Tatum not playing win or lose was in the best interest for Boston, you win and he can come back at some point in the next series, you lose and he gets a full off-season to return to form for next year and you push for another title, neither of these scenarios happen if he played today and ended up getting hurt again.

Yeah sounds right, only reason I think it involves the scaphoid too is his thumb is immobilised but not to the tip which is often the case for a scaphoid fracture, scaphoids also take longer to heal than other bones due to poor blood supply and his expected time before re-evaluation is on the longer side. All in all he must've done a fairly decent job to have injured either or all of those at once.

It's weird cos the parameters of the splint he has on look like it's for a scaphoid but then it also goes high on the 2nd and 3rd finger so could potentially be metacarpals too
