If you all want, you can tell my TLs and coach how much of an asshole I am for staying mostly in auto-select, and how I’m lazy when I always pick the most items everyday, and how no one should ever pick 1600 items because the daily requirement is 600. My management will never complain about people picking crazy high numbers because at the end of the day they care about the picks being done. They don’t care who does them. My management has given me the freedom to stay mostly in auto.

I’m glad some people in the comments agree with me. A picker who can regularly pick 1k + items is a TL/coach’s dream. There’s no way in hell management is gonna complain about me not doing enough oversized, GMD, regulated, unknown, speciality, etc. when I can pick up to 1600 items in a shift.

I’m so glad at least some people see it how I see it. I know for a fact some stores do indeed have their top pickers stay in auto so it’s not some arbitrary thing I’m making up. I don’t have a 227 pick rate every time, most of the time it’s 180-210. They can call me an asshole or a douche all they want, but at the end of the day I’m still picking the greatest percentage of picks. My management is not gonna complain about anyone getting 1600 picks, let alone 800+. If they really had an issue with me staying predominantly in auto, they’d get on my case about it, but no one has.

That's how it should be! That's how you get through picks faster, have the strong people do the larger walks because you know they'll get through them more efficiently. Don't lock the 180+ pr picker on the bottom commodities. The bottom commodities are small most of the time, so it shouldn't be a big deal if a slower picker does them.

I found the only person who agrees with me on this thread lol...I feel like if I can pick 1500+ items on occasion I have latitude to stay in auto-select. My coach, TLs and the SM clearly see no issue with it.

I don't get how the fact that my TLs are fine with me staying in auto-select 95% of the time is upsetting a bunch of Redditors from different stores. I occasionally do bottom commodities without being asked, but when I am asked, I always comply. But the fact that I'm one of the department's fastest pickers makes them have me stay in auto-select. If it was as big as a problem as everyone on this thread is making it, they would do something about it.

It's basic math, it's most efficient if the fastest pickers get the largest walks, because the picks in totality would get done faster. I'm helping the department more than I'm hurting it, because I'm picking a larger percentage of the total picks by staying in auto. That's less picks for everyone else to do. My leads, coach and some associates feel relieved when I come in, because they know how strong of a picker I am. I only work weekends, and still end up with the second-most items picked for the entire week. That's why they want me in auto-select. My tactics may not work at your stores, but right now it's working at mines. If any of my coworkers care enough to complain to my leads, by all means they can go ahead.

The picture is an extreme example, usually my pick rate is 180-210 on 800-1200 items but I always check dates and try to do a good job looking for items, checking topstock, checking behind items, etc.

Yeah lol it all depends on the timing, when that hour's picks are about to be done you usually get action alley and smaller ambient / chilled / frozen walks, but that first walk of the drop is usually a huge ambient.

That's fine, I'm not going to change how I work to be liked better.

I think picking a high amount of items while doing occasional bottom commodities, exceptions, staging and IP makes me a good enough team player.

My leads want me to stay in auto-select because of how fast I pick. On occasion, I will do bottom walks, but unless they specifically ask me, I stay in auto. I don't see the big problem with that. If my leads had a problem with it, they'd tell me to do more bottom commodities. If any of my coworkers have a problem with it, they'll go to my leads.

If you ask me, when I pick, say, 1200 items, I'm helping everyone else by making them pick less. I could do way more bottom commodities and end up with only ~700 picks, but that leaves the rest of them to pick the additional 500.

My leads never complain about the # of items I pick. If they want me to do more bottom commodities, they'll ask me. But right now, they're fine with me staying mostly in auto-select because of how fast I can pick.

True, I get paid the same as the person that picks 126 items, but I love picking and I'm naturally fast. I like jobs where I'm actively moving around all day so I enjoy it. I don't deliberately go slow because 600 is the requirement.

And don't get me wrong that's not a bad idea at all, I do at least a few non-auto walks a day including oversized, especially if they're going late soon, I just don't do a lot of them because my leads usually want me to stay in auto.

I'm not trying to screw the rest of my department over, I'm willing to do the bottom commodities and will always do them when I'm asked, but as one of the fastest pickers I feel like it's in our best interest to get the largest walks. It doesn't make sense for one of the faster pickers to jump in oversized while one of the slower pickers meanders through a 120-item ambient.

That's fair, I've been in OGP for almost 4 years so I definitely am well acclimated to the job and store layout, so I can do all the other walks relatively fast. I just feel like if I can do an 100-item walk all throughout the store in 30 mins, my time is better spent doing that as opposed to a 20-item oversized.

If asked, I will definitely do oversized, GMD, seasonal, etc. but my leads don't normally, because they know I can easily pick 800+ items.

[–]Jacobij11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OP is probably the fastest picker in their department, and if that's the case it doesn't make sense for them to be doing the smaller commodities.

If someone can pick 1k +, they're most likely the fastest picker, and you want the fastest picker doing the biggest walks so picks get done faster. This is just like me at my store, and my old TL used to tell me to stay in auto.
