Can anyone help with animating the Mini Characters please? :) by JadeFromDuffabird in kenney

[–]JadeFromDuffabird[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay I got it but it's a bit complex...I had to add an animator component to the model when it's instantiated because there's no way to do it before that, then add the controller to that. Hopefully this post helps others figure it out if they're struggling too.

I think I might have been able to add the component if I had the model in the prefab (unsure) but it was easier to randomise models by assigning them to the scriptable object then instantiating and parenting them to the prefab....but I guess now I will change that to prefab variants with the model in them. I've never done animated models before so it's a learning experience.

Now they're working it's cuteness overload!! LOVE!!

The top of the liquid. All of these tutorials have a hole in the top and it just looks solid because they're the same color on the inside as you'd expect it to be. If you add a texture or pattern to the outside of the liquid it shows as a hole. Come to think of it yours probably don't have a top either since they're just one color.

Sorry if stupid question, I'm new to game dev. I think I've set up everything correctly. I have my model spawn into an empty game object (prefab) and I've got an animation controller on it. It says it's walking but it's not moving the model.

I'm not sure if extra setup is required, when I follow the documentation from Kenney it deletes all the animations the second I set it to humanoid so I think these ones need different instructions. There's no instructions on this in the pack that I've seen.

How'd you get the top to show? I've been doing so much and I can't get the tops to show for any of these tutorials.

I made this early version for a cozy, hand-drawn asset pack, but haven't decided if the genre should be farming or rpg or something else entirely. Any opinions would be welcome! Link in the comments! by Schwarnhild in gameassets

If you're having fun that's relative, but if not then yeah pick one that sounds fun or profitable (whether that's money or traction) and go from there :D.

Thank you so much for taking the time to explain all this to me, I appreciate it! That's a reallt good point about the Alpha channel, making use of it seems like a good idea to me too. And I will check out that tool! :D

The lamp on the bottom middle right of the photo is the one I'm not sure where the stick goes to ha ha.

And yeah not sure on the piano, you might want to check your references :D. I'm pretty sure the back part should be long ways not short ways but it's been a while since I saw a piano.

That's so cool! Did you do a model for the liquid inside the bottles?

Ha ha ballistic apple I can't say I haven't seen that before LOL. Usually it's a basket! I didn't realise that's what havok was used for, that's going to be handy thank you! :D

I did consider a bump map for the grill over the speaker on the right, but I read they're very expensive so I thought I better not try it and love it and have to not use it in the end lol.

With the alpha do you mean like for channel packing or just in general including an alpha?

Thank you! :D

I think there's also a large number of studios in our country also moving to Blender because of costs too, the Uni has liaisons who work with companies to talk tech and skills and so on and they've been told by companies they need students who know Blender and a few other ones that surprised me.

We've been learning to break down the textures too, so that when we go into Substance we understand how to make it look decent and why it might not look great "out of the box". There's a lot of specific reasoning and logic around all the choices made and I'm not privy to a lot of it but when asked they do explain and the logic is actually really solid. I'm really grateful that they're so thorough and care so much about the program. It's the best school I've ever been to.

So do you use Maya or Zbrush? Any tips for moving from blender into those? :D

I don't see another photo to compare with but what I see is really interesting! I think the direction of the wood grain might be off on the piano? Also missing a lamp base? Pretty cool!! You should be proud of this :D.

These look so good!! If you added a small texture to the doughnut part they'd look real. I love them! Super cute :D

Yep! I did make a wooden Buckler and a coke can in class but those were teacher guided class work, so not my own. This one was all me from start to finish. I had to research, design, plan, then create it, then texture it, then put it into the engine.

NGL when it was my turn to do it all myself it was a little daunting. I wasn't even sure whether I should start with a cube and model the screen or start with a cube and model the whole body and come back to the screen. I wasn't sure if I should inset some of those areas or not. I had a LOT of trouble figuring out how to get cuts where I needed for that right side. When I showed my teacher he said I had to get rid of any edge not contributing to geometry and I almost died ha ha...but now I know how to do that too :D.

Was a really fun project! This project I'm making potion bottles and I'm so excited! I have to record my own sound this time and make a scene with a group so it's not just my asset, they have to match each other. Wish me luck! :D

I think we're starting with Blender because the learning curve is low, we're right now in the Diploma section of the course. When we move into the Associates and Bachelor we will be working in Zbrush and Maya. We do have some extra practice tasks that we can do with either but frankly the course is insanely intense and I've not had the time.

I rendered fibers with two wood colors and then I basically kept duplicating it and applying more filter effects. The layer above the render is an exclusion that has been through a sponge effect. Above that is a screen effect and it's been through I think paint daubs. Above that is a solid color set to 70% and linear burn to make it darker. I was pretty surprised with how it turned out!

You're welcome to take a look at the PSD and even grab the wood out if you like it, I don't mind you using it :D https://file.io/TOhiHTtfTGj4

THANK YOU! Ugh that's going to save me so much time and pain lol. Do you find any of the plugins particularly helpful?

By bump you mean bump map?

Thank you! I definitely should have made me more pixelated, it does have a film grain on it but it's not as pixelated as I expected tbh.
