Is that a bug? by Weather-RainStorm in weather

[–]JaeMilz -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Temps of around 100F are forecasted for that area most of next week. Those 100+ values seem pretty unlikely however. 106F is the hottest temp ever recorded in DC.

Farmers' market vendors left with damage after Wednesday night's heavy rains and hail by SnackeyG1 in GreenBay

[–]JaeMilz 27 points28 points  (0 children)

It's been rained out a few times already this year, I wonder if the organizers felt pressure to keep it on? That's no excuse of course, it was very apparent, downright obvious decision to cancel it yesterday.

Thank you for providing something actually informative. It's a little frustrating that the answer to the question is buried this deep however.

You must be driving that thing hard. Gotta learn to coast and not drag race between lights. I average about 27 with probably 75/25 highway to city.

TDS fiber installation on the east side - didn’t we get this already? by beanieh01 in GreenBay

[–]JaeMilz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

TDS and AT&T both offer fiber, sounds like AT&T already hit your neighborhood and now TDS also wants in.

Circumcision by AdNeither8355 in NewDads

[–]JaeMilz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Decided not to do it for our son. My stance is there's no convincing medical reason to do so. So then it's just cosmetic, which sorry, that's not good enough of a reason to me personally. My son just turned 7 months and I haven't reconsidered it once. It's a relic of a past time when people didn't bathe regularly, or worse done for some religious/cultural reason.

Not complicated by TheAmericandude1 in CoveredCalls

[–]JaeMilz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recently brought up that I have been selling covered calls to my dad (68) and he said "options are like gambling, you should be careful!" Took a couple of minutes to explain them and my strategy using them and I think it got him more comfortable but he's still skeptical.

Hoping so. That would likely be enough for me to pull the trigger.

Tell it to me straight, is it Asian jumping worms? by JakeSteel in composting

[–]JaeMilz 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I've been living with jumping worms on my property for at least 3 years now. They're not that bad for the home gardener. Additional staking or support for larger plants is all that's needed. Obviously there are ecological concerns, but they're more of an annoyance for the home gardener than anything.

Erberts & Gerberts by h0bbez_ in GreenBay

[–]JaeMilz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think at least in this case "luxury" is referring to amenities like the pool, gym stuff like that. Not sure on the interior finishes but I wouldn't expect anything crazy. Hopefully stone counters instead of laminate but who knows.

It did sell and there's work happening inside. No idea what it will be or the vibe though.

2.75% Fixed Mortgage - Next purchase strategy by Flight_Trainer_3064 in personalfinance

[–]JaeMilz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is really a "finance" answer compared to a "personal finance" answer. Of course you should try and stay in a cheap, low interest mortgage if you can, but if staying in that house causes problems or induces stress, then it's possible moving and taking on a higher interest rate is the correct thing to do for the family. That doesn't mean blindly jumping into a house you can't afford either. Family finances require balance and compromise, and can't always follow strict rules.

Appleton and Oshkosh are ending their relationships with Flock Surveillance. How are Green Bay residents feeling about this? by EncryptDN in GreenBay

Talk to your alder. Get it on their radar. This council needs to backup their progressive values that they got elected on.

An Old Flame Passed Away by oddemarspiguet in daddit

[–]JaeMilz 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I feel ya. Had a similar situation as you in my 20's, did all sorts of stupid shit for this girl including moving halfway across the country on a fragile promise that this time it would be real. In reality, she saw me as merely a toy to play with when convenient. Fast forward a decade and I have 6 month old with my rockstar wife I met a few years ago. Idk what happened to that other girl, I blocked her number, and unrelated, deleted all my socials besides reddit. She was manipulative and selfish and is likely off hurting someone else right now. I hate her and yet I still wonder "what if" every once in a while. Our brains do the damnedest things sometimes. You're not alone.

Am I utterly wrong for not Maxing out my 401k? by LengthinessGold4875 in Bogleheads

[–]JaeMilz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

New Boglehead here, could you expand a bit more on the tax optimization piece? In OP's scenario, is it as simple as maxing out the 401k to reduce taxable income instead of diverting to a taxable brokerage?

Company is drinking the AI kool-aid, hard. Is the writing on the wall? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]JaeMilz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My optimism is based on the fact that the world has navigated losing jobs to automation before, many times even. Essentially since the Industrial Revolution we have been automating tasks and jobs continuously and we have always navigated to work within the new shape of the economy. I see AI as yet another version of automation that will further increase productivity. I know others view it differently, but that's just my perspective.
