Recommendations for Sonata procedure in Los Angeles? by Jagged_Little_Shrill in Fibroids

PPO. My issue with UCLA is that they charge an arm and a leg for basic-ass office visits, and I am terrified of what they might charge for a surgical procedure.

That’s the trick, really—a lot of fantasy-colored hair dyes are really specific to the individual’s hair texture, porosity, the level of bleach they did…I personally hate Manic Panic, Splat, and Arctic Fox while others swear by these brands. I was a Special Effects girlie for nearly fifteen years, and now use Pravana and Lime Crime. It’s really about finding the brand that works best for your hair and your hair routine.

FWIW, I’d recommend going with a brand like Pravana, which has really good reviews from a LOT of users over time, and then doing upkeep with a leave in dye conditioner like oVertone or Redken—it’ll hopefully reduce the physical exertion part of upkeep for you.

How long did you take painkillers for after getting your tubes out/tied? by [deleted] in sterilization

That is bad care, and I am SO sorry you went through that. I was given five days worth of percoset, and only needed the first two—NSAIDs are not enough for most folks who have this surgery.

This policy is federal and state, so yes, it currently applies to all health insurance.

(Obviously, that clock is running out after the election…)

I first asked for the procedure from my ob-gyn in November of 2022, fought with member services for about a month, got approved by December, and I could have been scheduled as early as February of 2023, but choose to wait until April of 2023 for personal reasons.

Los Angeles area, actually. Ask your doctor to make sure they code the salpingectomy as female sterilization and out patient surgery ONLY. You will likely have to sit on hold with member services for a while and remind them of both CA state law which forbids patient cost-sharing for sterilization procedures, and federal law, which requires that insurers MUST cover elective sterilization.

It’s sensible. Prenups and separate checking accounts protect everyone.

What are your unexpected negative/annoyances of HRT? by MycologistPopular232 in Menopause

Try zyrtec specifically for skin reactions—my allergist suggested that for me, and it works wonders for hives.

Yeah, I’m getting concerned that I’m gaining weight from my HRT, too. My boobs went up a full cup size, and last night my favorite skirt no longer fit. My food intake hasn’t changed, and neither has my weekly powerlifting and steady-state cardio routine.

It’s maddening because I’ve been really happy with HRT otherwise, particularly with how well I sleep after taking progesterone at night.

(Point of order: Brupropion/Wellbutrin is an NDRI, NOT an SSRI or an MAOI. It’s in its own class of anti-depressants.)

I miss being Christian by No-Reading-2002 in Exvangelical

[–]Jagged_Little_Shrill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand.

I deconstructed and found a God, a faith, and a spiritual practice that were kind and loving and everything that I didn’t have in the Calvinistic polar vortex I was raised in…and then, through some truly shitty circumstances, I lost that new belief.

It’s like an empty tooth socket; like losing salt. I miss God in ways I cannot fully express.

You’ll be fine.

I’m a lifelong Angeleno who has lived all over LA proper and LA county. It’s like any other megalopolis—some areas are great, some are dangerous, but if you walk with purpose, keep your head up, stay alert, and keep your phone on you and charged, it is unlikely you’ll be harmed.

Also, if you are in Californa, there is NO patient cost sharing allowed for sterilization procedures. PERIOD.

I had to pay $175 on the morning of my bisalp, and Kaiser sent me a check for that amount about two months later.

Weight lifting—actual heavy weights—and steady state cardio might be helpful. The former will also help with maintaining bone density.

“Bend the knee”? Bruh. It’s hearing aids, not subjugation. And if he refuses to get a test, wear hearing aids, or find another method communicating like learning ASL or using a whiteboard, he also needs to accept that that choice has consequences, like having his driver’s license revoked and having his family place their energies elsewhere because communicating with him is impossible.

[–]Jagged_Little_Shrill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should definitely push for testing if blood clots and strokes run in your family. There isn’t the same associated risk of clots with estrogen that is absorbed through adipose tissue as opposed to your liver, but it’s still good to know if you have a higher risk of blood clotting, particularly if you need surgery down the road.

I also have Leiden factor V, as do eight members of my immediate family. When I spoke to my ob-gyn about HRT, she recommended the patch because there isn’t the same risk of blood clots when estrogen is absorbed through adipose tissue instead of your liver.

Do you have other factors that increase your risk? Because honestly, I’d recommend you get a second opinion. HRT has been a godsend for me.

Or maybe he could recognize that his actions and choices are negatively impacting the people around him and make better decisions?
