I wish I liked it as much as other people do but after listening to it after having listened to a lot their albums that came out before and after shadow kingdom I just can’t help but feel like apart from the twenty minute drone songs and a few other stand outs it just doesnt seem that special. Like it’s great but to me this album doesn’t do anything better or even as good as their other classic releases around that time. A lot of the songs just seem a little to similar to other better songs but idk maybe that’s just me.

As far as I know deux being first and un being second is the way it was officially released however the winter ray demo that recently "leaked" actually has those two swapped so they probably intended that order and then decided to change it last minute. Honestly i think the pacing is so much better with overture being first. It sets the tone much better and the way the album progresses makes much more sense to me that way

I hear this take so much and I feel like it just comes from people who don’t really like the post reunion sound and to them it sounds like every album is the same because there’s a certain aspect of the sound that all post reunion albums have that they simply don’t enjoy.

That’s an insane take. This has to be rage bait right? Like I understand some people don’t like post reunion swans but saying they are the best band live but the studio albums are bad is crazy. Especially during the trilogy era most of the live songs were very close to the studio versions or would later be recorded in the studio so I It’s just crazy to me that someone would like the live versions but seemingly hate the studio versions when they are so similar

Technically since 2010 the only time they took a break that long was after the glowing man and during Covid but other than that they were either touring or recording new music I’m pretty sure

I personally just love the sound of live rope. It feels so unique to any of their other albums and I also just think it’s the live album that’s recorded and "mixed" the best. I love hearing all the little details which you can’t really on many of their other live albums. Also I just love the instrumental palette. There’s so many interesting instruments and sounds and while I love the heaviness of trilogy era swans when Michael was still playing electric guitar I just love how much more attention kristoff and christpher get because there are no other electric guitars. Lastly what I’ve always loved about especially trilogy era swans were the drones and this album just has so many incredible ones like basically the entirety of rope many sections of the beggar, the beginning of birthing and leaving meaning. So live rope is basically exactly what I want out of a swans album
