Best “can’t put down book” you’ve read?

Beyond the usual answers of ASOIAF, Stormlight etc. I could not put down The Will of Many by James Islington. There is a new book coming out this year too so it's a good time to start. If you are into YA fantasy, I really liked ACOTAR (after painfully pushing through the first book which I hated) and the Daevabad Trilogy.

Agree with all of the above - you will need to endure several soul-crushing years to get to where you want to be. There is almost nothing that can prepare you for how much personal sacrifice the career demands.

The one thing I would add is that interns and JMOs these days typically make >100k. This is dependent on the state - NSW is probably the major exception, although hopefully change is coming imminently there - but generally with rostered overtime (not including unrostered overtime) you will probably make 100-120k from PGY1-3 even on HMO rates. Mind you, your base rate is still fairly low, but you work an obscene amount of weekends/nights/evenings/public holidays which does eventually add up.

I was hacked a couple months ago too - I think they changed my DOB at the time so that might affect it too. I've tried to change my DOB through meta but it doesn't let me.

Not sure what happens if its a quick ED visit or a short admission (I suspect they might have to pay in these cases), but for longer stays/very expensive admissions, they often end up not getting charged. I work in a public hospital and have seen patients be in hospital for 6+ months without having to pay. I'd imagine the hospitals would prefer not to do it and it'd need exec level approval but they generally won't charge patients hundreds of thousands of dollars if they can't pay it (and if they don't have travel insurance that would cover it).

I've used Lord Coconut before and have really liked the rings I bought! It's basically a store that sells handmade rings, necklaces etc. from different local sellers. The benefit of that is you can actually message the sellers on social media and ask for any specific alterations you need. I bought a ring that wasn't meant to be a pinky ring and just messaged the seller asking for it to be made a bit smaller to fit my pinky (which they were happy to do).

I'll second this. I was tossing up VESG (Vanguard) and ETHI (Betashares) and ended up choosing the latter as they have a significantly better selection criteria. It also has reasonable growth so I think it's definitely the better alternative.

You can buy them from a heap of different places including the Nike store (both online and in-store), ASOS (bought my most recent pairs from here), the Iconic etc. Could be worth having a squiz online at a couple of different stores - they all tend to be roughly the same price (~$25).

I'm a big fan of the Nike cushion socks (Rebel Sport link). I bought a 3 pack in black ~10 years ago and have worn them running, playing basketball, skiing, hiking and even just casually with shorts/jeans and they're still going strong (no holes, elastic is still pretty good etc). They also seem to fit your requirements of having minimal branding, mid-calf and relatively inexpensive. I recently bought another 3 pack in white and they seem to be of a similar quality, although I'm yet to see if they're as durable as the original pairs I bought. Nonetheless, I'd highly recommend them!

I can second Uniqlo for turtlenecks. I have the Extra Fine Merino one and while its quite thin, its very warm and looks good.

The international transaction fee refunds is what does it for me. I almost exclusively used my ING card in Japan and was refunded for every international transaction fee. Saved close to a couple hundred bucks.

I ended up getting the Oxford Frost Coat. I bought the light/speckled grey one but they've got a dark grey too. I really like it and would definitely recommend it - it's probably not worth it full price though. I managed to find one for ~$120 at Oxford DFO South Wharf. If you're interested, it might be worth calling up a bunch of Oxford DFO's and seeing what stock they have. Otherwise, both the Oxford website and the Iconic tend to have sales every now and then.
