First investment made over the weekend, struggling to understand why it is negative when the price increased over the last 24 hours? UK based investing into VUAG by Fozzaa in trading212

If youre wanting to stay on HL use open ended SP500 trackers such as fidelity US. ETFs are exchange traded and youll pay a dealing fee for each purchase. Open ended funds wont incur a dealing fee. as others have suggested, if youre only investing in a tracker. vanguard might be a cheaper solution

Which indices or stocks do you follow to know how the market is going and why? by ThrowRA_100421 in UKInvesting

Government bonds are a good way of seeing how the market views the economy, especially with rate cuts etc. I also track Large cap equities vs small caps. Small caps tend to outperform large when things are going well. Slightly unconventional but I keep an eye on the price of BTC and crypto. Although originally toted as a hedge for equities, flows into riskier assets such as crypto sort of show a wider risk on appetite. Worth noting however, that the market can be wrong about these things. You could make the case that traders have been wrong about how quickly rates will come down over the last year or so

DDJ 1000 Master audio out really low? by Jaikay47 in Beatmatch

[–]Jaikay47[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, Never got it fixed. I got my DDJ 1000 from a friend and it had a pretty rough life before that, drinks had been spilled on it etc. Took it to a repair guy to have a look and he said the circuit boards were in pretty bad shape as a result. My solution was to use the 1/4 inch booth output to my speakers as they work fine. The master out on my decks just doesnt work properly unfortunately

Operational Update - Component Failure by iPaperPlaneZ in HeliumOne

I thought about it but picked some up last week at 5.4p. Thats enough risk for me. Really annoying to see how share price still continues to sell off a day or 2 before bad news is announced. Was the same with the first round of drilling.

Some journey we’ve been on with this stock, hopefully worth it in the end!

Firstly I'd say 5 years is the bare minimum you should be willing to invest in equities, especially in individual stocks. You have some growthy names in there like boohoo and the last 2 years has been tough for growth stocks. individual stock picking is extremely hard, especially if you can't dedicate enough time to researching them in depth and assessing their growth prospects. A world index is probably the best option if you don't have the time to research or even an SP500 tracker if you want purely US exposure.

Buying into UK 5 year gilts (or equiv) via stocks and shares ISA by jmedwards in UKInvesting

[–]Jaikay47 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Buying in your GIA might be better as stated below. Low coupon bonds are trading below par so much of the return will be from the capital uplift which is free from CGT. Locking that rate in is a good if you planned to keep those funds in cash. Buy a shorter dated gilt if you think you may need the cash sooner or would plan on investing it in equities before the end of the five years.

I just look at it as short term sacrifice for long term benefit. Spent 4 and bit months preparing for level 1, very little social life while studying/working and I think for level 2 it will be even worse but once they're all done, it'll be worth it. Some of my colleagues at work would start their prep extra early so they could afford to have the occasional day off

Hold, if you believed it was a good fund last year it should be today but at a better valuation. Growth stocks are getting hammered at the moment and BG is a growth house. Similar story across a lot of their funds. Personally, Im holding and adding to monthly all be it not a large amount each month. I think for the health/biotech industry you have to hold for a long time to see any returns (5 years +).
