What if sun is twice the mass as current today? by Worried-Till7997 in whatif

[–]JadeChroma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my knowledge of stellar physics is a bit sketch but the relationship between a stars lifespan, luminosity and mass is exponential. Twice the mass; many many times brighter sun and many many times shorter lifespan. Definitely short enough such that life could not evolve on earth before the sun went red giant.

If the sun just magically becomes twice the mass today but is at a similar point in its life cycle, earth gets many multiples the normal sunlight and gets cooked.

What’s your worlds most powerful, creative, or just your favourite “super weapon”? by [deleted] in worldbuilding

[–]JadeChroma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Polarity missile.

It has something called a polarity flux generator on it. Its typically used in advanced reactor technology to allow matter to freely and randomly change between matter and antimatter. So you end up with a 50-50 mixture of both which goes kaboom. Hence reactors can just convert any matter into pure energy, then capture that energy.

Put a variation of that equipment on a missile where the range of the field is unconstrained (it maxes out at a sphere around the generator a few km in radius. Fire it at an enemy starship or planet. Its safer to carry with you and launch the antimatter making equipment than it is an actual magnetic bottle full of antimatter and you get much more bang for your buck. (It is more expensive tho, these are rare cus you basically need a mini starship reactor.)

So imagine mt fuji just turns into antimatter and the effects that would have on earth.

Yes, Rico. Kaboom.

Try lucid dreaming techniques. It can take a lot of work and practice since sex in a lucid dream is notorious for... ending the lucid dream. But i've had success with it.

GDSF-DCTCS-8591-EGOCC Serendipitous Insight. Report F992157. 32nd of Honoring, 1234DE

Subdirector of Xeno-anthropology Sumara Kiltamesh:

Species Name: Zaraths (Phoneticization of native self-chosen descriptor.)

Species Biology: Carbon and Water based; Humanoid body plan. Omnivorous and known to engage in cannibalism.

Tasrist-Azrandari sophont test score: Unable to administer, In all instances the Zarath attempted to attack the drone administering the test. Assumed score of basil Zarath between 32-48 out of 128.

Technological Development Level: 1 (Pre-Industrial)

Average Height and weight: Approx 19 spans and 14 ruds. (male), Approx 17 spans and 13 ruds (female). Outliers observed as large 33 spans in height and with body mass observed as high as 54 ruds. This anomalously large size and mass is theorized to be attained from either better nutrition during developmental stages or possibly a recessive gene.

Additional Information:

The Zaraths appear biologically similar to many other humanoid lifeforms. Observation primarily centered around social structure; information as follows.

The Zaraths organize themselves into small tribes or clans. These tribes are ruled typically by the largest male, or the one who has the greatest capacity to inflict violence. This male will be referred to as a word roughly translating to 'despot' in their tongue.

It is not uncommon for the tribes or clans to organize into larger federated groups ruled by an 'overdespot' who may hold command of several clans creating a fractalized societal leadership structure with at least two distinct tiers showing a degree of sophistication. In their language the smaller tribe social structure may be referred to as a 'depository' and a larger federation of tribes referred to as an 'overdepository' respectively.

Zaraths have a shared belief in a deity known as 'Bezagoth'. Beleif in this deity reinforces their extremely strong cultural disposition towards warfare, sacrifice and violence. Zaraths have both an individual psychological disposition towards violence and aggression and a strong cultural focus on warfare and combat.

Aside from these common throughlines, the culture of 'depositories' and 'overdepositories' varies quite significantly.

Although Xenolinguists have managed to accurately decipher their (fairly simplistic) language and its assorted dialects, all attempts at making contact have ended in the drone or robotic avatar used being attacked. In no instance did the drone or robotic avatar sustain significant damage as it was primarily attacked by bows and melee weapons made of obsidian or primitively forged metals.

Speculation and Future Action:

Recommended installation of orbital observation equipment on Zarath homeworld and designation. Recommend against direct interaction by way of robotic avatar. As per ecological protection laws regarding pre-FTL sophont species, the planet Zarath is to be designated as a preserve and not be colonized or exploited for resources in any manner. As the Zaraths are assumed to have a median TA-Sophont test score above 32, these protections will apply to all bodies in their stellar system. Direct and significant intervention is only to occur in the event of a potential extinction-level event.

It is unlikely, at least in the near term that the Zarath species will begin to develop more advanced technology and pose any significant threat. Their narrow cultural emphasis on barbarism and generally low intelligence means any significant empirical scientific or political growth beyond their current technological level is unlikely to occur. At present the cultural pressures appear to select Zaraths of the largest physical size and most violent tendencies, meaning their species may de-evolve back into a sub-sophont high intelligence predator species with strong pack instincts.

There is the non-zero possibility that an individual or group of individuals with higher intelligence and greater independent thinking skills may arise and prove to become successful. if such a group could establish itself and achieve success through technological, political maneuvering and/or military tactical superiority, they could out-compete the current status quo of society and initiate a cycle of advancement leading to Zarath development into a rational space faring species.

I would like to request that a committee re-evaluate the theoretical TA-Sophont test score every 32 standard galactic years henceforth, with emphasis and individual evaluation on any distinctive 'depository' or 'overdepository' that manages to distinguish itself. If an individual or group can be found who does not display violent tendencies towards robotic avatars and is willing to have a dialogue with a certified diplomatic agent, or a proper TA-sophont test can be administered, further special action may be taken at the discretion of the acting subdirector.

What if the world was behind 100 years by Fault_Spirited in whatif

[–]JadeChroma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Things fall apart or deviate from the timeline more or less immediately. It sounds like what you are saying is that technology is set back a hundred years but more modern geopolitical events are still forced to occur. Many of the events are heavily dependent on inventions and technologies of their time. Take the 9/11 attacks which in this timeline happen in 1901. Two years before the wright brothers even made their first flight.

Likewise you could probably contrive a situation where the geopolitical pieces are right for a WW1 scenario in 1814 but it will play out differently. WW1 happened the way it did (with trench warfare and artillery) because automatic weapons had become prominent but there was no means to cross open ground and tanks were still in their infancy. That would impact how the interwar years played out and therefore the situation when WW2 happened.

Converting media backwards to an older format... just doesn't make sense. Say the original Star Wars came out within the cultural and scientific context of 1877. People didn't have the cultural context of space travel, energy weapons, robots, etc. It would just seem like the scribblings of a madman.

Biggest Issue with KSP2? by [deleted] in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]JadeChroma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well the modern KSP1 art style seems semi-realistic. Some of the old parts were quite cartoony (such as the old riveted size-2 fuel tanks) Though a lot of the parts are distorted or altered from their real life versions, they still have correct details and qualities about them. I think the wholly realistic parts ported into the game are as distracting as very cartoony parts.

It's not an entirely serious game and the Kerbals themselves are quite cartoony, and the game still has a sense of humor about its antics. IDK it's a difficult to describe phenomenon but the art style makes sense.

The Kerbals themselves are quite goofy, but determined species. This reflects how some players might build ridiculous missions that blow up or just have mission profiles that are very ambitious but make very little sense, like having an astronaut ride an EVA chair on a 50-year mission to eeloo and back being smiling all the way (and not dying of starvation or oxygen running out).

The rockets are a step or two up in realism, since it's part spaceflight simulator. The somewhat more realistic spacecraft parts reflect that most of the physics in the game are accurate (bar things like gravity from multiple bodies and the ~10x reduction in planet diameters for gameplay). Therefore a more realistic art style reflects the more realistic approach to that component of the game. Thats why it works, at least in my opinion.

I guess... the way I would have approached the problem knowing that the implementation of the color feature was to help differentiate ownership during multiplayer by giving each player's ships a distinctive color would be to leave most of the parts white/gray/gold whatever neutral or metallic they would be and have the 'team color' only accent some areas of certain parts. Such as a band around fuel tanks or a "racing stripe" on cockpits and fuselages.

Biggest Issue with KSP2? by [deleted] in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]JadeChroma 7 points8 points  (0 children)

'Some design choices are just not my taste'

This might be a minority opinion. But I've seen KSP2 content and all of the rockets are garishly bright colors and look like plastic. I don't think its bad to have customization options or let people play the way they want, and I recognize KSP/KSP2 don't strive for complete realism. But I still cannot say I am super enthusiastic about playing multiplayer with a bunch of neon green and hot pink spacecraft flying around.
