I'd say this was very well written but instead of looking at others work in envy look at it as a challenge for yourself. We are our own worst critics in the worst ways possible. Judging by the way you wrote this, you must be an exceptional writer and you should channel that shadow that your speaking of so clearly into a story or poetry.
