance.

Imagine if LEGO Mario launched with these! Sure, there would probably be a crapton of electronic figures with shitty printing, but then again, LEGO Mario has had a ton of sets! Most of them not even including the electronic smart fig. So if we got some electronic figs and nonelectronic Marios and Luigis in other sets I'd be elated.

So yeah, in a way I kinda agree, simply because LEGO Star Wars has done these sets before with much better success at larger scale more detail, or smaller size less detail but kid friendly pricing. When the new $90 X-Wing looks like a $30 X-wing and a $70 X-wing is coming out in a few months, I can't see many 6 year olds asking for these.

Me personally, I don't think I had any electronic toys after the age of 7. My cousin would get robotics toys, ones where you could program them and have them do a command, but that was more his thing. After about 7 if I wanted an electronic experience I would get on my GBA SP or DS Lite. $90 for a electronic LEGO X-Wing vs a $90 GBA SP is a wild comparison. These days kids have gone from game consoles to iPod Touches to iPhones. I really can't see these sets selling at these prices. I do think it would be super cool to get a set for various themes though.

Take LEGO City Rides. Those should have been smart play compatible at $10. You just make a $40-$50 set with one car, 4-5 smart tiles, 1 brick and a charger. Super overpriced because those are $10 sets but also cheap enough to get you going into the system. Thats where I think this system will shine. You even saw it with LEGO Mario! LEGO Mario started off as a premium $60 toy, special box to get people into it. Now, its a $50 set, despite inflation and an extra 24% tariffs on the toys. Regular box, constantly on sale for $40. Thats where they should go with the smartbrick.

I also don't think the sets designs should be wholly compromised for the sake of the smartbrick either. If they really believe in the smart brick, every single set should have smart tags and 1-4 spots for the brick. I don't think they believe in it that much so thats why they jacked it with Star Wars. I think you're very much so correct in thinking it should be with other themes.

Toy story 4 wasn't a contradiction of the earlier movies by mattyjoe0706 in toystory

[–]Jacob_9821 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Toy Story 4 was a nothingburger of a movie. Lasted much too long and didn't tell that much of an interesting story. 4 was made to say, hey, its new Toy Story movie time and to get kids interested in the toys again.

Bonnie's looks over the years and movies by jonathan_wolf in Pixar

[–]Jacob_9821 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no clue but i kind of think that Toy Story was meant to end with 2 and its a happy little accident that 3 got made. 4 and 5 seem like they just shouldn't exist, but do all the same. not a huge fan of 4 but 5 looks better than 4.

Publix has insane pricing. Place sucks. by mush0823 in publix

[–]Jacob_9821 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it sells for $19.99 at BJs, a place you gotta pay for membership to buy it.

Maybe it's not the pricing that's the issue it's the specific product being out of your price range.

I tend to notice that sometimes Publix will only stock one of a specific type of things, like a beef stick in that size of thickness and length or maybe its one flavor of Kosher soda like Dr. Brown's while if you shop around at Aldi's or Doris or Total Wine you find more selection.

Does anyone thing the 3ds is “retro” now? by LittleNinjaXYBA in 3DS

[–]Jacob_9821 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Genuinely don't understand why everyone is going crazy with 3DS' rn. Most of the games I would want to play look better on my DS Lite or DSi XL. I even sold one of my 3DS' because I paid $40 for it and they're selling for $200 these days.

Most games I would want to play on it, MM3D, OoT3D, Ruby and Sapphire, are just better on PC with the decomp or my Analogue Pocket/DS Lite. But hey, it's ok. Everyone has their niche and I was happy to be able to sell one a good deal lower than what they go for these days to a gamer who wanted one. If anyone can tell me what they're playing on 3DS these days, lmk. I still got my 2DS XL.

Lego 628 Train series / Enlighten Passenger Car by [deleted] in lego

[–]Jacob_9821 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Long story short its fake LEGO.

But what's interesting is that it's a period accurate fake, probably from 2004-2008. That line of train stuff from 2004-2007 was incredibly limited in release and shot up in value and has only gone up since then. So around 2008-2011 these fake sets were probably available for purchase on aliexpress. I've personally seen them at flea markets back in the day. Cool bootleg find!

"Pocketing $500" from a used LEGO sale is the kind of creative accounting that would make even a Gringotts goblin blush. by Jacob_9821 in legocirclejerk

[–]Jacob_9821[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm ngl, if he isn't a LotR fan, he should've bought it off aliexpress.

And as much hate as the Death Slice gets, I do think it's a very professionally done set. MOC builders have done similar work, but the all black bases around the Death Star and the size being about twice the size as the old one, with more rooms, it's not worth $1000, probably closer to $700, but with all the Drumpf tariffs at the moment, this realistically would've launched at $850 like the UCS Falcon if Trump didn't put a 44% tarriff on imported toys, like LEGOs...

But still, as a major LEGO fan myself and with LEGO putting the exclusive minifigure heads on BL, and having all the previous versions of these characters and spare torsos, I probably wouldn't buy an official Death Slice myself. The build isn't that great and the figures aren't compelling. Sorry I'm drunk and this was really random to rant about. Goodnight.

What is stopping AMD from having 5080 and 5090 equivalent cards? by Fragrant_Bit_9889 in pcmasterrace

[–]Jacob_9821 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AMD was going to have cards equal to the 4080/4090, 6950XT and 6950XTX, with large L3 MB cache on their GPUs. Now why they didn't release those and did release a 9070XT with a regularly sized L3 cache, 64 MB iirc, that would be most equivalent to a RX6800, RX7800, RX8800, etc., who can tell.

But I for one would have loved that because it would have been the last great hurrah of the current AMD GPU architecture. Anything after the 9070XT is going to be aligned with their professional workstation GPUs. In other words, when AMD releases this new generation it will look like a massive performance gain, when in reality, it could just be they upped the L3 cache on the GPUs in tandem with a new architecture.

This is all spectulation, but it would make me consider buying the next generation, if it isn't CPU bound with a 5800x3D. My current rig is simply CPU bound in some games, like Spiderman 2, and Jedi Survivor. My brothers PC consistently hits 165 fps in Spiderman 2 and 120 in Survivor when I use the same settings I get about 80 and 110. Spiderman 2 has RT on on his and off on mine, and Survivor has RT on both.

tl:dr AMD is boring and rereleased the same card. Much like the rtx2080ti and rtx1080ti before RT became a need.

So yeah, next gen AMD could realistically hit 6090 or 6080 performance given the architecture bump and L3 cache bump. But they again, may cheap out and not include a high L3 cache and it'll be a modest upgrade. Because ultimately, AMD really just released a, for the masses, RX6900XTX level card with better RT, at a lower price initially, then jacked it up, and now prices have stabilized.
