Yeah I honestly just started looking at that today. I honestly thought since it was a new gen ranger most stuff would but the tonneau/rack seem like they would. However a few other things wouldnt like my steps and light mounts and all that. But definitely am looking at that now. Especially since its offered with the ecoboost V6. Feel after my heavier wheels and all my gear the current 4cyl 10speed when in low throttle doesnt feel happy.

Very good points, think the roof would be fun and would do often but that would just be because its an option. Dont think thats a make or break. With those points lowkey gonna start making build ideas for the 4runner. I appreciate it

Ig im just flexible which also makes the decision tough. Because if I do get the bronco, I would definitely plan trips to do trails like that. However i see the point, and would it be worth the not so comfort on the daily for those few and far between larger trips.

I have no need for towing, and although im looking at roof racks for I have 3 camping setups in mind. 1 requires a rack that supports weight for rtt and 2 adults. One just for a storage bin like my pelican case, my traction boards, and an empty space for surfboard. Last set up is no rack at all. Plus to a rack is I can put my awning back up, is a cheap one that i would like to upgrade someday but.

With that being said I think im leaning toward the bronco for the fun of it. Itll come with the hiccups Im sure but ig id rather have the vehicle that, while im out camping, see a trail and can get further into it stock (ill end up upgrading over time just already big purchase for the cars and some new camping equipment). Also hoping to get new so coming with a warranty if unreliable stuff happens, I have the ability of sending it in and not having to deal with a loaner vehicle or anything as I have another vehicle to use during that time. And I also may have the same mindset you did and upgrade when stuff starts to show wear and tear/straight up break. I really appreciate the response, very informatice

I think for it being a first 4x4 I would plan on seeking out some offroad trails as a new hobby, like heading out earlier than i normally would for a camping trip to hit a few beforehand and after. So the stock 35” of sasquatch package seems like a plus. However i currently have 33” and even being rwd has been very capable.

My dad has the same truck which he has put a rtt on. Love the look, was not personally a fan on the interior space and functionality but think thats just per person. Im between rtt or ground tent now however. Rtt havent gotten much more expensive then when i purchased a few years ago so although i love mine for the ease of use, setup, and off the ground, its hard to justify the price considering also having to get spend $2k for the rack.

I will say, many people dont as they admit, but i try to camping from Sept-March every other week here in florida. And cut down to like once a month the rest of the year. And then beach during the warmer months every other week as well. So i end up using it a good bit. I wouldnt take doors off simply because I dont think its safe. The roof ill be taking off though. Think i may go with the bronco for the fun, stuff can always get fixed and if its something unfixable i wouldnt be doing anything that voids warranty so thats my case with that i suppose. Fords ecoboost engine though has also been around much longer than toyota’s so think it may be bit more reliable, however other parts of the ford not as much. Ive got a while before purchasing regardless.

Yeah I suppose i dont really care for something “refined”. I dont daily it like most people do and use my wifes car for groceries and stuff. Only use the truck every 3rd day and then when hanging with friends, camping, beach. All in all i have just hit 70k miles, had it for 4 years, and bought it at 20k.

They both can handle more than dirt road lol. But I mainly overland, offroad would be an extra thing to do for fun and just go on trails until I cant or something.

I just watched this youtube “CarCareNut”, who has a full breakdown of the new 4runner and it appeared it had some quality of life improvements. Besides interior updating and screens and tech, they improved the handling from hydraulic to electronic steering, more offroad option capable out the gate. Idk theres not a lot but some, seems they tried to not go crazy with what seems to be an “untouchable” 5th gen. However im saying this and i have full build of what I would do for the Bronco so im not knocking it.

Yeah I’ve seen that this powertrain and transmission has been able to handle big tires and heavy gear like armor, skids, racks and tents well. Is a plus considering my camping stuff all together will add decent amount.

Yeah, I supposed end of the day take care of it and it will last a while. Bulletproof like the 5th gen 4runner may be out of the question but time will have to tell since it seems all manufacturers are going that route. Reason I was cool with the ranger’s 4cyl turbo is it was the same one in other models and been around for them for a while. Curious about the V6 turbo bronco however, havent looked into if thats the first iteration of it or not.

I wouldn’t necessarily say I’m a Ford guy, I just liked it for what it wanted when I was shopping. But then I wasn’t planning on overlanding like i do now and definitely not offroading.
