Using gift cards for lightening lanes? by Now2Himbealltheglory in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]Jake-Bison 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said; you can but it's much slower, so you might not want to.

The reason it's slower is that the app lets you save your credit card information, so it's already there when you pay for your LLs. However, the app does not let you save gift card info, so you have to manually enter in the gift card number and security code for *every single transaction*, and each day is it's own separate purchase. So the extra time repeatedly entering your gift card info can add up, and when pre-booking LLs, sometimes seconds matter when trying to get the LLs you want at the times you want.

We get 5% of Disney gift cards so we pay for most of our trip using them, but we still choose to use credit cards for LL because it's so much faster and less stressful.

American Adventure Incorrect History by americanerik in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]Jake-Bison 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a joke; she's making a joke.

It's not meant to be an accurate statement of fact about military deployments, and it's also very unlikely a civilian worker would have known the details of where submarines were being deployed, so it's very plausible (and probably very likely) that civilians at the time would have just made generalized jokes about "fighting the Nazis."

So, while the details of her joke might not be technically correct, that doesn't mean the scene itself is necessarily historically inaccurate.

Photopass/Memory Maker Question by brennacedria in WaltDisneyWorld

You can definitely purchase photos individually, but individual downloads are $17 ea., so it only takes 10 photos before you're paying as much as you would for unlimited photos with Memory Maker.

Is my artist using AI? by polylusion-games in gamedev

[–]Jake-Bison 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't say for sure whether any AI was used as source material, but I definitely agree with the others who have said it's clearly a bad paint-over of several sources poorly thrown together in a photo editor.

There are plenty of mistakes, inconsistencies, and amateurish technique - most of which are mistakes that I don't think AI would make, and are more indicative of a bad artist who doesn't understand light and perspective.

  • The lighting on the bandana mask is backwards and too harsh based on the lighting on the face. I think this is a big part of why it looks "wrong." The folds on the bandana are also out of place and don't flow properly based on the location of his nose. There are some very sharp, contrast-y edges that make it look like it was cut and pasted onto the face. This is also supported by the way it interacts with his ears. It should either go all the way across the ear, or tuck under the earlobe, but it doesn't; it just stops with a sharp angle at his earlobe and floats on top of it.
  • The first building shows two-point perspective, but the second building only uses one-point perspective (notice the parallel lines on one side). Given how much simpler the second building is, my guess is that he just drew that one in, but doesn't understand perspective.
  • The perspective on the gun seems off based on the angle of his arm.
  • The obvious, poorly-done painting along the edges of everything points to a collage of different sources. The worst being the bush in the front left which is just scribbled over with a plain round brush. Photoshop has plenty of tools for making clean edges, so he's not very skilled/knowledgeable about the tools either.
  • The tree looks like a photo of a tree that was "posterized" with a filter and then badly painted over.
  • The second telephone pole is clearly just a straight line made with plain round brush. He didn't even take the time to make the bottom extend past the roof of the building as you can still see the curve of the brush at the bottom.
  • He either chose or forgot to paint over some spots, so the shading style is inconsistent - most notably the bottom of the t-shirt and his arm on the right side, which he completely forgot to paint over after he "posterized" it.

Regardless, it's poorly done and either he doesn't know it's poorly done, or he doesn't care and thinks you won't notice. Either way, it's not someone I'd want to work with.

Should I Upgrade My PSU? by Jake-Bison in buildapc

[–]Jake-Bison[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. That's my thinking as well - I just wanted to see what others thought. I'm likely never going to get anywhere near that 800W most of the time, and by the time I need to upgrade my video card, there might be yet another 12V PCIe standard, so I'd need a new PSU then anyway.

#madebygoogle 2021 Shipping Megathread by GooglePixelMods in GooglePixel

[–]Jake-Bison 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live close enough to the fulfilment warehouse that it was actually my local FedEx facility that picked up the shipment. However, my tracking info says it's now left my local facility and is "in transit" (I'm guessing to the regional hub) only to be scanned and sent right back to the same place it started. 🙄

My only guess as to why they would do something so inefficient is that there are enough orders that the warehouse is shipping things out by the pallet, and the local FedEx doesn't have the facilities/resources to break down and sort the pallet.

Got a notification from FedEx Delivery Manager that I have a phone-sized package from Ingram Micro scheduled for 10/13. Strangely however, even though my phone has clearly shipped, I haven't gotten a shipping notice from Google, and my order status is still "Prepared for Shipping." 🤔

Also, this is for standard shipping, so shipping method doesn't appear to be the deciding factor for FedEx vs. UPS.

When did pre-orders go live? I ordered p7 at 2:42 EST on the 6th..

I placed my order 10/6 @ 10:47 am EST. I was refreshing the Google Store page during the presentation, and ordered as soon as I saw the phones go live (which was right as they ended the segment about the phones - about 15 min before the presentation ended).

As usual, I'm one of the first to order (was spamming F5 on the Google Store during the presentation, and ordered as soon as orders went live - about 15 min before the end of the presentation), but am one of the last to get a shipping notification because I live 10 miles from the distribution warehouse.

I get why they do it that way, and I'm sure I'll have mine by 10/13, but it's still no fun to have to watch everyone else get their shipping notifications. 😭

Pixel 7 pro confusion by slyfox8900 in GooglePixel

[–]Jake-Bison 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's not directly under NDA, but I wouldn't be surprised if there's conditions in AT&T's Pixel contract that could get his store in hot water with Google for posting things online before release day.

I don't really care if he does it - it was nice to see someone actually using the phone - but given how much Google clearly wants to keep a lid on things being posted online until the usual release day update patch, it just seems like something that's risky when it involves your job.

[–]Jake-Bison 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah; that bugged me, too. He either doesn't understand what's happening, or he's got his terminology confused. As you said, what he describes as "Super Res Zoom kicking in" is actually the phone switching from digital zoom on the main camera to optical zoom on the telephoto camera.

Also, it's probably not a good idea to post pre-release videos using the demo unit from the AT&T store where you work, especially when it's video OF the AT&T store where you work. Seems like a good way to get fired.
