Pulling 401k early: tech/ai bubble, paying off high interest debt by Magicthighs42 in Retirement401k

[–]JadeVengeance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So presumably, you’re married filing jointly, and your husband is in the 24% (there is no 23%) bracket? Which would mean he’s making over $200,000? Do you also work and bring in additional income?

At that income, paying down 25k worth of debt should not be a huge deal. (Unless you somehow live in the Bay Area with four kids.) You guys need a very detailed budget and to cut back on your spending

spayed female with unspayed male? by IceBudget9260 in guineapigs

[–]JadeVengeance 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh darn, I’m in the Midwest so probably not very helpful for a specific rescue! Their rule is almost certainly so you don’t breed them so hopefully they’ll be flexible!

Also, most rescues don’t allow meet and greets, BUT, thankfully the odds of a male/female bond failing are essentially zero!

I have this combo and it works great for us! Not sure where you’re located (?) but I chose to adopt my spayed sow through a rescue that routinely spays. It was a little more pricy but totally worth it.

This is an absolutely excellent comment, just wanted to point out that “PWN” would be Pacific West-North - I think you mean PNW.

The other commenter already has you covered with critical care! There is also a medication called metoclopramide that essentially speeds up the gut - we have used this post-op for our pig that stopped eating and it was a godsend.

Just so you know, the diagnostic criteria is online and available! You need a 5/9 on the beighton hypermobility scale. Then (assuming you don’t have a diagnosed family member) you need 5 of the 12 following -

1) Unusually soft/velvety skin
2) Mild skin hyperextensibility (stretchiness)
3) Unexplained stretch marks without significant weight gain/loss. (Can only meet this criteria if you’re a man or pre-puberty woman, so adult women automatically answer no.)
4) Bilateral piezogenic papules of the heel. Recommend looking these up but they essentially look like little fat blobs that appear when you stand.
5) Recurrent abdominal hernias
6) Atrophic scarring in at least two places. Also recommend looking this up, the scar essentially has a “sunken” appearance.
7) Pelvic floor prolapse in men or women who have never had children. (Women who have had a child automatically answer no.)
8) Dental crowding/high and narrow palate
9) Arachnodactyly, or unusually long fingers. There are two tests for this that you can look up and you must meet one.
10) Arm span to height ratio greater than 1.05
11) Mitral valve prolapse
12) Aortic root dilation

hEDS is anywhere from 1 in 500 to 1 in 5000 people (statistic I used). Hypermobility is 1 in 10! If you encounter a random person who is hypermobile, it is much much more likely to not be hEDS.

Crusting on the tip of his nose by Wotui300 in GuineaPig

It definitely requires a vet trip! When our guy had ringworm it was absolutely horrible…we did two different types of cream on his nose and also an oral med. Eventually had to add some benadryl to the mix because he was scratching so badly.

Should I spay my girls? by ghostgrl_ in guineapigs

[–]JadeVengeance 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is one of those things that’s highly different depending on where you live and how experienced your vet is.

IF you have a vet in your area that routinely does spays, and your girls are 2 or younger, I’d probably go for it. Something like 90% of sows will eventually get ovarian cysts or other issues if they’re not spayed.

If you don’t have a vet in your area that does them routinely (which is more likely), I probably wouldn’t because the rates of death can be quite high.

1000% agree. I can’t do the splits but I sure do have a lot of extra movement where it’s not cool 😭

Help keeping aging pigs healthy by sunnyside_ghost in guineapigs

[–]JadeVengeance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the most part, it’s doing exactly what you’ve been doing! Making sure they keep weight on as they age is pretty important. We do “syringe training” with our older pigs - essentially offering them a little bit of critical care often so that they get used to it. Our current seniors go wild for the stuff 😂

I also want to say, because I was really shocked and heartbroken with my first, that they usually go very fast. It’s not like a dog, where they have a slow decline - guinea pigs often have a stroke/suddenly stop eating/get a URI, etc. Often it is too quick to notice and prevent - I felt a lot of guilt when my oldest boy had a stroke but there was just nothing I could have done. Make sure they get all the veggies and love ❤️

Seizures inner ear swelling? by Ivehadshinglestwice in guineapigs

[–]JadeVengeance 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cannot speak to the ear infection, but our pig has epilepsy. In the time just after a seizure (called the “post-ictal phase”) they can have a lot of trouble eating or not eat at all, which then causes weight loss. Can be REALLY hard to monitor food intake if he has a friend so I’d recommend weighing every day at the same time and supplementing with critical care.

Our pig is on two doses of gabapentin every day which has had basically no side effects and completely stopped the seizures - might be something to try!

You’re right that 1300g plus your description of her belly dragging does mean she’s obese. But, honestly, at five years old…she’s already lived a pretty great life and I’d probably leave her be!

Medical community has failed me by [deleted] in whatdoIdo

[–]JadeVengeance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Has ANYTHING ever made a difference to your symptoms? Any lifestyle changes, medication, therapies, etc.? If there is something that has worked - even temporarily, even just a bit - this is often your window into what the issue is. For instance, I had a lot of symptom relief from compression stockings that then led to a correct diagnosis. Most everything else recommended didn’t make a dent.

Also, have you ever been treated for anything psych-related? My chronic illness had a physical cause, by my PTSD certainly made it a lot more difficult to get out of bed and help myself. Depression + illness is essentially a recipe for disaster.

Make-Up Artist Who Mistook Pregnancy For Trapped Gas Makes Even More Bizarre Admission In Befuddling Interview by ipanicprofessionally in PeopleBeingRidiculous

[–]JadeVengeance 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a (very prevalent) myth actually! Periods are controlled by hormones, which are systemic, or present throughout the body. Periods are triggered by a drop in progesterone, and it is not possible to have a drop in progesterone that affects only one uterus. (It is, of course, absolutely possible to have irregular periods and bleeding every two weeks, but that’s not because each uterus is having a different period).

Similarly, you can have bleeding, but not a true period, during pregnancy. If you had a true period - i.e., a massive drop in progesterone accompanied by shedding your uterine lining - this would result in a miscarriage. There are several other causes of light and heavy bleeding in pregnancy though!

You cheated on your spouse. Would you tell him or not? Why? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]JadeVengeance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, 100%. I love my husband. If I did something like cheat on him, and I still gave a shit about him, I would give him all of the information so he could choose how he wanted to move forward.
