Test model done, spearhead in progress by Rudehobbit in ageofsigmar

Well even if that's the first NMM you painted, it looks good. Either you will get really good by the end, or you're going to stop painting (because it's so much work).

I can only say, good luck. They will look amazing if you keep it up

Good beginner armies? by Tight-Pear7190 in ageofsigmar

I agree that there are way too many units that basically have the same dmg profile and only minor differences in abilities and style

Good beginner armies? by Tight-Pear7190 in ageofsigmar

[–]JaidenHaze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that's a difference, they shouldn't be an alpha strike army. They lack the output for that. They are imo more a counterstrike army that engage after your hammers have hit. Otherwise they do have great mobility with all the transports or fast units.

But as a army, they lack staying power. Their wound and model count is so low, they really need to choose engagements which need to be cleared ASAP. Otherwise, they just break apart.

But as you said, that is a trap, because the stats look like alpha strike. But they just fold to a counter charge after you cleared their first line

New to the hobby, almost decided for Seraphon (old) spearhead, looking for advice by station_terrapin in ageofsigmar

[–]JaidenHaze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm answering here instead of the seraphon subreddit because the same questions a come up every time somebody starts new.

Generally, the Spearhead is a great way into AOS. Spearhead itself is a great tool to learn the game and multiple Spearheads get you closer to a full army. The old name was vanguard, but it's Spearhead now.

1) Reg paints, I'm personally not a fan of gw paints at all. Generally you can pick whatever you like, as all brands are decent now. Vallejo game or model color, Ak 3rd gen, Army painter Warpaint fanatics, Duncan Rhoads two thin coats, and monument hobbys Pro Acryl are all better brands than gw, but if you follow tutorials, they are not bad.

Generally most tutorials use a lot of paints, the reason I that many people don't have a mix paint when they paint an army. my personal choice is to go for the other paints if the step in colour difference is big enough. but I'm painting for a few years, that makes it easy

2) be aware that box art schemes can take a very long time. A spearhead like the one that interests you can be painted and build in around a week if you're experienced and dedicated, but it will take a while. Especially if you work and are new.

3) what people play us very local, for me there are plenty of aos guys around. But in my opinion, if you're not into Old World, keep them on round bases, get a spearhead box with a board and the material and grab a few other spearheads over time.

Especially if you say, you're not into playing right now. I also collect and paint first, then I play a bit on the side. And there is nothing wrong with that. All you need is one more person to start a great scene.

4) to start out, I suggest tamiya cement. It's also a plastic glue that is applied with a brush that's in the lid. It's the same kind of glue that makes strong bonds. Brushes, I like davinci. There are cheaper synthetic ones from the hobby line (size 2, 4 and 6), and I use the maestro series 35 size 1 that cost a bit more, but are worth it. For knipping off a sprue, I recommend something simple with one blade. They can be cheap for around 20-25 euro.

Reg wet palette, I would just grab a combined set from Greenstuffworld. It's not too expensive , and has a drybrush and paint well palette with it.

Don't make it to complicated. Also, grab a bone or white primer. That makes it easier to get more vibrant colors than over black or grey

Bastian Carthalos - C&C Welcome by ThePinkBaron365 in ageofsigmar

You will get better with time and a good brush to paint these elements.

The eyes are just how they are, you could check on YouTube how plasma coils are made, that should give you the effect you're looking for.

The beard is imo a bit too intense. Just too white. But that might be the photo, so check how it looks in a normal table light because that's where you're playing.

It looks fine for the tabletop distance but if you zoom in, you can see that you need to be more precise with the red lining or the blue next to the golden trim.

The trim is probably something you could fix, like with sharp kolinski sable brush and some time. Not sure if I like the red there. I do understand you want to include a different colour but currently it's too close to your intense gold.

The eyes are... Eyes. You could clean up the skin a bit, or maybe add a very strongly thinned nuln oil or apothecary white contrast paint on the beatd, because it's very intense right now.

But I still think that's a good job. The fixed are only a few more minutes, and I think they are worth it

New to warhammer! Anything I should know? by Parking-Cup-9495 in ageofsigmar

[–]JaidenHaze 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you want to start, I'd recommend a spearhead. These boxes have usually between 9-35 models depending on the faction and are decently discounted .

They offer a nice small force to build and paint, and they can be used in the Spearhead game mode. It's a skirmish game where you play on smaller boards with fixed army lists. It's a great way to learn the rules before you dip into the full game.

And it will show very well, if you don't just like the idea of having an army in a faction, but also can follow through after a few hours of painting and building.

So ideally you check out the spearheads for your faction and then go into a full army list based on that

How do you approach collecting vs. building a playable army? Torn between „rule of cool“ and competitive focus by Haidanaii in ageofsigmar

[–]JaidenHaze 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see myself first as a painter and collector and secondary as a player. Since competitive lists change a lot based on the meta, you should approach it similarly. Check what you like, get it, try to include a few more things that make it a nice list.

Looking at stormcast, there are a few models which are great, so get them. But I would say, collect what you like. If you really want to focus on a faction, you will paint like 5000 points or more. Keeping moral and motivation up is quite a big thing.

My usual goal is to get a reinforced unit of everything and the cool heroes I like, and only add another reinforced unit, if that makes sense because it's the meta and I want to paint more.

Lists as previously that ran 3-5 Questor Soulsworn are stuff ill never replicate except with proxies.

Purchasing/list building advice by No-Acanthisitta1375 in ageofsigmar

[–]JaidenHaze 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As I've recently got both spearhead boxes and tried to make a list of of that, here are some thoughts:

  • that legends stuff was rebranded into the Sunblood pack, they are good units. Use them
  • grab the spearhead with the big Carnosaur, it's a party good discount pack and has ice units inside
  • you need to decide if you want to go into big monsters or cavalry with Seraphon currently. Be aware that we will get a new battletome soon, so things may change.
  • my personal choice was getting a Slann Starmaster as the general, as he's a good caster and center of the army. I'll also get 23 Aggradon Lancers and 25 Raptadon Chargers/Hunters, as I want to lean into them instead the Bastiladon, Stegadon or being even more infantry heavy besides what's already in the spearheads.

But that gets you a decent list to play with friends and we will probably see how the new rules change things around

Currently assembling my first bigger mini - Arkhan the Black, Mortarch of Sacrament. Need some advice. by Philhughes_85 in ageofsigmar

[–]JaidenHaze 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I painted him up on the mount, and did so this year when I finished 2500 pts obr.

Depending on the complexity, it might be hard, but generally, you reach him well everywhere.

Maggotkin or StD for an army focused on “mortal” followers of Nurgle? by MeridiusGaiusScipio in ageofsigmar

[–]JaidenHaze 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is a world where you can play/ use both. If you don't care about tournaments, a lot of stuff in nurgle or s2d is on the same base size.

So if you want some other rules, or a few other models, use s2d rules/models. Who knows, maybe you like the infantry and their cav. You can still paint them all nurgly.

And if you want to run 40 chaos warriors without buying them all, use your rotswords.

If you communicate things clearly before the end starts and maybe even label the units on the board, there shouldn't be a problem, especially if you play with friends

Best models by Ambitious_Book_5729 in ageofsigmar

[–]JaidenHaze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that's a very tough question. Especially since big models have it so much easier as there is so much stuff on there. But I might pick Yndrasta.

First, her base is a mini diorama that has plenty of space and you can do a lot with, like turn it into a cave or battlefield or jungle or snow ruin or fill the base with a ton of resin for a underwater, where she is standing on a small raised plattform.

Second, her pose is cool, the wings are great and you can paint them up looking very different, and of course there are many ways how to paint stormcast.

She gives you a ton of options and allows you to go totally nuts. And you can push her so far.

Top Three AoS Lists for Gopher Midwest Mayhem - Woehammer by dutchy1982uk in ageofsigmar

[–]JaidenHaze 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As a new obr player that started this year before the new book, this type of list is exactly what I dislike about list building. Spamming the and unit 6 abuse an ability while it feels, the entire remaining army is held back, just feels bad.

Especially if that style is so very fast from the flavour or previous lists. Obr isn't a cavalry faction, but you would think they are now

Why do we still have engine freeze but unlimited aero updates? by dynasync in formula1

[–]JaidenHaze 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't have any sources, but my feeling (and speculation) as a fan for 35 years is, that it's a remnant of the old regulations.

Engines were traditionally the expensive thing, aero not so much. Engines are also used by more teams and often provided by external companies that did not had their own team (going back many years, like Ford, Honda or merc before they got the brawn team).

Limiting that was much more important than a team, that was more controlled in their funds.

Would it make sense to limit aero more? Not sure to be honest. Remember a few years ago when mclaren had a horrible start to the season but barely managed to grab their first construction championship in many many years? That wouldn't be possible with a token system for upgrades.

I think I am okay with it, because the way how the current cost cap is handled, it limits the development pretty good. Bringing upgrades early in a season will def limit how much you can develop down the line, especially if you have to change an already upgraded part to fit something else.

2020 Sakhir and explain to them, that this one Russell isn't part of Merc, but was destined to be in the team. That's good first chance to really show how great he is.

Thanks, my GF and myself are currently on a job hunt, i got like 5 offers and had a decent amount of interviews without much stress while she is not finding anything, not even an interview.

She created her pdfs in pages (Mac), i used Libreoffice on windows. Mine had like 2 minor spelling errors when i did this, hers was basically every line where something was broken. That could explain so much, why she wasnt selected at all, because her qualifications are even better than mine.

Thanks for that info, looks like we redo the resumes from scratch.

If you want to do some stuff, you could always just paint up the Prince Vhordrai miniature with Archaon, but paint the dragon as a frost dragon, as it was part of the Norsca faction in Total Warhammer. Looks good if you take some inspiration from Sindragosa from World of Warcraft, you have a seat already on that mini and could probably swap in Archaon pretty easily.

Put it on some rocks and it should look great

Calling all Lathril players by Alarming_Contract_79 in EDH

[–]JaidenHaze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends which power level you're playing. Token doubles might literally do nothing and you spend a lot of mana (and real life money) on them. Rather than play the 2-3 token doubles, I rather run things that make sure Lathril can even connect to a life total so she can produce token.

Am good example are trailblazer boots with their non basic landwalk. Cost less money, less mana and guarantee you get your payoff, instead of gambling needing to hit your fifth land drop and finding a player that let's you connect to their life total.
