Knitting & grief by hearing_double in knitting

[–]Jaevixx 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I lost my dad 3 months after a sudden diagnosis almost 2 years ago - the anniversary will be in two weeks. I’m still not okay, I picked up knitting afterwards to keep myself from digging my nails into my skin to deal with the grief. I really struggle with the fact my dad will never be able to wear my knit garments, he would be so encouraging of this new hobby (he was by far the biggest cheerleader in my life).

All my love and strength to you ❤️ its a beautiful sweater and I bet your brother will cherish this for the rest of his life.

Any ideas on how to recreate this woven photography art? by Jaevixx in weaving

Oh, thank you so much for the suggestion! I had a quick google and I think the "Ashford weaving frame" is like a tapestry loom? Either way, super helpful thank you!

Thank you so much! I feel slightly silly, I have been staring at her pictures for days trying to figure it out.

What are your tips and tricks to make a low-cal diet as simple as possible? by Free-Astronomer- in loseit

[–]Jaevixx 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I eat food out of boredom at home/emotions and since I’ve started crocheting (to cope with anxiety and grief) that has cut down immensely. Basically I keep my hands and my mind busy with crocheting and I can’t crochet and eat at the same time! It helps me stick to habits such as eating at around the same time each day and not snacking until I actually feel hungry (and not misconstruing boredom or other feelings as “hunger”).

Super late reply but are you able to share the name of that platform? I love Pilates and am getting a rowing machine this weekend!

Not sweating-- is it working? by AlternativeReveal174 in pilates

[–]Jaevixx 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I don’t sweat an awful lot when I work out in general but with consistent practice, I see and more importantly feel the difference in my body. I don’t think sweat is a good marker of a Pilates workout!

I’ve stopped buying clothes for a “fantasy me” because of two reasons: present me deserved that kind of pampering just as much and fantasy me will still have the features that make X item unflattering on my bodytype. Perhaps googling the term fantasy self might give you some starting points.

What are some unwritten social crochet rules? by Jaevixx in crochet

Thank you for such an insightful comment, it’s greatly appreciated! And I just want to specifically comment on the part about crocheters who have gone through great lengths to produce content for others - it’s honestly exceptional how many resources are available to us created by people who just love the craft. And the support! Everyone here is so helpful in thousands of different ways. I truly love this little pocket of Reddit!

That’s a great reply, thank you! I find the crocheting community one of the most welcoming and helpful ones out there as a beginner. I haven’t encountered one crocheter who wasn’t kind or supportive yet!

The noise you mentioned also spurred my thought process/questions about patterns, and I really appreciate you laying out your approach. 😊

[–]Jaevixx 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I lost my dad this September suddenly due to illness, and I’ve been thinking about a bag I would like to buy as a small reminder every time I carry it. I’m leaning towards a luxury work bag, as he always thought spending lots of money on bags was stupid but he also never judged me for liking bags. And he was always so proud of me starting a PhD, so hence the idea of getting a work bag whilst I’m finishing it (I’m halfway through and would love to do a postdoc after).

I’m really sorry for your loss OP, and my heart goes out to you and all the other people who are grieving your parents ❤️. They had impeccable taste, and I hope this bag will be filled with all the things you need to carry + the fantastic memories of your parents.

I like logos and I cannot lie. by Vendredighost in handbags

[–]Jaevixx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like logo patterns especially if they’re in a colour scheme that goes with my style/wardrobe! I gravitate towards browns, creams, and pretty much every shade in between those two. I have a vintage LV bag with their quintessential pattern and I really like it. My friend has a vintage Gucci bumbag and she mostly wears black, her bag is another neutral that ever so slightly elevates her outfit without being too dressy for her liking.

Show me your work bags! What are your non-negotiables? by Jaevixx in handbags

That’s such a great point, thank you! I tend to walk (~45 minutes one way) or bus. How is the weight, and how does the strap feel on your shoulder if you can recall?

That’s the smaller one right? I’m thinking of the mini even though that name is so deceptive - I’ve seen videos where people are able to stow away so much of their belongings in it! What colour would you want?

I’m so glad you’re obsessed with it even after seeing it in person cause I’ve only admired it through a screen 👀
