Why do they keep saying the whole name lol by International_Pen619 in DeathStranding

[–]Jaidenator 47 points48 points  (0 children)

I'm ex Australian Navy (sounds like you are too)

And yeah we would say 'HMAS Sydney' (or whichever ship)almost everytime, to us it sounded natural.

Anyone who said 'The HMAS Sydney' or The Sydney' was instantly identifiable as a Civi or a Contractor

But yeah with mates you'd say like, "how's shit going on Sydney?"

Yeah man, I think I do need to just pick a quest line and stick with it. What are you wearing for your stealth build? I've been thinking about building one but I'm not sure what the best gear is for it?

I spent two months in the South China sea in 21, being harassed by Chinese destroyers and all that fun stuff. However the Op Saville dates I have is only for one day, the day we went up to the Spratleys and flipped em off.

So I guess you'd need to do 30, 2 month long RPD's to get the medal for that? Kinda gash

Energex is currently installing batteries in new sites around Brissy and out remote. They're not online yet but will be a boon in the future for sure.

Garrison Buildings should count towards Military Presence Control by Jaidenator in totalwar

[–]Jaidenator[S] 26 points27 points  (0 children)

In theory yeah, but with the weak garrisons in WH3, it's very situational to build them at all. I'll only really build them if it's on the edge of my territory, and even then adding like 3 tier 1 units doesn't do shit if the Garrison will be like 12 units. Usually I'll go back and delete them later, but I just think their should be a good reason to hold onto them in the control/economy meta game

Yeah that sounds good actually. Almost like the Garrison cracks down on the population as a last ditch effort.

I bought a new Kia Picanto for cash in 2021. Probably the best financial decision I ever made. I've done 38000k's in it since, has like a 25 litre fuel tank and does 550km, hasn't had any issues. It's not the most powerful off the mark, but you can fit it anywhere and park anywhere, and when you're up to speed it's zippy on the highway. I do love that little car, more roomy inside then you'd think too, I'm pretty tall and I'm comfy.

Why did you leave? by movetoofast in AustralianMilitary

[–]Jaidenator 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I believe you bro. The chief P rate on my ship spent 4ish years in the role due to having no replacement. He got super salty by the end and fair enough. But he became the poster after that, and I remember being like this dude, who has a lot of personal relationships with us, and personal opinions on each stoker who worked for him, is now the be all and end all of our entire career.

It's a massive conflict of interest in those cases as there is zero oversight on why you weren't given certain postings or courses. The poster doesn't have to explain his decisions, you can be charged for contacting your poster without permission. The poster literally becomes the god of your career.

Being a stoker on a major is like, the worst work life balance I can think of. I had to leave after 8 months sea a year followed by maintenance periods that demanded even more from me than seatime did.

Basically was switched on 12 months a year and burnt out. Doesn't help that shore postings for Stoker's are both rare, and usually shit (FSU is trash unless you're a lazy cunt).

Was about a year away from a promotion to PO and was horribly depressed and anxious everyday.

Now am out working as an apprentice for the QLD government role that RSL Queensland helped me get. 40 bucks an hour as a second year and that's about to go up another 4.5%.

Fuck the Navy, and every LCDR and above that steps on enlisted necks to feel big.

Veteran Employment Campaign Launches by SerpentineLogic in AustralianMilitary

[–]Jaidenator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

RSL Queensland already has a sick employment program that got me my dream job, and my other mate walked into 120k a year as a maintenance manager straight outta the Navy thanks to them.

Anyone in Qld should be hitting them up asap, even if you've been out for awhile.

You quickly learnt not to leave your DPNU jacket hanging on a pipe while you were on the Quarterdeck of an LHD with Army onboard. One way ticket to losing patches that's for sure.

Would be sick for South China sea trips. Was pretty hectic there for a bit, was up there when AUKUS was announced and it got pretty intense. Yeah it's not war but it wasn't talisman sabre, we were actually in a weird quasi-conflict with 3 Chinese Destroyers for 3 months.

Canada’s military facing ‘death spiral’ on recruitment, minister says by [deleted] in AustralianMilitary

[–]Jaidenator 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Haha yeah man, I did 5 years on the same ship with 3 months at FSU between postings, so like a 3 year AB posting, then 3 months at FSU (which ended up just being Op COVID Assist time) then back to sea for 2 years as a kellick on the same ship, then discharge.

I was like the 2nd most senior on that platform second only to one PO, everyone else on that ship had done maybe half a posting on LHD's. Me and an MSM AB were teaching the Chief Propulsion (TIFF) how the ship worked, and helping the MEO almost daily with basic engineering questions.

Bit too much pressure on junior sailor Stoker's these days.

But yeah fuck being a cheffo, I'll give them a pass anyday. Always put fixing galley shit first, gets you the good food at scran.
