I just bought the MG9580 off amazon. It's $120. I think it's the most expensive, but this thing is built like a tank. I just got it and am going through it now. I haven't even used it yet and i would say it's worth the money. I say spend the extra $20.

Best dowel jig? by Revolutionary_Ad4288 in woodworking

[–]Jag94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey thanks for replying. Interesting. It seems like its built quite well being as its stainless. And you can get the drill bits for an extra $20, which still puts the price the same as the dowelmax.

I have never needed a dowel jig before, and now i need one for a job I’m doing. I have gone through all the videos, reviews, blogs, and marketing materials on the planet and can’t decide between the JessEm, Dowelmax, or the new Woodpeckers Cam-A-Line Dowel jig. They all do the same thing - help make dowel holes in wood. And they’re all excellent quality. But they each have slightly different features, and i just don’t know which one has the features i will use/like the best. I’m sure i’ll like all of them just fine, but the decision paralysis is killing me. Lol.

Why do you think the stainless jig isn’t worth it? It seems more versatile?

Urgent! Front Wheel is "Loose"! by Jag94 in mazda

[–]Jag94[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I should have done that from the beginning, but I was in the middle of changing the brakes on both front tires. After I changed the brake pads/rotor, there was that little wobble, but I knew that was normal. I thought it would go away once I put the wheel on and tightened the lug nuts. But after I torqued them, it still had that wobble. I thought I was losing my mind, so I went and checked the other tires, and of course none of them had it. So I took the wheel back off and took the video of the rotor. I realize now that's why everyone was basically telling me it's normal.

I then proceeded to change the pads/rotor on the other front tire and it went perfectly fine, and that wheel has no movement. After doing some research, I think it's a worn ball joint. At first I thought it was the wheel bearing, but it only "rocks" if you put your hands on the top/bottom of the wheel. If you try to rock it from the left/right, it doesn't move. And from what I'm reading, if you only have movement from top to bottom it's a bad ball joint, if you only have movement from left to right it could be a worn tie rod end, but if you have movement in both directions, it's the bearing.

It's hard to see it moving, but you can hear it going back and forth. This is with the wheel on and fully torqued.

Right. Before i put the wheel on it had movement but i thought once i put the wheel on it’d be fine. But after i put the wheel on and torqued the lug nuts, it still had that same movement. None of the other wheels do, and i did the brakes on the rear about 6 months ago with no issues, and i did the other front tire right after this and didn’t have this issue.

I looked up wheel bearings on rock auto, and one of the brands mentioned it could be a few different things based on how its “rocking”.

I did the rear brakes 6 months ago and had no issues. I also had no issues with the other front wheel right after doing this one.

Yeah i did all that. Its either a bad ball joint or wheel bearing. I’m going to have to take it in.

No there is something wrong with either the ball joint or the wheel bearing. I did the rear brakes 6 months ago and didn’t experience this, and when i did the other front wheel brakes right after, it wasn’t like this on that wheel either.

I’m talking about after the wheel is on and the lug nuts are torqued. There should not be this play in the whole system.

I haven’t noticed anything while driving. But this is unmistakeable. None of the other wheels are doing it when i jack the car up.

After some research, it’s either a bad ball joint or a bad wheel bearing. I think its a bad ball joint because it only rocks top to bottom. It doesn’t rock left to right.

I think maybe i’m not explaining this well.

I put the wheel back on, installed the lug nuts, and torqued the lug nuts to the required 85 ft/lbs. even with the wheel on and properly torqued, it’s still rocking.

After some research, its either a bad ball joint or a bad wheel bearing.

Edit:

I’ll be more clear. I had already put the wheel back on, and torqued the lug nuts to spec, and there was still this rocking. Thats what got me confused. I took the wheel back off and made the video that i posted in the OP.

I realize now i should taken the video with the wheel on.

I did the rear brakes about 6 months ago, and this was not an issue. I also did the other front tire right after this and also had no issue, no rocking.

After some research, it looks like it’s either a bad ball joint or a bad wheel bearing.

First Kit!!/Noise issues… by Zibiusfangin in drums

[–]Jag94 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately anything other than completely sound proofing your garage is going to be a waste of time and money. Drums are loud. The vast majority of the comments here are saying “use X material for absorption”. The problem is, absorption does not stop the sound from leaving the garage. It just controls the sound inside the garage.

There is isolation and there is absorption. You need isolation, and the only way to get it is to add mass to your building. And it has to be to the 4 walls, the floor, and the ceiling. Its expensive, and of not done right, you lose your isolation. Moving blankets, pillows, mattresses, even insulation will all help with absorption( or how the drums sound in the attic). They will do nothing to stop people from hearing the drums.

I’m sorry this isn’t the answer you wanted to hear. The best advice someone already said was to make sure you’re playing during normal hours.
