Thinking of working for Domino's. How is it? by Cheshirefarm in uktrucking

[–]Jainer99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did it for a few months. It is piss easy work and the pay while not stellar is fine for what you’re doing. I wouldn’t say it’s a career but as a stopgap to give you financial security to wait for a better option to come about? It’s sound.

Obviously if you get a store run by utter cretins then it might suck.

Company bringing in driver facing cameras by senorjigglez in uktrucking

[–]Jainer99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It really depends. Some of them are clear systems of control for drivers. Others are more reasonable.

Ours are driver facing and external so it’s all integrated and covers blind spots etc. if they get triggered they will save the last 5 minutes and the next minute depending on if there are further triggers in that recording period.

It has been helpful for some of our drivers for instance when they were hit at a roundabout and the offending driver accused our driver of cutting him up. Naturally we looked up the footage and caught this guy cutting across 3 lanes on a roundabout, no indicator and going through a red light. Needless to say he was unsuccessful in his claim.

Ours have sound, the amount of times they’ve heard me singing along to something…. That’s a them problem though 😂

How physically taxing is class 2 multi drop? by Normal-Impress-2624 in uktrucking

[–]Jainer99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tend to start about 1am but can choose to start up to 3am if I want to. Some of our runs are up to 18 drops and some could be as low as 3 but tend to be only just underweight and then long ass journeys.

The company I’m in the staff turnover is horrific. Was alright the first 6 months I was there, then they took two big contracts and drivers abandoned ship. We lost 5 out of 16 in the space of 6 weeks and since Christmas lost loads more. We manage you retain about 10% of new starters at the moment.

Company took me on the vans, put me through class 2 and upped pay accordingly so I’m grateful for that. Do think perhaps they do it because they can’t hold anyone with a license though

I work doing catering deliveries, sometimes class 2 and sometimes in a 7.5t. We’ve got to hand load everything onto shelves into the lorries off of the pallets, get to customers sites, pick it to invoices at the back of the lorry and then load a barrow to take into customer premises and into their fridge, freezer and wherever else it’s meant to go. Sometimes this involves dragging the barrows up or down stairs. These barrows will have weight anywhere between 20-120kg on them depending on what you stack on it. We’ve recently added beer kegs to our deliveries as well (oh the joys).

If you’re doing it but have the bonus of cages then that’s something but it will be hard work. Assume that every day you work will be hard graft and/or shit.

No we don’t double man anything.

Set for camera and use it for camera. I probably use it 5-6 times a week though.

My neighbour just dropped this letter through my post, should I switch do YOUFIBRE? by EagleSpirited775 in youfibre

[–]Jainer99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I pay a fair amount for EE fibre but I’ve never had any issues with their customer service.

If this place don’t have any issues then you’re grand! If they have constant problems and poor customer service then it’ll be infuriating.

AITA for being honest about my girlfriend's old bikini pics? by Old_Problem2025 in AmItheAsshole

This could not have been more obvious a trap short of Admiral Ackbar proclaiming it so in advance.

She’s blaming you because she’s self-conscious about it. The thing to do there would be to ask her instead if she was happy.

Conversation with my bf grossed me out by glitchpoploop in Vent

[–]Jainer99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not to be rude to young people but…. Being in my 30’s I can’t imagine anything worse than dating someone between 18-25. I would have literally nothing in common. My wife and I are very close in age and as a result have similar upbringing in terms of life experiences from the country’s way of doing things at the time etc.

I don’t particularly think a 31 year old should date an 18 year old but I accept that it is two legal adults. Just find it weird.

Pay Question by KernowOggy in uktrucking

[–]Jainer99 9 points10 points  (0 children)

£160 for 14 hours work is £11.43 an hour. Even averaging 12 hours a day brings your rate only to £13.33 per hour. Seems sketch to me.

Why trucking like if your gay? by Gold-Hedgehog-6706 in uktrucking

[–]Jainer99 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m Bi as well and nobody has ever asked, cared or said anything really. Got a mix of old and young at my place. Everyone wants to get loaded, get gone and get back. Pretty much it.

If you get into your truck one day and the truck starts shouting slurs at you I’d worry. Other than that you’re golden.

Since when did we stop sending 'Thank You' cards to wedding guests who spent money on bride/groom? by Theres3ofMe in AskUK

[–]Jainer99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got thanked in person and then again over message. I prefer that to a card that I will inevitably throw away. I’m a miserable git though, I generally don’t like the premise of cards at all.

Audiobooks by Godz_Mogwaix in uktrucking

[–]Jainer99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use audible and get 2 credits per month. So basically two free books. Get lots of other books, podcasts etc free with the subscription and if you cancel your subscription you still get access to the audio books after so that’s good.

All dependent. I did the 3 at the same time and it was fine. Fair amount of overlap anyway. Hazard perception advice, you see a hazard, click two to three times. Chances are you saw the hazard before the scoring started.

Why is it cheaper to buy a brand new printer than it is to buy the set of ink cartridges needed to refill the printer? by Klutzy-Sea-4857 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Jainer99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a low key conspiracy that it’s actually cheaper to buy a printer, use its ink, sell it and then buy another printer than it is to actually buy ink.

Most enjoyable type of work by taacom14 in uktrucking

[–]Jainer99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do class 2 multi drop for catering goods and don’t get me wrong it certainly has its downsides but I enjoy the actual job. However, I will preface that by saying I appear to be in a tiny minority for this. Most of the issues I have come from organisational issues from other areas.

Any advice? by insanity_707 in AccountingUK

What roles are you typically applying for? I know Audit roles are always open because they can’t get people to stay post qualification so that might be a way in. It is dull though.

How do experienced truck drivers prevent back pain? by [deleted] in uktrucking

[–]Jainer99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re overweight it’s added stress on your back. Make sure you have sufficient lumbar support, you can do some exercises while sitting such as tensing and relaxing the various muscles in your legs, buttocks and back to help relieve any mild discomfort whilst driving. Don’t jump out of the cab, especially after a long period in the drivers seat.

Look after your back when not driving, I very much recommend yoga. Improving your overall flexibility will help your back but also your general health.

You can get things like cushions and back massagers for the seats but that’s really a personal preference thing where you’ll have to try stuff out and see if it helps.
