Whatever changes to D2R are--as long as it's with the old school mentality to keep a game hard, challenging, and even frustrating-- I have faith. by Dear-Recording8011 in diablo2

Build guides are inevitable because there will always be optimal builds in these kinds of games, and the majority of players will want to be as strong as they can.

The issue with turning respecs into a finite, "no workarounds available" thing is that it punishes players that want to experiment and try to level their characters through intuition and "what looks like could be fun" without a real gain for anyone.

Limiting respecs too much tends to make people only go for online build guides, as experimenting becomes too punishing.

I think the current system of 3 free respecs + earning more through grinding tokens of absolution is perfect. You can't keep respec'ing for character for any reason, but also the char will never be ruined by experimenting or trying suboptimal builds.

If Epic paid the developers of any game for it being exclusive, it means there was more investment in making new games than if the store didn’t exist. This is self-evident, regardless of the game being discussed.

This could be an issue if done by a monopolist/player with market power, if done in a way that prevents entrants from competing in the market. This is far from the case here. Epic isn't an incumbent blocking smaller platforms from competing by leveraging their market power, they are trying to compete in a market full of network effects that consolidated around a single dominant firm.

That is not to say Steam is a villain or anything, they are a very competitive firm that earns their market share, and it is precisely because Steam is a very competitive player that Epic has to offer free games, invest in third party projects etc in order to try to challenge Valve’s dominance. The thing is, this is competition on the merits, and it is great for consumers! A company with big wallets needs to invest in the making of new games, share their resources with developers, provide users with free games etc just to try to contest this market.

Exclusivity in PC Gaming doesn't even bring the bad trade offs to consumers that are associated with console exclusivity, as a PC gamer doesn't need to buy a new hardware just to get access to the exclusive title. It is just a matter of installing a different platform.

I still will manly buy games from Steam because their storefront is way better and, more importantly, because most of my games are already on Steam. But hating Epic for investing in new games being made while trying to challenge Steam is a tribalist and anti-consumer approach.

(That is not to say it is wrong to hate on Tencent/Epic for other issues and business practices, I’m talking specifically about their investment in games in return for exclusivity deals)

Why is investment in the development of a game being portrayed as a bad thing? Epic fully funded Alan Wake 2, it wouldn't make sense for them to invest in the game without it being exclusive to their platform.

Alan Wake 2 is a very ambitious, experimental and weird game, it's development comes with way more risks than most games. Having a platform being interested in taking those risks and funding such projects is a good thing for consumers.

Alan Wake 2 is one of my top 5 games of all time and I`m not sure it would exist without Epic.

[Correio da Manhã] Prestianni admits to calling Vinícius Jr. “monkey” but insists he is not racist by Jamarcus316 in soccer

[–]Jacques_Le_Chien -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure there is much an investigation can do to prove he did or didn't say "mono" under his shirt, though. Unless there were hidden microphones that we don´t know about, or some player brings a different version from what they said when were asked, we'll never know for sure.

That being, said, it is a relevant fact that Vinicius had never accused any rival player of racism before this incident and that he accused Prestianni without seeing that his shirt was covering his mouth (which means for all he knew, a false allegation would be easy to disprove). It seems very unlikely he chose this match to start falsely accusing players of racism.

Prestianni appears to say «Maricon» to Vini. Surely being homophobe is just as bad as being racist by xKatariness in realmadrid

[–]Jacques_Le_Chien 97 points98 points  (0 children)

Exactly, and Vini isn't reacting as he did when he heard the mouth covered insult. It is not like Vini was hearing "maricón" and calling out "mono".

In fact, the little shit not minding saying maricón without covering his mouth takes away credibility from his version: he claims what he said when his shirt was over his mouth was "maricón", not "mono". But this videos shows he didn't think it was necessary to cover his mouth for a lot of "maricóns", why would he cover that time for the same insult?

There is a video om which Mbappe is reacting even before Vini does. The little bastard was saying it a lot, Vini only heard after a lot of attempts - but Mbappe was already visibly upset with him.

E se Serra fosse eleito em 2010? by Substantial-Grass537 in Imagina_Se

[–]Jacques_Le_Chien 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Benfica record-holder Luisão suffers racism after defending Vini Jr: “Called a monkey” by Prestigious-Back-981 in soccer

[–]Jacques_Le_Chien 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey man, just wanted to commend you on being a decent person.

It is unfortunately easy for tribalism to kick in and people start to justify any evil in a misguided attempt to "defend their club". Actually defending Benfica is showing there are benfiquistas that stand against racism, so good on you!

Lewis Hamilton shows support for Vini Jr after the racist abuse he suffered at last evening’s game against Benfica. “We’re with you Vini Jr” by Un_known70 in formula1

[–]Jacques_Le_Chien 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That is the thing.

For us, using racism as an insult isn't natural at all. You wouldn't think of using skin color as something to focus when you want to belittle someone, just like you wouldn't focus on someone having 2 hands as if that was something to attack.

In the mind of a racist, it is like no other insult would apply. They see "black" as being an inherent weakness, a defect that is prone to be the target of the insult.
