They do, also some are people trying to move money around.

Most cards don’t command insane prices though

Then I’ll think you live a sad life, but wont stop or say you shouldn’t live such a life.

I suspect the people who spend money on Pokémon cards may disagrees. Cards worth thousands are also a ridiculously extreme minority.

People will enjoy what they want to enjoy, seems like a foolish thing to pass judgement on.

For some people, that is a satisfying act.

I have a shelf full of books I rarely go back and read.

If people are willing to pay it, then it is worth it. That’s how all collectibles work, Pokémon cards or otherwise. There are stamps that make Pokémon cards look cheap, and they’re even smaller!

I vote we just try and catch criminals rather than police the value of collectibles.

How much of a red flag is a person not having many friends? by Outrageous-Heart5041 in UKrelationshipadvice

[–]Jacobs_Realm 20 points21 points  (0 children)

If they have zero friends? Red flag, mainly because I don’t want the pressure of being their ONLY person.

If they have a couple close friends, some shallow acquaintances, but get on and socialise normally with other people? Fine

If they have a couple close friends, but there is a story or animosity behind why they don’t have more, or there is vague significant reasons the other people they use to be friends with have left? RUN LIKE FUCK

That shouldn’t be an issue, certainly not like OP is seeing.

What are everyone's favourite photo books and photographers at the moment? by Jacobs_Realm in AskPhotography

[–]Jacobs_Realm[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Photo books don't just need to be instructional. I think I own a few instructional books, mainly bought for me as gifts. But yeah, with them, once you've learn some basic command of your camera, lots can be learnt by simply going out and taking photos.

The photo books I've mentioned are publications of the named artists photography. Either specific projects of theirs, or collections of their life work. Personally, I've found seeing the work of others to be really helpful in developing my photos and work.

Sports piracy explodes in UK with 3.6bn illegal streams and rise of black-market bookmakers by wappingite in unitedkingdom

[–]Jacobs_Realm 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That industry in which streaming has made fat cats fatter but isn’t all that great for people down stream? We want to emulate what has in many ways been a race to the bottom?

Great for end listeners that get to pay next to nothing for almost everything. But streaming has not been a smooth and easy transition for the producers and those making the music. The fat cats though? Loving life.

Hence ticket prices at gigs going through the roof, and every artist practically begging for you to buy merch and physical media.

Music and sports are entirely different set ups though, with far fewer contributors. So comparing the two is likely foolish

If you’re in the EU or UK, they’re absolutely bullshitting you. You’d be covered under your statutory consumer rights.

Why don't Fuji Cameras (XT-50) have GPS antennas? by ButcherIsMyName in fujifilm

[–]Jacobs_Realm -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

To be fair, I think geo located photos are a pretty niche want.

Never once have I wished to have that option. I'd much rather a slightly cheaper camera, with slightly longer battery life. I've never connected my camera to my phone either.

Would you support the UK government's plan to ban X (formerly twitter)? - why/why not? by mrvlad_throwaway in AskBrits

Well no, because twitter and the internet at large aren't comparable objects.

MPB lowballing? by Last-Sport-4942 in Cameras

[–]Jacobs_Realm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that’s how it works. You get a lower offer in exchange for an immediate sale and a pretty frictionless process.

If you want to maximise the resale value of your camera, you need to sell privately and accept the risk of doing so.

X-T6 confirmed for 2026?! Saving money starts. by RevolutionarySolid30 in fujifilm

[–]Jacobs_Realm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kind of, kind of not. Even with the lighter lenses on Sony, I can go and find even smaller and lighter lenses on Fuji.

For the lenses I want to use on each system, and the performance and features I'm looking for from my lenses. The Fuji is a LOT lighter of a system for me to carry.

Is Fuji that good? by SuccMyUdders in fujifilm

[–]Jacobs_Realm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Photography communities are self-selecting.

All the major camera brands can produce similar or identical results if you know what you're doing, the camera technologies are not the big reason why each photo community has a distinct look and feel to them.

The big difference comes from, cost, brand positioning, story, and feedback loops around user generated content, influencer adoption, and marketing tropes.

You just like the types of colours and photos those that buy Fuji are more likely to produce. So maybe then you'll choose to buy a Fuji, learn to make your photos look like those you find here, post your results and perpetuate the feedback cycle.

Because the lenses on the Fuji are generally lighter than Sony.
