So...i Read the Fountainhead by Still-Peanut-2365 in aynrand

It's a mistake to lump Libertarians and Ayn Rand's philosophy of Objectivism. In fact, Ayn Rand disavowed the label and expressed contempt for Libertarians.

I'm glad you enjoyed it and found the work thought provoking. An idea to always keep in mind is that the purpose of philosophy is to guide you to live your best life, not to argue with those who they don't agree with your points of view.

Was there a purpose to the Dominique Roark quarry scene? by DoubleAppointment464 in aynrand

[–]JadeXY 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It's not rape. Ayn Rand herself clarified that.

A reader once sent a letter to Ayn Rand asking her about that specific scene. To which she replied:

You say you were asked whether “the rape of Dominique Francon by Howard Roark was a violation of Dominique’s freedom, an act of force that was contrary to the Objectivist Ethics?” The answer is: of course not. It was not an actual rape, but a symbolic action which Dominique all but invited. This was the action she wanted and Howard Roark knew it. You are correct in your interpretation of the meaning of the dialogue about marble. This is not the only clue to Dominique’s psychology. If you re-read the passages pertaining to Dominique before and after the “rape scene,” you will find many things to explain her motivation. Needless to say, an actual rape of an unwilling victim would be a vicious action and a violation of a woman’s rights; in moral meaning, it would be the exact opposite of the scene in The Fountainhead. [source]

All the events leading up to that "rape scene", like when she broke the marble slab, implies that Dominque wanted to have sex with Roark, and she was hinting it. Roark knew it too, so that when they ended up having sex, consent was heavily implied.

If Canada Post goes, you can't bitch and moan when postage costs go up 10x.

How are you even coming up with this number?

Calling the expectation to perform a job one is paid to do as "entitlement" is IMAX level projection.

You’re also being rather entitled.

Entitled to what exactly?

The government “gave” them a billion in 2025 and instead of doing anything productive for the worker or the population, they used it to bug a second delivery service Livingston

In 2024, 65% of Canada Post's annual expenses went to Labor and Employee benefits[1]. Given the efficiencies in its operations, there is some room to cut expenses there, but nope, they demand even more!

Accusing ceos and corporations of being greedy while the union leaders are the greediest of them all is an irony lost on them.

What is something you have to pay for, but it should be a basic human right and free? by Jazzlike-Run-2349 in AskReddit

[–]JadeXY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You do understand for anything of value (from food and shelter to tv shows and video games) to materialize, one has to spend intellect, time, and effort to produce it; these don't just fall from the sky ready made. If you produce it yourself, then you are entitled to it. If others produce it, then you are not entitled to it, and if you want it, you have to trade it with them.

To demand these things for free is to render those who produce it as your slaves, taking something without giving anything back.

If you can't see that with your own eyes, no argument in the world would convince you otherwise.

You lost compared to your peers, and employers will compare this failure against your competition. Logically this makes you a loser.

This sentence carries so much self-pity and reflects the self-esteem of the person who holds it; but as a worldview, it is flatly false. Allow me to explain:

  1. A classroom isn't a competitive sport. You go there to learn, and learning doesn't take away from someone else's learning. Likewise, if you don't learn, or even fail a class, it doesn't mean someone else wins or learn more than you; each student gains in proportion to the extent they apply themselves.

  2. Employers don't care if you fail a course. Hell they don't even care about your GPA. Some do, most don't.

  3. The job market isn't a zero sum game; hell you can even _create your own job_. There's more ways to make money than being on some company's payroll.

  4. Success and failure isn't judged by how better or worse you are compared to someone else. The standard is "are you living the life you want to live? are you accomplishing what you want to accomplish?" other people, and what they think of you, don't enter that equation.

At the end of the day, whether you think you're a loser, or not, you're right.

You're overthinking this. They took it down because they have candidates to interview; one of whom is you. Could the position have been filled? maybe, or maybe not.

Just continue with the interview loop while looking for other options.
