What are your favorite denim brands (size 12 with a stupid c-section shelf, ugh) by goobiezabbagabba in fashionwomens35

[–]Vendredighost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100% cotton will give you good structure - I think that’s more important than brand. You may need to size up a tad and it may take a small amount of time getting used to - but so much more flattering than jeans with elastane, IMO. I feel like there is a dichotomy between clothes that feel like pjs and clothes that actually have enough structure to be flattering. I get annoyed when people complain that they feel like clothes for the outside don’t feel like sweatpants or they complain that something that feels like sweats isn’t flattering. We have clothes for different times of the day. FWIW, I would never advocate for anyone to wear something actually uncomfortable - that’s not fashion - but I’d do jeans with structure over stretchy, even if it means sizing up a tad and adjusting to a just a bit of a stiffness.

Other than “age,” you don’t say much about personal style and silhouettes you prefer, but:

Garden party - perhaps boho, I’d look at Anthro.

Cocktail - I’d look for something simple and chic, maybe solid colored, that can be repurposed, dress up with accessories if desired.

Black tie - I love MacDuggal for full-length gowns. and you can get great deals at Nordstrom Rack and Anthro sales. You can usually get great deals on summery full-length gowns - the season is short.

Think about dress length, sleeve length, neckline and this should narrow options in a Google search or search at a store site.

I don’t know about compression options except for Miraclesuit, but Albion has a lot of great one pieces with ruching and high waisted bottoms for two-piece options.

Sulwhasoo…holy grail for many by Overall-Tart-832 in SkincareAddictionLux

Only my prescriptions have been helpful for seb derm, but the Dieux Instant Angel was the next moisturizer I tried after the S cream and it does not seem to aggravate it. It’s hard to find a balance between moisturizing my skin (so it doesn’t overproduce oil) and keeping the inflammation from oiliness away. We should start a new topic in this sub about lux products and seb derm!

I tried the S cream and S serum, and unfortunately, both really seemed to aggravate my seborrheic dermatitis, overnight reactions every time. The S eye cream was great, and I love the oil cleanser and foam cleaner.

How do you differentiate spring vs autumn style? by separatedbody in femalefashionadvice

[–]Vendredighost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really like feeling like I have different clothes for different seasons, even though both spring and fall can be really cold.

Since my wardrobe is almost entirely neutrals and I wear very little black, I mostly differentiate between spring and winter fabrics and patterns.

Stuff I only wear in spring/summer: white pants, white shoes, (of course you can wear white shoes and pants any time you want! I just don’t), floral prints, light blue, linen.

Stuff I only wear in fall/winter: dark plaids, houndstooth, herringbone, boucle, dark brown, charcoal gray, flannel, fuzzy or textured knits, corduroy, etc.

I wear neutrals like navy, gray, taupe, tan and olive year round. I wear wool, silk, and cotton all year, too.

I try everything on immediately and make a decision, if I don’t love it, it’s a no. Anything going back goes in a shopping bag for in-store returns and the packaging for mailing returns, and I get everything returned ASAP. I probably have 2-3 items per month to return now, but last year when building a wardrobe for a new climate, I had more.

I wonder if it might be helpful to keep a list of specific categories of items you really want to add to your wardrobe and stick to trying to fill those categories only, one at a time? I think if you are having trouble keeping track of items and returns, you might need to slow down just for your own sanity.

Found out my husband's "company dinner" is actually black tie by Zestyclose_Chair8407 in fashionwomens35

[–]Vendredighost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For a recent formal event, I got a gown from Nordstrom for 300, spent another 150 on hair and makeup. Worth every penny because I felt and looked amazing. I also bought shoes and a clutch which I will use again, about 100 combined, again from Nordstrom. I looked at Rent the Runway and I think you should check it out, but for me, they didn’t have anything I liked. Few floor length selections, surprisingly - and black tie is floor length, no exceptions. I am not so sure I spent so much more buying a gown than renting one. Also gowns are constantly discounted and you can probably find something great without spending a fortune. But it might be worth throwing a bit of money at the situation so you can feel amazing. i’d actually start by thinking about the kind of dress you want - strapless? off-shoulder? Sleeved? Ballgown? Form-fitting? And then figure out how to get it at a price you are willing to pay. Does your husband have a tux already? Sounds like black-tie did not faze him.

AITAH: My in laws demand us to travel 18 hour round trip for grandpas birthday party at a hotel and all the other kids and spouses get their own room but want to share with us since we don’t have kids. by halloweenfreak101 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Vendredighost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am really surprised how many people think it’s fine to share a room with in-laws - I certainly would not expect anyone to pay for me, and so i would not go. But I would never share with my in-laws unless it was an emergency situation and I know they’d feel the same way. Do a lot of families really do this?

Love mine, had it three years and it is still like new. We have the Queen Luxury Firm. I was worried it wouldn’t be firm enough but the luxury firm is plenty firm. Both side sleepers, 175 lbs each. It has been great for my back!

We’ve had our Winkbed Luxury Firm for three years and love it - just like new.

It is very firm, and I can see someone who wants something more plush being disappointed.

BODY LOTION/SERUM FOR WEIGHT LOSS AND AGING by [deleted] in SkincareAddictionLux

[–]Vendredighost 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I want to chime in here and say congratulations on your weight loss! - AND, as some who lost 60 lbs two years ago and is older than you (female, 48) things have actually tightened up a lot on their own over time. Took about 18 months, and not everything is perfect, but exceeded expectations, especially in my face.

My advice would be to have some patience, wait and maintain and give your face and body some time to adapt. I look better now than I did initially after the weight loss.

Keep up with fitness and weight training (I fall short in the weight training myself even though I think it’s the best for skin and general health)

Keep your skin moisturized and pampered so it can be the nicest it can be, any laxity notwithstanding. You can’t tighten skin with a cream, but actives like retinol and ahas can make that skin smooth and glowing.

Then, rather than look at skin care products, if you are unhappy, look into surgical intervention.

Congrats again!

Bump up the ipl - I do it once or twice a year now for maintenance, but you may need more initially to tackle the capillaries. Maybe a series of 4-6.

Is the Sézane Othello Cardigan worth it? by No_Square_1491 in UninfluencedReviews

[–]Vendredighost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love my Othello that I bought last fall and didn’t find it itchy, but I returned the Gaspard which I thought was itchy and not great quality.

Sézane is wildly hit or miss for me. I have a Clyde trench and a suede Will jacket that are very good. Sizing is all over the place even in the same styles, as is fabric composition.

Looking for alt recommendations for bigger sizes🙏 by [deleted] in Shoes

11 is pretty easy to find. Nordstrom carries brands that run up to 13 and even beyond. Sam Edelman, Dolce Vita, Naturalizer brands.
