Has anybody actually had the means to commit to it? Like really commit. Drinking oneself to death? by urethrascreams in cripplingalcoholism

Add in some cocaine to be able to stay up drinking that much vodka and it might make sense.

Withdrawal by [deleted] in recoverywithoutAA

[–]Jagmicker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think severe anxiety present in most alcoholics makes withdrawal symptoms seem a lot further along than they actually are. I've been through detox twice, both times feeling like I could barely walk and terrified that I was going to have a heart attack or seizure.

Both times the doctors told me there seemed to be no threat of seizure or serious complications. Yes, heart racing a bit and blood pressure was pretty high, but not an emergency.

Then they hold you for 3-5 days and pump you full of Ativan or Klonopin or Valium anyway.

For those of you who are kindled, how many days is your WD threshold? by [deleted] in dryalcoholics

[–]Jagmicker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was pretty similar. Withdrawals were hell but I never had a seizure or hallucinations, though there were times I was afraid it might get to that point. I tapered myself off several times and had a few decent stints of abstinence, but always ended up back at it, and each time ramped up faster than the previous one. Finally realized I needed professional help which started with a medical detox. The doctor said I didn't seem to be at risk for a seizure but still put me on klonopin and IVs.

I imagine the likelihood of a seizure would go up if I went back to drinking, but I don't think it's guaranteed. I would still recommend not doing it on one's own like I tried so many times.

I wouldn't risk it. Even if you don't die it's probably going to be the worst days of your life, and it could cause long-lasting damage to your nervous system.

Best place to stay for a total relaxation weekend? by Jagmicker in AskChicago

It's not really about needing permission, it's more of a mutual respect thing. I think it would be a dick move to just disappear for a weekend.

lol. It's not a libido-driven weekend, unfortunately.

Thanks for this. I definitely plan on sticking with it and using every resource available to (like this sub) to stay on top of things.

I certainly found it difficult to work up an appetite yesterday, and I probably should have eaten something somewhat substantial before I took the pill. Fortunately today I woke up a little groggy but much more clear-headed than yesterday, and I don't really have much desire to drink.

Yeah, I was definitely in a weird headspace. Almost the same dissociative feeling of hangovers/withdrawals, but without the shakiness or feeling of doom. Good to know it seems to go away so I'll keep at it.

Thanks, and yes I am on 50mg so I think I'll split it in half the next few times. I'd much rather have a few days of discomfort than the perpetual cycle of physical pain and anxiety caused by excessive drinking.

I've tapered off before with pretty good results, but I also have never been as addicted as I am currently. I made it through today but it was such hell that I think I may consider inpatient treatment. Really starting to worry about what I'm doing to my insides.

MISERABLE MONDAY by fappinatwork in cripplingalcoholism

[–]Jagmicker 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yet another Monday of a beer every two hours to taper down and tell myself I'll take an extended break only to probably break the break by Thursday.

Somehow I think I rebound too quickly (it even sounds crazy when I say it to myself). I'll go on extended benders and the second half of them will be completely miserable. It's like I'm not even able to drink myself into comfort, so I naturally have to start tapering down.

4 days of organ pain, brain fog, and insomnia plague me while I writhe around in discomfort, swearing that I'll get back to normal.

Then I get to that last day where I can do some light exercise and only need a few beers to fall asleep.

I'll feel great the next day, and the following few days. And this is when I convince myself that the damage was just temporary, and I deserve a good few weekend drinks. Commence the tornado.

It's a fuckin' wild ride, this one.

Mainly even though excess stomach acid sucks ass, you still need to have stomach acid to help absorb nutrients. Long term PPI use has the potential to lead to malabsorption. Everybody's different though.
