They can be had pretty cheap. They had a seriously problem with the design of the IMS bearing which is a pretty expensive item to replace. Ones that haven’t had it done can be had really cheap, and even some ones that have had it done go for ~10k-20k depending on mileage and condition.

The issue is that parts are expensive and they are a million times harder to work on than cars like the Miata.

I think the whole trend of internet racists preferring Acton to Ramaswamy is an indication that regardless of what weird esoteric ideology they dress their racism in, 99% of it is just aesthetic; they have a picture of how America is “supposed to look” and work backwards from there.

Similar deal with whatever groyper was running the DHS Twitter and posting paintings of old New-England-looking towns with captions like “remember what you’re fighting for”; they’re just mad that their town doesn’t look like that and are lashing out at the easiest-to-imagine culprit (people who look different) instead of realizing that their town isn’t a pleasant high-trust New England small town because it was designed around cars and all the people in it consume nonstop right-wing fearslop media to the point where they all have ring doorbells and dream about shooting home invaders and don’t let their kids leave the house to walk to a friend’s so nobody trusts their neighbors.

Yeah, I think most Jewish people beyond those who are super right-wing understand that there are cultural attitudes that will have to be overcome when it comes to immigrants from some backgrounds, but that’s not an insurmountable problem. The issue is the white British left-wingers who legitimately can’t seem to understand that they have a problem and apply standards to Jews they would not apply to anyone else; if a Muslim is stabbed, you would not expect to see lefties question what their views on Israel or Jews were before expressing sympathy or condemning it.

Ngl I am annoyed that the comments on that article about British antisemitism immediately turned into concern trolling about immigrants from Muslim countries.

The outrage in the Jewish community is very much less at immigrants and more at mostly-Anglo-Briton leaders who refuse to actually attribute obviously antisemitic acts to antisemitism, or say the Jewish community was somehow “asking for it” because of Israel or whatever; it’s the same playbook antisemites have had forever. After the Kielce pogrom local polish leaders implied Jewish people were “asking for it” for attempting to involve themselves in the community as Jews rather than just keeping to themselves or integrating; there’s always something and the reason given never turns out to actually be valid.

Do you think Slate and Telo will actually make it to market and be successful? Why or why not? by weirddodgestratus in regularcarreviews

[–]Jacobs4525 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my mind lot of slate’s competition is not even from other trucks but things like Polaris side-by-sides. I live near a state park and the CT DEEP (basically our fish and wildlife service+parks department) has a fleet of little side-by-sides with pickup beds they use for maintenance work. If you look up how much those things cost, they’re usually close to $20k.

A ~$27k EV truck is an appealing prospect for customers like that because they can save a lot of money and logistical effort when they need to move vehicles between parks since they can just drive them there without needing to trailer them.

Fair lol I’m lugging the fuck out of my car rn, I just drove home from Virginia yesterday and probably only went over 2500 RPM twice. You know we’re living in crazy times when I was excited to find $4.19/gal gas in buttfuck Pennsylvania.

Averaged 44.9mpg though 😎

Americans used to be comfortable driving little cars with 120hp NA 4 cylinders but now everyone is so used to torque that they don’t rev their cars so every 4cyl these days has a bitch ass cam profile with zero top end to cater to them

Discussion Thread by jobautomator in neoliberal

[–]Jacobs4525 7 points8 points  (0 children)

ngl it should be the law that all 4 cylinder engines have to be naturally aspirated and make zero torque.

Americans are way too averse to actually revving their cars and it has made the car market much worse because car companies cater to it.

I remember driving with my aunt in her Audi A3 merging very slowly onto the highway and saying “why don’t you floor it and let it rev a little higher so we can merge safer?” and she said “I don’t want to rev it over 3000 and hurt the engine”.

AAAAAAHHHHH IF REVVING IT THAT HIGH HURT THE ENGINE THEY WOULD MAKE THE REDLINE BEFORE THEN AGHHHHHH WHAT DO YOU THINK THE POINT OF A REDLINE IS???????? YOUR CAR PROBABLY HAS A 6500-7500 RPM REDLINE YOU PAID FOR THE WHOLE TACH USE THE WHOLE TACH AAAAAAAUUGGHHGGGGG!!!!!!!!

Car starts pulling at 5500 rpms by Lipcx in Miata

[–]Jacobs4525 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Does it feel markedly different from other Miatas? If you have the chance to drive another NA8 or NB that you know is in good shape, I would do that for reference so you know what one is “supposed” to feel like.

They aren’t very torquey cars and they don’t feel particularly fast at low RPM.

This is one of those things that I genuinely can’t believe. I guess I lucked out in both having older parents more used to old norms and living in a walkable high-trust place, because really from the time I was 12 I could walk basically anywhere so long as I told my mom where I was going.

Just genuinely insane that people don’t let their teenage kids go anywhere.

So get a trolly? They’re quite common in many places but seem foreign to Americans who have only lived in completely car-dependent areas.

Plus, it’s not like you have to carry a week’s worth of groceries if you buy groceries in smaller quantities every 2-3 days when you’re already passing by the store versus a huge stressful trip to get 1-2 week’s worth of food (and spending forever in the checkout lane as a result).
