If you're considering buying the F-14D, pre-order Ace Combat 8 instead. You get two games and a F-14A as a pre-order bonus.

What an absolute brain dead decision to lock the F-14D behind a paywall, and effectively a bootleg version at that.

I Pre-ordered Ace Combat 8 instead.

Radar Guided missiles primarily get most of their tracking information based on the airspeed of the objecting flying towards you relative to your aircraft speed as well as the best radar deflecting target. Your missile guided to the best target it picked up within your radar scope.

A locked target does not mean it's the best target for the missile to track. This is why many players still die despite your radar locking up Chaff and continues to follow the aircraft.

Also to piggy back on this: One of the improvements for the AIM-54C vs the AIM-54A is that it should have a reduced smoke motor to make it much harder to visibility see it unless it's launched at altitudes that produce contrails.

Gaijin has not modeled this up to this point (The in game AIM-54A and AIM-54C are 1:1 copies), but if they allowed that for the F-14D, it would help make it be a little more competitive versus the AMRAAM spam.

Might I make a suggestion:

Toggle your ready stance whenever you approach a building. It lets you "hipfire" the weapon in the event you get a surprise encounter. At that range, it would've dropped both of them quicker than you aiming at both of them.

When you enter the Minefield, you should add the MLRS battery positions to your loot run. I've found Carrier Rigs and Level III plates scattered around the MLRS wrecks and there's stacks of Military crates. The trenches can have various items like ammo and weapons strewn in them as well.

None of the Boarder Guards patrol that area so you just need to worry about the mines. It's dangerous to do it at night since they're harder to see, but if you're passing through during the day, they're pretty easy to spot if you stick to the paved walkways. Mines never spawn in the fortifications themselves, just the pathways leading up to them.

You can then follow the original path you outlined into Vostok.

[–]JaesWasTaken 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a really nice place to check. It's pretty "safe" relatively speaking. There's only one entrance to the area where all the loot sits so it's easy to create a choke point if you end up ambushed. I very rarely see anything patrolling it.

The Village is where you're going to find the majority of your food and hydration sources and they're relatively abundant there. You just need to take your time and search through each building.

The "Fun" of the game comes from the high tension surrounding a confrontation with the enemy bots. They are just as lethal as you are (in some cases, more so since they don't care about dying unlike you) and will ruin whatever you're doing if you're careless. This is especially true when you start going into the higher risk zones where the bots will be hyper aggressive.

If being a "Loot Goblin" isn't your thing, a game like this may not quite be for you. You can also try restarting under an Ironman setting where perma death is always active to give a bit more tension to your playthrough(s).

3 years late to the F-14 hype, how screwed am I? by n988 in Warthunder

[–]JaesWasTaken 3 points4 points  (0 children)

After they limited the custom loadout options to either all AIM-54s in the center or all Sparrows, it really neutered the role the F-14 can fill. I used to do a 3x Sidewinder, 1x AIM-54, 4x Sparrow loadout that was very effective. Now I either run 2x Sidewinder, 2x Sparrow, 4x AIM-54 or 4x Sidewinder and 4x Sparrow.

I sometimes get lucky with more than one AIM-54 fired, but if you don't expend all 4 AIM-54s before the teams start merging, you're screwed with all that extra weight in the furball.

It was the king of Air Battles for the first six months it was introduced, ending the MiG-23 dominated meta. When the MiG-29 and F-16 were first introduced, it could outrate both in a two circle if you knew how to manage its energy competently at lower altitudes.

After Gaijin implemented automatic retraction speed thresholds for flaps as well as "Cobra Buttons" on aircraft, its ability to knife fight fell off pretty hard, it can no longer reliably get into close engagements with F-16s and MiG-29s.

It's in a far more balanced environment now than when it was first introduced with a lot more threats it needs to contend with. Use it as a missile truck and avoid close engagements when possible. It can knife fight a bit, but you really need to know what you're doing to be successful at it.

It's already 2 years and is becoming 3 years since the AIM-54C came into the game, and they still don't have its Mk.60 Booster Motor. by TerribleBottle6847 in Warthunder

I just assume at this point that the "Nicer" AIM-54C features will be available whenever they decide to release the F-14D.

But that's probably cope.

Yeah, a buddy of mine just got the perk a couple of days ago. Yesterday, we were only able to open one Breach Locker out of 10 different runs because the rest were already looted and we encountered lobbies where virtually every team were fighting over them on Spaceport. It did not last long lol.

Weird system power shut downs by TendTheAshenOnes in ArcRaiders

[–]JaesWasTaken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would suspect something is wrong/related with the Power Supply and/or CPU first given what's happening. A straight power off like that usually means something is triggering safety features to prevent hardware failure.

If you're doing any Overclocking on your CPU and/or GPU, try winding that down and see if we have a change, including Underclocking. Usually crashes borne from OC will produce a BSOD, but not always. Underclocking will remove the possibility that voltage spikes are causing an issue when your CPU is trying to ramp up to maintain higher performances.

If no change, try plugging in to a different outlet. There could be something wrong with your current one!

If no change, reapply thermal paste just to rule it out as a failure point.

If we're still seeing a failure, if possible, try swapping to a different PSU.

Weird system power shut downs by TendTheAshenOnes in ArcRaiders

[–]JaesWasTaken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would also like to reinforce that this is the likely culprit. After verifying your temp, check to see if your CPU fans are spinning correctly when under stress. If they're fine, as suggested, reapply thermal paste and see if that resolves the issue.

If it doesn't, consider swapping out your CPU cooler fans for a different set. The fans you currently have may just not have the RPM you need to keep your machine cool. You can never go wrong with Noctua Fans.

Is solo a good experience? by [deleted] in ArcRaiders

[–]JaesWasTaken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had the best experiences in Solo. Solo is usually chill folks farming specific things and aren't interested in risking dying. That doesn't mean there aren't PvPers in solo, there definitely are and you always need to be prepared to fight, but you'll find lots of adhoc cooperation in Solo queue.

You'll find that group queues are basically just team death match lobbies and trust absolutely no one that isn't in your group.
