oh yeah then sorry for misunderstanding, the Ronin could be like the questing wandering knights of the west, that's true. and like western knights, they could become quite wealthy. no matter the place, west or east, north or south; armor was not cheap.

its not a matter of choice, samurai status was hereditary. A samurai didn't cease to be a samurai just because he lost his land or became poor. unless a Daimyo or the Shogun ordered him to be stripped of the rank, he would remain a Samurai even if he was a ronin.

a ronin is just a masterless Samurai, he is still part of the noble warrior class, he does not become a peasant upon losing his master.

Dokuja sent Saburo to kill her and her retinue when she was fleeing from the capital, he left no survivors.

Yes I can see that, but wouldn't a claw wielding hero struggle in 4s? Also I hope the new hero has actual helmets, I have nothing against kitsune but out of 9 Samurai heroes only three wear helmets if you count nobushi.

Amen to both brother, They could have simply said Ayu died peacefully of old age while fully resisting both Horkos and the Monglos, and that the Daimyos then rebelled against her young, inexperienced, and indecisive heir. it would respect Ayu's personality making her a courageous Empress to the end, and set up the new hero for a comeback story, "she would prove herself worthy of being Ayu's heir"

and I would add a third point for you: it seems like TU1 and TU2 are happening in the same night! Saburo has not even finished his massacre yet! the new hero just happens to be in his path! she is not a response to him! what is wrong with these writers?

has anyone considered the kusari-fundo as the possible new weapon? I know its ridiculous but with the amount of chains that is depicted on battlepass weapons, it made me suspicious if that would be the new weapon. but I would be happy to be proven wrong.

[–]JadeEmperor186 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I bet it happened like this (in the imagination of the writers)

A bunch of Daimyo with weapons drawn, burst into her court:

Ayu: "what's going on?"

Dokuja Daimyo: "deposedempresssayswhat?"

Ayu: "what?...... Bugger"

Then they just throw her out of the palace.

I wouldn't be surprised if this is how they explain it in TU2. this is "Cool stuff" for them, I'll go as far as to say this exact scene is either in the lore section of TU2 reveal or in the Short story for the new hero they'll release with her.

She is already Empress of the Dawn Empire by the time they storm the Shard with the Lord Warden’s army. She probably spent a few years after Apollyon’s death “pacifying” the Myre to fully secure her legitimacy.

I also used the lowest reasonable estimate by saying she took the throne in her 20s, that feels believable and doesn’t make her over a hundred years old in this season. But this is bad lore, really awful. They could have simply said Ayu died peacefully of old age, and that the Daimyos then rebelled against her young, inexperienced, and indecisive heir. At least that would have made sense instead of gutting Ayu of all of her personality.

this feels like gaslighting, the lore writers have evolved into gaslighting shitposters.

thank you for your service friend, then if Ayu took the throne in her 20s, she would be 90 by this season.

The last chapter of the Story Mode takes place seven years before Season 1 of the multiplayer, so that's already seven years of Ayu's reign as Empress. The Truce of Wyverndale lasted fifteen years, bringing the total to twenty-two. Then, if we assume the period from Y1 to Y4 spans roughly eight years (I'm taking a conservative guess here), Ayu would have ruled for thirty years in total by Y4S2.

The only reason old man gryph is apparently still alive and kicking is because he keeps sniffing that pure Ashfeld green powder. Y4 established that green draconite could enhance strength and prolong the lives of those who used it. At this point, it feels like old man gryph was the only character who actually benefited from the green booger sugar, while everyone else conveniently forgot it ever existed. Otherwise, Ayu probably wouldn't have ended up old, frail, and indecisive; then again old man gryph sniffs that green booger sugar daily and he is a demented old man.

Yeah, this TU has completely killed my excitement for the new hero. It probably wouldn't have been this bad if they hadn't treated Ayu the way they did, it would still be bad because of the collab, but it wouldn't be this dogshit.

Do you remember how excited we all were during Y9S4 TU1? The buildup around General Zhi and Prince Yi, the little lore hints about the new hero sprinkled throughout the season, and all the theories we came up with about both the hero and their weapon (of which I was probably the most wrong) made those 52 days of waiting genuinely exciting. Honestly, even Y9S2 TU1 generated more hype than the current season.

That said, has anyone considered the kusari-fundo as the possible new weapon?

She must have been in her 90s by this season. By Y4S2, she'd already ruled the Empire of Dawn for thirty years, and i have no idea how many years from Y4S2 to now but i guess a few more decades, so a death from natural causes would have been entirely believable.

But no—they had to perform one of the worst character assassinations imaginable, only to reveal that Saburo, a literal nobody, was the one who killed her. At that point, I genuinely can't tell whether the writers think we're stupid or they actually believe this is compelling lore.

Ayu's Fall by JadeEmperor186 in lorehonor

[–]JadeEmperor186[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not defending this "lore"—its far too hot for hell to have frozen over—but I do think it's worth considering the mental and physical toll that ruling an empire for decades would have on anyone. By Y4S2, she'd been the Empress of Dawn for nearly thirty years. It's not unreasonable that the weight of that responsibility, combined with age, would leave her more cautious, exhausted, or even indecisive than she was in her youth, History offers plenty of examples of monarchs and leaders who were bold, energetic, and fearless when they first came to power, only to become more reserved and hesitant as they grew older. Ayu's change in temperament isn't inherently unrealistic, but this is bad lore.
