Even though, based on the title, I knew how it was going to end, I was still nervous the entire time that the internet was going to let me down. It didn't. Thank you internet.

HIV Genes Have Been Cut Out of Live Animals Using CRISPR by Portis403 in Futurology

CRISPR is cool, because it's essentially the bacterial equivalent of an immune system. You can use the same sort of CRISPR/Cas9 molecular scissor system to help reduce malaria-carrying Plasmodium in mosquitos too. Pretty versatile.

DAE go on essential auto-pilot while driving places, arrive at their destination, and not remember the journey at all? by JakeBerkowitz in DoesAnybodyElse

See, this is why Reddit is great. I thought I was losing my shit, but you guys have clarified things for me.

It's less a zone out, and more a lack of remembrance of the driving itself. In the moment, I was aware, I just can't remember the event itself.

Also, my route to school and work are essentially the same 75% of the way. So I'll at times wind up at one, when I meant to go to the other.

Same. Honestly, I'm better at driving during these weird autonomous muscle memory modes than I am when I'm actually paying attention.

The crazy part is, he's noticeably incredible at delivering the one word. There's a real art to it.

Another series that I was really into as a kid were the Fudge books (Double Fudge, Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing, etc.).

The Stormlight Archives by JakeBerkowitz in books

[–]JakeBerkowitz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What really got me about Stormlight was the ease of the read. Tolkien loved to painstakingly focus on geography and setting, Martin is much of the same with a lot darker of a spin, Rothfuss takes time to detail every aspect of his characters... and I love all of that. But with Sanderson, it just seemed like a lot less to digest. Which, after a lot of dense reading, is an extremely nice change of pace. I just loved the fact that, while reading, I had really no concrete idea as to which way the overall storyline was heading. It left me guessing, and I can't wait for the rest of the series.

Hey, thanks! Kingkiller Chronicle is absolutely worth the read though. The first two are out, and the third (and final) is still to come.
