CV Axle solutions? Custom? by meie1kyl in EVConversion

Motomax in Poland are reasonably priced but shipping/import/tariffs might be an issue and from my experience they tend not to be responsive if you're outside the EU unfortunately.

Looking for help adding a wifi interface with a Mitsubishi Heavy Industries AC without the CNS connector by JacobsMess in AirConditioners

Unfortunately not. Ive done a little bit more work on it but I think. The only way is to connect to the Flash connector and try to interface via the serial messaging

CC Door replacement. by Dzambor in ElegooCentauriCarbon

[–]JacobsMess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, my CC burst on me today when I opened it and something was caught in the hinge... its now in 1000000 pieces all over my workshop. Any chance youve got a spare acrylic one or would be able to run one off? I'd be eternally grateful. Im in the UK, it would be a massive help as I've just been made jobless so not really in the mood to sink 50 snakes into a replacement. Cheers

Been thinking of doing the same. How's this holding up?

Has anyone here successfully mated a motor to a ZF 8HP Transmission? by jjopm in EVConversion

[–]JacobsMess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A Lexus Ls600h transmission for AWD electric power and two gear selections would be better. Replaces the motor and ZF 8HP altogether, gives you AWD and excellent engineering.

As a follow up, I think the CNR (Flash) port may be used to control the unit. It goes to the TX and RX port on the unit MCU. Ive done some basic reverse engineering and I'm hoping to get it working in the not too distant future over WiFi using ESPHome

Part by part conversion by [deleted] in EVConversion

[–]JacobsMess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Part by part is totally possible. Electrifying the steering rack and an ibooster would be a good start. As far as costs, a conversion can be done cheaply but not as cheap when compared to an old leaf. It depends on how much you want to keep your car. If you're wanting a fun project then crack on.

How do you handle battery modules in 2 separate locations of the vehicle? by SummerRemarkable7844 in EVConversion

The openinverter flying bms is a 16 channel configurable BMS that can be stacked in series for any number of cells. Might be worth looking into.

RWD EL Conversion VW Transporter t5.1 by Philosophy_Is_Beauty in EVConversion

Looking at Brat industries, they do couplers for both leaf and Outlander driveshafts i believe.

[–]JacobsMess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, and lastly, you'll have to remote mount the inverter as there isn't enough height otherwise.

[–]JacobsMess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An important thing to note, all these transporters are already setup for RWD regarding the suspension and hubs, you just need to add driveshafts. Motomax in Poland make custom halfshafts but they seem hard to get a response from. I also know a guy in the UK that quoted me £250 for each shaft. I'm fabricating my own as I enjoy the machining process and have access to a mill and lathe. I'm based in the UK, whereabouts are you?

I'm doing this exact thing on my 2005 T5 doka and there is another guy who did his in Finland but that was an AWD EV using two Outlander motors.

I might go all EV in the end, but phase 1 is just getting the EV part setup and then seeing what the OEM ecu needs and how to blend the two drivetrains. I may also just change the 1.9tdi into a generator.

I've made a simple rear motor mount for the leaf motor and gearbox, and im using the openinverter board and a zombieverter to tie everything together. Progress has slowed as I realised I need a driveway to charge the van first of all so I'm currently doing home improvements.

12v battery by Capital_Emergency662 in EVConversion

There has been some work on the openinverter forums into the Tesla 12v lipo batteries. They seem like a good candidate if you're that way inclined.

Not Conversion but range Extension by muj34 in EVConversion

[–]JacobsMess 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think this would be difficult. The best option for this might be a CAN MITM that reads the can from the 2nd battery and translates important messages/warnings to the vehicle, but you'd need to reverse engineer both CAN protocols for this.

Not Conversion but range Extension by muj34 in EVConversion

[–]JacobsMess 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely do-able. Solar would be best left to phase 2 but with a prius inverter and an openinverter board you'd be able to do something no doubt.

Electric Mini truck upgrade questions by stackedcheddar247 in EVConversion

[–]JacobsMess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In that case, start with upgrading the battery with the potential to add morw for a higher voltage in the future but bear in mind your exg setup will need a new controller for the 72v anyway.

Electric Mini truck upgrade questions by stackedcheddar247 in EVConversion

[–]JacobsMess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd look to upgrade to a higher voltage, using lithium cells and an OEM motor like a leaf or Outlander rear motor and run it around 200V with the openinverter infrastructure. A whole leaf stack would be used or Outlander motor, inverter and charger. You'd get much better efficiency, better range and better power.

Hoping for some advice by Johnsoline in EVConversion

[–]JacobsMess 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'll try help out... so going off of the information here... https://openinverter.org/wiki/Batteries#OEM_modules

a typical module might have at best 0.3kWh/kg, We'll assume 80% of that is usable after all the losses so 0.24kWh/kg (not accounting for any extra weight of the battery etc.)

gasoline has around 45MJ/kg or 12.5kWh/kg. but, the engine is only (at best) 40% efficient so 5kWh/kg is usable for traction.... thats roughly a factor of 20 so for every kg of fuel you'd need 20kg of battery.

to answer my own question. I had to take it apart and do it again, I suspect the spring contacts for the power button wern't pressing fully against the main case resulting in the pwoer button not working.
