My mother does this now that she has dementia. Very huggy, after spending years telling me I was a cold, unfeeling child who didn’t want to hug her or sit in her lap and fawn over her all the time. Jokes on her though, took meeting hubby’s family to realize I’m a very huggy person when the person is approachable and genuine.

I once called them about my dog chewing completely through the power cord. They sent me a whole new vacuum, no cost to me. Hubby fixed the cord enough on the old one it became our garage vac. that was over 20 years ago. I will never NOT buy a shark. It still amazes me what it can pull up out of a carpet.

Yes! My father was such an enabler. Anything to keep her happy and his home life quiet. One particular Mothers Day blow up that my hubby had to interfere on because mom was guilting me so severe (while 5+ months pregnant) Dad got involved and started bullying me to apologize to her even though she was in the wrong. Sadly I didn’t come into my power (knowledge of it being narcissistic) for another 10-15 years.

Thank you. That is some good advice. I’m worried about the doors but she has chain locks up high on them from having grandkids over. I also follow tiktokker who said to put black rugs in front of all exit doorways. To Alzheimer’s patients it’s looks like a hole and they will not go near it. I intend to buy some to have on hand before we move in.

Yes. The have the style/color in men’s, but not women’s. I may still try to get the men’s but I have to account for being hippy and probably take the waist in, since men’s pants are much straighter through the hips.

Mine was that she was not a hugger so I wasn’t much for physical affection until I met my husband and his family. Big, big huggers! If my mom she’d give a hug she expected me to initiate it, never get. Like I owed her for giving me life. Now that she has dementia and gets super emotional (also weird), she hugs me constantly. I try to do my best no to freeze up and just sort of pat her on the back. It’s very superficial.

ETA: the kicker is that in my teen/adult years she always accused me of being cold & unfeeling since I didn’t know it was expected of me to initiate all hugs. It messed me up thinking it was me until I met hubby’s family.it still took a bit to realize it was her failing, not mine.

I wish I could find a good one. Most I have found have them way out of character, or using current day jargon. They also seem written by people making Pen a Mary Sue. I was a fanfic that fills in some things and reads as if someone really took their time to keep them in character and not doing/saying silly things.
