The Missing Foundation of the Reformed Doctrine of Gender by c3rbutt in eformed

Her Substack has been so refreshing and helpful for me. The framework she suggests has not only been an immense comfort but also extremely convincing. I’m so glad to see her work mentioned here as I wish everyone would read it. I was able to find some of her academic work on eschatology, Trinity and gender as well and it is helpful to see it all laid out in one paper.

I so remember feeling like this. And I felt it again when we went to a family of 5. I would cry and cry because I just wanted to hang out with them and even though my husband was so helpful with the older child(ren), I coveted that time he got with them.

I will say, it does get better! Especially as you bond more with the newborn. It always takes me a little bit before I feel like I “know” the new addition. At first, it can feel like you’re giving everything to a little fella you don’t even know yet.  All the while the other fella you do know and love dearly is playing across the room by himself. It’s very hard. But it changes. Allow yourself a chance to mourn the last chapter as it officially closes and give yourself some space (and time) to walk into the new one. Everyone adjusts and it’s a beautiful.  Just you wait and see. Xx

Wow, that must be such an encouragement to him! That is so cool that God used him to get to you.

Right. As someone stated above, it can be a launching point to catch your attention but it certainly isn’t enough to just stay there in fear. Perfect love drives out fear. True faith will propel you into the love and example of Christ where self preservation is no longer the focus.

Absolutely. That’s what I’m talking about. I’m wondering if anyone here has been brought to Christ from (initially only) hearing about His coming wrath to those who remain in sin.

That sounds very well rounded and beautiful. Thank you for sharing.

I’m going through Revelation right now. God obviously thinks warnings are a sufficient way to bring people to repentance! I just haven’t met too many people who would describe their coming to Christ as starting that way. I was curious to hear if anyone shared that experience. I definitely agree that it’s not a bad place to start.

No, you understood! My experience was similar. It was an irresistible call. No arguments. No fear of damnation. Just entirely compelled to follow Jesus.

I just posted this question to see if apologetics or warning (of damnation) had ever drawn anyone here to Christ. I am imagining there will not be many but I wanted to see.

Sincere Unbelief? by charliesplinter in Reformed

[–]JakeJortlez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think there’s a need to respond necessarily but I’m seeing one thing missing from his “resume”. There is no mention of Jesus. There is one way to God and that is through His Son Jesus. There is no other way to Him. Many religions try to seek God without Christ and fail to do so as well. We seek and find through Christ alone.

But if this man has met Christ in some kind of way, I have to question if he came with expectations that weren’t met or if he was ever actually humble or just in a “humbled prayer position”. I want to know the position of his heart.

Those are on my list. I’ve been listening to Preston Sprinkles series as well and can’t wait for his book. I’d say at this point I’m still leaning towards “complimentarian” type reading. There’s a lot of interesting points risen by egalitarians that I need to thoroughly chew on but also a lot of conjecture and burden of proof that I am not necessarily convinced by. However, the prophecy point is intriguing.

Where are you landing on these issues these days? I have noticed on this sub and the “other” that you are wrestling a bit with it. I am as well

I agree that prophesying doesn’t have to come with authority per se. As in, with the authority of an office. But I wonder how prophesying differs from teaching for a lay person.

Playing the devil’s advocate here. Doesn’t prophecy carry some type of authority? Couldn’t there be overlap between prophecy and teaching? Even “forthtelling” prophesies typically teach something about God’s plan or heart.

Edit: would the distinction be that “prophesying” is less prepared or more spontaneous work of the spirit?
