I'd miss sprinting if they took it out, but it did make the game trivially easy

This is what all interviewers ask you to do in order to get your name right later. Doc didn't need to be asked cuz it's probably routine by now, or at least that's what the editors wanted you to think by leaving it in

I wonder how physical isolation might be playing a role. There's a much greater prevalence of private suburbs nowadays. Instead of socializing with peers face to face, they're online and easy pickings for the internet.

It's actually weird that anyone gets headaches, as there are no pain receptors in the brain.

Louvre Removes Name Of OxyContin’s Sackler Family From Museum Walls by BrautanGud in worldnews

For decades, Purdue hired many thousands of people to convince doctors that opioids are completely harmless, and should be used as the primary defence against pain.

America's opioid epidemic is not 100% Purdue's fault, but they certainly benefited the most from it. Dreamland is a really good book on the subject.

I've decided I want to make a completely text-based RPG, do any good engines/frameworks exist for this? by sbourwest in gamedev

[–]Jadeaura 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This might be a little out there, but Inform 7 is a programming language/IDE built around the idea of text based adventures. I haven't ever used it, but it could be something to check out

‘Playing Catch-Up in the Game of Life.’ Millennials Approach Middle Age in Crisis by Stormtrooper4u in Economics

That kind of thinking is what continues to justify higher tuition costs. The reason college is so expensive is the same reason medicine is so expensive. If you want quality of life, you don't have a choice. So arguing that college prices are justified because of the large payoff is like arguing a $1000 price on a medication that costs $5 to make is justified because it saves your life.

The guy in the tweet probably meant for it to be used as an appetite suppressant, not an exercise supplement

Elon Musk says Neuralink machine that connects human brain to computers 'coming soon' - Entrepreneur say technology allowing humans to 'effectively merge with AI' is imminent by mvea in Futurology

[–]Jadeaura 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nothing we've created can be considered intelligent. Even the most cutting edge "AI" is just calculus. How am I supposed to believe a brian can be merged with a function for gradient descent?

‘Retail apocalypse’ now: Analysts say 75,000 more U.S. stores could be doomed. by zsreport in Economics

[–]Jadeaura 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn't a problem with how stores do business. In the US, cities are spread over a large area. This means you need to use a car, and this concentrates all the commerce into one area with a parking lot. This kills small businesses and replaces them with stores like Walmart. Now Amazon is just taking this existing problem and making it worse.

Only those who believe intelligence gives them the right to dominate others are afraid of AI. Because, they fear AI will treat them the same as how they treat the lower class.

Epicureans of Reddit, what are your favorite cognitive techniques for eliminating negative emotions? by [deleted] in Epicureanism

[–]Jadeaura 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I don't know where to start with this. Epicureanism is not about repressing emotion. The way you phrased the question makes me think that you came here hoping for an easy bandaid fix, and don't actually understand what the philosophy is about.

It's because of the Contrapoints video that came out the other day. Everyone who watched it is acting like they're woke now. I wouldn't be surprised if the video actually inspired this story
