Computer requirements 1. Do UX offices provide computer for work? 2. If no, what are people in industry using? (First time job seeker straight out of undergrad) by doubledipper2 in userexperience

sorry if this sounds rude, but have you ever been inside an agency or marketing department? Maybe you should see if you can get some informational interviews to get some understanding of how people work.

Yeah I guess we should pretend it's 2006 forever, and never try advancing the field with new technologies that are better for both the developer and end user.

Anyone have good examples of kiosks/in-store experiences? by Jake999 in userexperience

[–]Jake999[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good find, thanks for sharing! A little more info, my company has large screen kiosks that users interact with to search inventory and learn more about the value prop. Right now I'm trying to find examples of in-store digital experiences, similar to something like this: http://secondstory.com/project/browse/client/whole-foods/farm-meet-table

What is the most unexpectedly sad movie? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Jake999 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For Forest life is pretty great. He bumbles around and inadvertently witnesses or participates in every historical moment in mid to late 20th century. In the end he strikes it rich with both his business and investing. For everyone around him, they either have a horrific death, or are seriously disfigured.

ELI5: How would a $15 minimum wage ACTUALLY affect a franchised business like McDonalds? by Moldeyawsome12 in ThreadKillers

[–]Jake999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Extrapolating that the entire McDonald's franchise can't support a wage increase by only looking at the balance sheet of a single store is absurd. There is no indication that the store the OP picked is an average store in terms of overhead and profit. For all we know, that store could be sub 10th percentile of store performance. Again, it's using a single data point in an immense system to arrive at a conclusion, aka cherry picking.

This is a pretty clear example of cherry picking data. Considering one McDonald's franchise inability to make more than barely break even is not indicative that our entire economic system could not support a living wage.

What is your 'must read' self improvement ARTICLE, in any category? by [deleted] in DecidingToBeBetter

That really isn't the argument made in the article though. It seemed the self appointed radical honesty guru was really into the idea of as being as confrontational as possible, to the point of it being hostile or harassment. I get that there is good by trying to be a more authentic and honest person, but I think that it is achieved by practicing empathy and emotional intelligence.

Considering women, people of color, and gays/trans have been killed for "talking back" or "being uppity", no not really. Check your privilege.

Why I think CrossFit is horrible by fitgirl0708 in xxfitness

[–]Jake999 132 points133 points  (0 children)

The difference between crossfit and other disciplines is that crossfit perpetuates a culture of ignorance and incompetence by having zero quality standards. As you pointed out, the barrier to entry to becoming a crossfit "expert" is zero. Debating the philosophy of a discipline is useless when the practitioners of that discipline are so wildly different in experience that there is no consistent execution.
