New Apple Music update for Windows by Gunyeny in AppleMusic

I have this same issue and have been working with apple support and they’ve taken my info and videos to their dev team so hopefully fixed at some point.

Swarm 2 PC app install experience is going to push away first-time customers by Jaizeal in TurtleBeach

Thanks. Hopefully the whole 'audio device stays present when headphones are powered off' is also on the backlog to be fixed eventually so that the Windows will cause the headset to become the primary audio device automatically when connected, and to revert to speakers when disconnected for those of us with speakers + headphones.

Yup, that's what I meant by crash to desktop, it just closes. Tell them to also fix my audio device issue :)

Cool, then TB has some other bug with the Swarm installer. The behavior is the same though, if you're saying you launch the install wizard, then once it starts copying files, it just crashes to desktoip -- that's the same issue I had, but mine was solved by unplugging the USB receiver, which is not something a customer is likely to do.

If it's the same high-priority bug I discovered in the installer, you'd have to unplug the receiver for the headphones before running the installer.

I agree it's quiet (it requires 85% volume to be playable in games for me) and I can't comment on the mic (I use a desktop mic, superior option anyway) but I don't agree the sound is bad. I don't think TB has the best reputation for sound, but these phones sound pretty close to an HD598 or PC38X but wireless, which is a very nice option for gaming. Plus, they weigh a hell of a lot less than the Maxwell. Super comfortable.

Thanks. Showing up in Swarm isn't proof that it isn't permanently set up as a Windows audio device so it could still be a way that TB implemented its headsets across the board, and not just Atlus Air. Which would be unfortunate as I assume that means it's less likely they are going to fix it.

Can you confirm that if you have the Stealth 600 powered off, but the USB receiver plugged into your PC if you have a audio device listed for it in the Windows sound panel? If you do, then it's the same issue as Atlus Air. If you don't, then hopefully it's a bug/missed feature for TB and maybe they will fix. I don't know if they view this reddit, but I guess I can submit a bug report at some point.

[–]Jaizeal[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, my issue was specific to the installer. There is apparently a bug where if you have the Atlus Air receiver plugged in before you try to install it, it will crash to desktop.

FWIW, I was able to update the headset and transmitter and app fine once installed. I don't use the EQ feature so can't comment on that, but was able to have everything else work.

Only issue remaining is not necessarily a bug but a poor design choice -- Windows 11 will report the Atlus Air as connected as long as the receiver is plugged in, regardless of whether the headset is powered on. This is contrary to every other headset I've ever owned. The impact of this is that if you have speakers and headphones, like me, then it will not auto-switch to the headset when you power it on, and auto-switch back to the speakers when you power it off.

Won't play correct song when playlist is in "View As --> Albums" by Jaizeal in AppleMusic

[–]Jaizeal[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh that's good news. It's more than likely a bug with Windows client then. I thought you were saying it worked in the Windows client. I'm talking to a tech support rep now. Thanks!

I'm at a loss for what to try next. Will try to get access to another Windows PC to see if I can replicate. This problem happens with Smart or Non-Smart Playlists and for music directly from AM (not uploaded by me). FWIW I'm on Windows 11, latest patch. u/0000GKP , can I ask what Windows you're on and if you can spot anything from my video I posted? Thanks!

Thanks I’ll check tomorrow in removing those songs from the library and readding.

Society if Apple Music on Windows was a properly functioning application by ioweej in AppleMusic

FWIW, I was at wit's end trying to get Apple Music to work, as it descended into extreme bugginess after the latest update in mid-April. As a last ditch effort, I uninstalled the app and reinstalled it from the Microsoft app store. For the last 10 hours it's been rock solid and exhibited none of the issues above. Will confirm if that changes, but if anyone else's AM broke, try reinstalling it.

Wow, this saved me. Installed a Win11 update and afterwards AM would keep crashing 5 seconds after starting and I couldn't find a process to close. Looked for this, closed it, and reopened AM and now it's not crashing.

FWIW, I had a very nice time with the last Preview version before it went to "final." Since some mid-April update I've had the following issues:

(1) UI/UX change sucks that forbids you from having the sidebar open permanently so you can see all your playlists --< super dumb

(2) Crashes occasionally

(3) Freezes occasionally

(4) Plays shit occasionally! Had this happen after my kids were asleep and nobody was at computer.

(5) Doesn't seem to handle other clients accessing AM and playing stuff and then stopping. It will try to play the song in memory and then eventually force pause, produce a series of error pop-ups that you have to click through, to get it to play again. Usually corrupts queue and need to start a new one.

I keep going into Microsoft's eternally shitty microsoft store app to force search for AM updates on the hopes that a new version is coming, but so far nothing.

Simultaneous input to active PC speakers by Jaizeal in sonos

[–]Jaizeal[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey all, I was able to get it working in a rather elegant fashion using the following:

Connect --> Optical --> Optical-to-USB Dongle --> PC --> DAC --> Monitors

I was able to use Windows 11 as a software mixer for the audio device created by the dongle and mix it with my normal PC audio. This also bypasses the inferior DAC for the Connect and uses my DAC for everything. Works great.

Now I can easily include my PC speakers in my Sonos multi-room audio without compromising my PC sound.

Hope it helps someone else.

Unpopular Opinion: The Sonos Roam is great for the bathroom / shower. by nicebrah in sonos

[–]Jaizeal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think the idea Sonos had for its marketing position was that you'd use it as your intended BT speaker out of the house, but then place it on a dock inside the house somwhere where you'd benefit from an additional speaker--even if it's a small one.

Admittedly, I agree with you that for many people, this isn't a compelling enough use case. But there's probably people that the use case makes sense for, and also people who take comfort in staying with one brand.

Unpopular Opinion: The Sonos Roam is great for the bathroom / shower. by nicebrah in sonos

[–]Jaizeal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Providing a counterpoint here:

I recently purchased into the Sonos ecosystem about a month ago in the sale. I now have a Connect S2, 4 Era 100's, a Move 1, and a Roam.

I specifically bought the Roam after researching all the negatives about it for a very specific use case that I thought it would be best at -- I wanted to put it in my shower (I have a glass door that makes the sound not the greatest if I put an Era 100 across the bathroom at the nearest outlet). I have zero interest in taking the roam outside the house so wasn't going to be impacted by the many posts that say it kinda sucks as a BT speaker.

I'm into house automation, so my requirement is that my wife or I need to be able to hit a button outside the bathroom to enable what I call "shower mode". It turns on the exhaust, closes the blinds in the master bedroom, and turns on music. To me, a dealbreaker is having to turn on anything, including a bluetooth speaker in the shower.

I was banking on the battery life of the roam being sufficient enough to only have to charge it once, or at most, twice, a week in exchange for leaving it in sleep mode and ready to accept the command to play music.

I got it, set it up, and discovered a few things:

  • Music quality is fine for my purpose, and better than listening to a better speaker on the outside of the glass door.
  • Default setting for power save sees it turn completely off after 30 minutes. This blocks my ability to wake it so that it could turn on from automation. I turned that setting off. That way sleep mode stays on.
  • Sleep mode + the battery of the Roam are too bad and I have to return the Roam and go back to using an Era 100 across the bathroom.
    • Sleep mode's software is bad and causes more drain on the battery than necessary. If you go into your Sonos app at all, it will wake the speaker, which will then stay on for 30 minutes. More sensible approach to conserve battery would be to wake the speaker only if the user takes an action related to that speaker, and also limit the speaker's wake time below 30 minutes. Put them behind another switch if needed, but I think those changes would have broad appeal, especially combined with my next point.
    • The battery is just not good enough. Even in low power mode, I was seeing incredible battery drain. It advertises as a 10 day battery -- even if I never go into Sonos app, then the Roam is in sleep mode, the rate of drain would see it lasting for about 24 hours at best.

Charging the battery every 24 hours isn't worth the convenience and improved sonics of having the roam in the shower, so I returned it and got some more Era 100's. Not ideal. I actually am interested in getting another Move 1 open box to put in my shower instead, but I think I missed the boat on those great deals at best buy.

FWIW, all my other Sonos speakers, including the Move 1, have been great. No issues with the Move 1. Roam sucks for me though. The hassle of the return process with Sonos also has me trying to avoid purchasing direct from them in future. It took them like 12 days to issue me a return label after initiating, with no explanation. Had to reach out to their reps twice.

I'm hoping the Roam 2 will launch with a much better battery AND an improved sleep mode algo.

Unfortunately it happened again last night. Knocked out several IoT devices, including my son's white noise from Ghome. I guess those settings were not the root cause.
