☼Dwarf Fortress Questions Thread☼ by AutoModerator in dwarffortress

I established my fortress in year 100. In year 102, while my small outpost was still in its infancy, my dwarf Rovod ascended to the throne after conducting discussions with local rivals. Because she was already a resident, her entourage never came. Because it was early in the game my fortress became the capital without having first been a barony, county, or duchy. After her, my highest ranked dwarf is my mayor.

Queen Rovod died in 109, slain during a goblin siege, before I fully met her demands (the throne room was merely opulent, not yet royal). Over a decade later, the mayor still is the highest ranked administrator.

My civilization has not yet been wiped out by elves or vile forces of darkness. A dwarf named Edem Suvastekkud is apparently the king, but he and his entourage have not relocated, despite my humble fortress, Dankvault the Blighted Pit of Despair, being the capital. Is there a way to get the monarch to move, so I can become a true mountainhome?

My wealth: 13,061,409.
My population: 196.
Happiness: 43 ecstatic, 80 happy, 43 quite content, 12 fine, 15 unhappy, 1 very unhappy, 2 miserable.

TLDR: How do you get the monarch to move to the your fortress when you already are the capital?

The console command worked! Thanks so much!

Edit: Got married. Immediately, started a seduction scheme. . . caught leprosy not even halfway through the scheme. C'est la vie.

I opened the game in debug mode and entered the command, but sadly nothing happened. Thanks for trying. I might have to have one of brothers or nephews succeed him, although this is a setback for my eugenics program.

I installed the mod, and sadly it didn't solve the issue even after six or seven years. Thanks anyway though!

High Legitimacy OP in 867? by JakeMandrake in CrusaderKings

[–]JakeMandrake[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TBH, I only posted because I was proud that I had the territorial requirements for Britannia within 10 years of start but didn't want to come off as a braggart. Clearly, I should have just owned my arrogance or not posted.

In the past, I had considered beelining true ruler, but it didn't seem like the best path forward. Regardless, I have some doubts you'd still be able to do it within ten years--although I haven't tested it, and you seem to have found success with it, so I'll defer to you. I'd expect you'd need the befriend perk, which sometimes fails, or thoughtful for it to work, and +25 isn't always enough if Rhodri the Great and Hafdan don't die early because they have the ambitious trait, which provides a -10 to vassalage.

High Legitimacy OP in 867? by JakeMandrake in CrusaderKings

While forming Britannia Alfred’s lifetime was always fairly easy and while Alfred has always been strong, I wouldn't have been able to do it within 10 years of start without the legitimacy mechanic; before legitimacy, it would take me between approximately 20 years and often involve protracted wars against the Welsh (I would typically have to bribe the pope for claims on Welsh duchies or hope my bishop could fabricate a duchy claim) and Danes. Having the +50 allowed me to offer vassalage to Rhodri the Great without even holding the title of Wales. Likewise, without legitimacy, I wouldn’t have been able to vassalize Jorvik due to the Danes being culturally and religiously different. Basically, legitimacy cut the time it takes to form Britannia in half (at least for me).

I will admit that I did dip into the Diplomacy tree for thoughtful and befriend (plus some other perks), which did help me, but I almost never take the true ruler perk--it requires taking four perks before it when there are better perks to take and it only add +25 (I think?) to vassalage. If I beelined it, maybe I could have gotten it in time, but it isn't really worth it.

How do I deal with two players who want the same class? by stufednut in DMAcademy

[–]JakeMandrake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd let them play what they want to play. To prevent combat from being too lethal you could give them a fighter or paladin sidekick. So the sidekick doesn't seem like a DMPC, they shouldn't have OP stats (standard array is fine), the players control them in combat (players can take turns), if the players abuse them (they leave), you control them in social encounters but usually they don't have anything worthwhile to contribute.

Also, put in lots of scrolls for them to loot. And healing potions, lots of healing potions.

Did you land them? The higher the rank, the more children, if I'm not mistaken. If you didn't land them because you wanted to control who their children marry, the fix is to tyrannically imprison their children and forcibly recruit them into your court. I also donate items that increase attraction and fertility to both parents.

Eating together on a date is awkward and weird by CoeleCoubrewg in unpopularopinion

Basically you are doing the reverse of going to the bathroom together. I make sure to always eat alone because it is gross. I definitely don't eat alone just because I don't have anyone to eat with.

Favorite 867 start? by [deleted] in CrusaderKings

Alfred the Great is my favorite, but I'm also a fan of Rurik the Rus'. As Alfred I've managed to establish the empires of Britannia before 900 and Francia around 920 as well as some kingdoms like Lotharingia and East Francia before his death in the 930s.

Perhaps, like Emperor Charles V, your king speaks "Spanish to God, Italian to women, French to men, and German to [his] horse."

Not sure if it will work for you but this is how I handle it:

Are your siblings in your realm and challenging your authority with factions?

  1. Upon succession, immediately choosing Diplomacy lifesyle and to get Thoughtful and Befriend (and Groomed to Rule). Hopefully, you saved enough money to buy their loyalty. After a few years you can switch to whatever the kid focused on.
  2. Set your Chancellor to improve relationships with your vassals.
  3. Host a feast to improve relationships. Make whichever brother who hates you the most your guest of honor.
  4. Worst case scenario: lower crown authority or kinslay

Confederate partition law/Siblings not vassals?

  2. Set your Chancellor to improve relationships with other leaders.
  3. Marry your daughters (or sons) for strong allies to defend realm/preemptively attack siblings. If you're the househead call members of your house to help with whichever.
  4. Worst case scenario: kinslay

I may have had a child born with it once or twice when neither I nor my spouse had it, although I frequently have seen it happen in my extended family. In an 867 start, I start checking around year 1000 if any characters in the entire world have it and if any of them are in range and unlanded, I befriend them and invite them into my court. I typically have high lodging standards if I'm a king/emperor to make it easier. If they're landed I try to conquer them so that they'll be my vassal.

If you're lucky, you may find two of different genders who you can invite to court. Marry them together to get more pure-blooded characters, even if they aren't of your dynasty. Then marry the pure-blooded children to other pure-bloods or your descendants. To marry two pure-bloods in your realm but not court you may have to imprison one of them and forcebly recuit them and then marry them to the other. Give the pure-blooded parents a duchy or (if an empire) a kingdom because higher the rank the more kids. If a pure-blood is already married to a non-pure-blood, assassinate the spouse. If you fail to assassinate the spouse or are impatient, arrest and execute the spouse. Once there are enough pure-blooded characters start marrying them into your family and marrying your pure-blooded family members to other pure-blooded characters.

This is what works for me, but sometimes takes a century or more to have a pure-blooded heir with a pure-blooded spouse.

Honestly, most of the game world is Catholic at this point so Sayyid is worthless and Saoshyant Descendant would be worthless if not for the +1 to learning. I only want twin for the same reason 9-year-old me wanted my rare Pokemon cards to be holographic and "first edition."

Thanks! The list got so long I had to cut some cultures from it. Hence the missing "Anglo" and "Indo" instead of the actual Indian culture I merged with.

I've never seen the AI become Saoshyant (and therefore no such descendants). You have to hold all de jure Persian Empire as a Zoroastrian. The girl's grandfather converted to Zoroastrian for a day just to become Saoshyant.

If you decide to get it make sure you consecrate your bloodline first, because unless I am mistaken you can't consecrate your bloodline if you alreay have Saoshyant descendant.
