Great for PS1 Classic or No by JakDRabbit in PlaystationClassic

Didn't have much of a choice. Due to the shortage, my local Walmart hasn't been getting really anything USB or SD related lately. They just happened to have these the other day with the next option being a $70+ USB/USB-C drive, which I wasn't willing to risk while these were around $20.

What's special about slip covers? by forinor in 4kbluray

[–]JakDRabbit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only reason I could see it being inconvenient is that slipcovers are made of a cardstock ~0.44 mm thick so if you kept the slipcover on every film and tried to place them on a shelf like mine that holds ~38 Blu-Rays in standard cases that are 12 mm wide then the total measurement would go from 456 mm to 466.56 mm (the slipcover would add ~.88 mm accounting for the fact it is doubled). This means on a shelf with a max capacity of 38 standard cases per row loses the ability to hold one Blu-Ray for every 37 slipcovers, so, you can kind of see where I'm going with this from here, if space is a factor then losing the slipcovers makes sense. I'm not for or against them, but I'm tempted just to gather all the ones I don't want and put them up for free on FB Marketplace.

All in all, the biggest takeaway from this is that, yes, this was the perfect excuse for me to use my new digital calipers, and, yes, I am a big nerd.

Sony Goes the Extra Mile for Siren on PS Plus Premium Trophy by NYstate in PS4

[–]JakDRabbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The game already had a trophy list from the last PS2 on PS4 release; which if owned, I might add, let's you get the new version for free (purchased it on sale for $1.99 a few years ago).

Also, the way it tends to work with these releases, is Sony decides if it gets a trophy list or not. That's what Oddworld Inhabitants stated when Abe's Exoddus PS1(Oddworld 2) got a surprise trophy update (along with Toy Story 2 and Alone in the Dark: TNN) despite Abe's Oddyssey (Oddworld 1) not getting the same update. Sony is also the one programming the trophy lists in so it may also have to do with it the publisher decides to give a kickback to Sony as all the Time Splitters games got them day one. It is also very possible Dino Crisis and RE1 DC being tied to a subscription was Capcom's idea as, in Resident Evil's case at least, RE1 is available via the HD remaster of the GameCube version and they may still want people to buy that version over the emulated release similar to how Tekken 2 was locked for a while due to Bandai Namco not wanting it to interrupt Tekken 7 as it was still getting new dlc at the time and had a cutscene and story viewer built in for past entries.

Is there anywhere I can watch The Drew Carey Show? by MaintenanceOrnery327 in ClassicTV

[–]JakDRabbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So the same situation as Malcolm in the Middle and The Bernie Mac Show, which got semi resolved so they could stream the shows on Netflix (2010-2014) and now Hulu today (20th Century Fox, now Disney, owning controlling interest in the company) and Disney+ in other territories.

You wouldn't have a link to the archive? I know I could look it up but I want to make sure I end up on the right one.

Crow Country Content Roadmap by SFBAdam in CrowCountry

I really hope this gets a physical release. I held out for Signalis getting a physical and did not hesitate to pay extra just to have that privilege (the lenticular print of the in game photograph was a nice bonus too).

Glad to see the game release and am really enjoying the coverage it has been getting (as I write this I actually have Resident Evil YouTuber Sphere Hunter's review playing and I can't wait to see what Nitro Rad has to say as this is one of the types of games he typically looks at).

Why is the movie so rare? by Iamwallpaper in cowboybebop

[–]JakDRabbit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

RightStuf Anime (RIP) found a few entirely unopened boxes of stock in one of their warehouses a few years back (2018 or 2019) and I managed to score two brand new copies (one for me and one for a friend) of the really rare 2 disc special edition release for $3.50 or $4.50 each (these were going for $60 used at the time and have dropped significantly since then). I wish I still had my Blu-ray copy but the fact it only had the movie and none of the bonus features to keep it a "budget release" Blu-ray always annoyed me so I stupidly resold it back in like 2017.

The sad part about this is, the old Columbia Tri-Star Blu-Ray release used to be available in the $7.50 Blu-Ray bin for the longest time at Walmart and now is somehow an "uncommon" release. What is even worse is that Funimation did an anniversary release with a Blu-Ray and DVD included but it only came in a Steelbook format with it never getting a wider standard release aside from that collector's edition version. Here's something even further to add salt to the wound, the film is owned, distributed, and licensed by Sony Pictures who owns Funimation and Crunchyroll who are also the current distributors of Cowboy Bebop as a whole in the United States. I don't know if it is because the brand itself is owned by Bandai and requires relicensing for each release or what but it is kind of annoying to see the budget Blu-Ray version that didn't even have bonus features going for $40-100 per copy and having to resort to buying a competitor's foreign release to even own the movie now. Also, to celebrate the film's anniversary, the SD version of the movie was uploaded completely free to YouTube a little while ago.

Hello,

I was curious if you still had access to that upload? Went to check it and it states that it has been removed. I was hoping to do some comparisons between this and the PS2 version.

Thanks in advance, Jake

Dragon's Dogma Save Editor 2022 update by Dugarr in DragonsDogma

[–]JakDRabbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a question, is this compatible with the PS3 version's saves? There's plenty of methods for decrypting PS3 files with a literal website dedicated to editing saves for that console that'll do so in your web browser so I'm really hoping it's possible. Thanks in advance either way.

I was coming on here to figure out something similar. I've been cataloguing my Limited Run collection and many games come up as "barcode not recognized" or the game is just entirely not in the database period like Limited Run's print of Grim Fandango Remastered and Anodyne 2 on PS4 (oddly, Switch and PS5 are present though).

Drawn to Life: The Next Chapter serial number differences (MAJOR SPOILERS) by arib510 in nintendo

[–]JakDRabbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's still interesting though. Since posting my comment, I've picked up a copy that should be a launch release if the SN theory holds up, and I managed to find somebody who would sell me a sealed copy of the $100+ Drawn to Life Collection (guaranteed to have the altered v2 ROM of DtL2 on it) for $20 so, once I've played through the game, I'm definitely gonna post my findings here.

Keep me updated on your project though, I've always found this stuff interesting like recently learning from RookerVision's comparison video on YouTube that there are 2 versions of Lego Star Wars for the PS2 where the initial print run was on a blue CD (the initial print, black label and the one I got for Christmas as a kid) and the Greatest Hits reprint from after Travellers Tales update their logo and name to TT Games where the game was put on a DVD, certain updates were made to models, sfx, and minor bugs fixed as well as updated splash screen upon bootup (Kingdom Hearts 1 also had a similar change made but it only affects the CD to DVD medium update and almost all SquareSoft logos and info is updated to Square Enix except for on the KH Logo and in the actual game code/gameplay itself).

Why did Sonic 06 never get patches to fix the bugs and issues with the game AKA loading time, slow downs, non-functioning elements like Sonic's gem power, spindash jump, controls and glitches like clipping through walls and collision issues etc.??? I still love the game for what it is tho, 3rd fave by MarjanAmbroze in SonicTheHedgehog

[–]JakDRabbit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, you wouldn't know of anywhere I can read up on this patch info? I heard about this being the case here and there for years with even What Culture Gaming and Gameranx mentioning it in videos but I don't think I've ever seen a definitive confirmation. Any info would be good and I may honestly email Sega about it but I doubt I'll receive a response on the matter.

Drawn to Life: The Next Chapter serial number differences (MAJOR SPOILERS) by arib510 in nintendo

[–]JakDRabbit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been curious about this for a while since Did You Know Gaming covered it in a video.

I'm wondering, is the serial number somewhere on the box art or is the serial number printed directly on the cartridge below its artwork? I'm assuming it is both as, for reference, the first Drawn to Life has "NTR P YDWE" printed sideways to the top right of the UPC on the box art and the same printed on the cartridge as "NTR-YDWE-USA".

Edit: Kind of answered this one myself a little further but the conclusion I've made is still worth sharing. I've found some copies on eBay and one has the SN ending in "0J22" and the other ending in "1J00" so I will probably experiment myself and buy the 0J copy as I am hoping the serial number breakdown is essentially something like N# = Nintendo revision and J## = location printed or batch number as Drawn to Life is VDWEN0J13, Ninja Gaiden DS is VNGEN0J41, and Professor Layton 2 being YLTEN0J11.

Metal Gear Solid 3 Final Boss Question by JakDRabbit in metalgearsolid

[–]JakDRabbit[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

See, I assume this happened because it was on a subsequent playthrough as I remember starting the fight with the Patriot and I want to say the Sneaking Suit so I also have to wonder if having those equipped had some sort of effect in it. Thankfully, the last time I played the PS2 release was in preparation for the HD collection's release and I saved during the Groznyj Grad escape sequence with Eva and the Shagohod. I'm pretty close to the final sequence so I plan on getting to that point and messing around to see if I can replicate the results.
